Lawyers can give lot of benefit to the public and to the government in giving professional advice and also legal advice in legal issues. Without the guidance of a lawyer, it would be very difficult to deal with complex issues such as law of torts, disputes in contracts, conflicts in business or in any corporate matters. If we go by the guidance of a lawyer, we would be doing good to ourselves. But it is a question to understand as to where from lawyers came and what is the purpose of lawyers.


Under the English legal system, lawyers have to work differently and lawyers who work under American legal system have to function separately. In this manner, an attorney is legally authorized and empowered to act on behalf of another person and also a lawyer can give legal advice on a particular legal matter and for this purpose, a lawyer is specially trained. Lawyer and an attorney are the same professions but while using in daily language, we never say to give power to a lawyer but we prefer to say the power of attorney.

Therefore, in this manner, there are many occasions and instances of using the term lawyer and attorney differently and mostly Americans use the word lawyer and English people use the word Attorney. So, the usage of words is also different in different regions although both the words give the same meaning as legal profession. But to state whether there are any different between a lawyer and an attorney, an attorney is an agent who possesses right and authority to conduct business basing the written document called as power of attorney.

A document of power of attorney gives a complete authority to represent a person in court. But on the other side, an attorney also exercises all other functions of a lawyer who is in practice. The term attorney can also be used for a county, state and for federal prosecuting officers who possess authority and are permitted to prosecute the proceedings of a court. Lawyers acting as attorneys also have power to represent other persons and also to begin trials by presenting witnesses and evidences, participate in arguments of the court and to support their clients. Lawyers are also good advisors on the issues of business, corporate issues, social issues and any other issue that relate to the law. Licensed lawyers have complete authority to give guidance and support to their clients.


Many people approach lawyers and some appoint lawyers for complete guidance for their business and families. The profession of law is not easy but it involves lot of expertise and knowledge to guide clients who seek the advice of an attorney. Law gets updated from time to time and all the attorneys and lawyers have to keep a note of updated laws. This will help the attorneys to stay ahead in their profession and Internet has been an effective method to find updated amendments on laws and further clients can find suitable advice of attorneys very easily through Internet.
