2010 Stimulus check

October 31, 2009

The 2010 stimulus check is set to help over 90% of Americans, but how will this affect you? The changes operated after the implementation of the stimulus have shown themselves clearly in 2009 by way of the stimulus check a high percentage of citizens have received, but its continuation in 2010 will be a bit different. The way in which the stimulus will work consists in a decrease in federal taxes, which will manifest itself through increases in average Americans’ paychecks.

But how do you know you qualify for this generalized federal tax deduction that is part of the government’s stimulus package and how should you go about receiving what the government is offering you, like a 2010 stimulus check ? First of all, in order to qualify, you must be paying social security; this means you have to be employed (or self-employed), i.e. you must be working and paying taxes. You must also make sure that your income does not exceeded the amount of $95,000 per year, or, if you are married and wish to submit a joint stimulus consideration request, then the joint income of the two applicants mustn’t exceed $190,000 per year. You must also keep in mind that certain restrictions to the federal tax cut the stimulus will grant you apply if your annual intake exceeds $75,000 or if you and your spouse’s joint annual income exceeds $150,000.

The federal tax deduction comprised in the stimulus will put in (or rather, not take out of) your pocket the sum of $400 (or for a joint application a total of $800). This is money the government normally would have taken out of your salary that you are now allowed to keep. It’s the same amount you will receive in 2009, only divided along 12 months instead of 9. This, in case you meet all the requirements and benefit from the full tax deduction. The amount of the deduction will be smaller depending on where you stand on the annual income chart. You will not be receiving a check in the mail or a check from your employer to mark the stimulus tax cut, but rather, you will be receiving an extra few dollars every month on top of what you’ve been earning so far. Those with maximal benefits from the stimulus will cash an extra $33 every month for the duration of the 2010 stimulus check thanks to the stimulus plan. That means that if you are filing for the federal tax deduction with someone else, together you will receive $66 every month.

If you are working two jobs and qualify for the federal tax cut, you will probably need to be extra careful. As it turns out, you stand to get a tax deduction on both paychecks, which means that you that you have double benefits, which unfortunately isn’t possible. Even if you are working two jobs, you only qualify for one share of the stimulus plan, which means that if you receive the something extra on your paychecks from both jobs, you will either have to notify one of your employers instructing them to desist, or you will be required to return the extra money after the end of the fiscal year.

The tax deductions that accompany the stimulus plan are meant to make it easier to navigate through the economic crisis, for the hard working Americans who find themselves having difficulty keeping up with the ever changing economic climate. While it might not seem like much on a grand scale, the federal tax deduction comprised in the 2010 stimulus check can make things a lot easier for many of those who are struggling to make ends meet.

  1. All I have to say about htis stimulus is i have been unemployed for the past four months thanks to this economy and Im having to pay for it by not getting any stimulus?! That is the stupidest thing i have ever heard. By the way Toni you dont make any sense whatsoever. If you got injured on the job or you were retired, the money you are getting is coming from what you did when you worked and they take taxes out of it. That is where we are getting paid from. If you dont think the retired or disabled people need to get money from their own tax money and you think you do, then this is the exact reason this country is going down the toilet. If this country ever does straiten out (And that will be a long time from now) then we need to make it where there is no more electoral college so we can actually vote and have a say in things instead of the congress looking at the popular vote and doing “what they think is best for us”. If we can do that, then we could vote for someone better than Obama or Bush or McCain. What I think they should do with the government stimulus is not give everybody a check or a part of the money per pay period. I think they should use it to give people a better wage. And if you are unemployed then create more jobs with it. Back during the great depression they came up with a thing that gave a lot of people jobs like paving roads, building dams, making canals, ect. why cant they do that now? If they did that among a few other things, this country would be in way better shape than it is now. Lets hope Obama has something else other than what he has done so far going on to help us because this isnt cutting it.

  2. What about senior ? will they get a stimulus check in 2010 or they will be ignore like every other government politics in the past 40 years.

  3. Has anyone stopped to think where the goverment is getting the money to pay out the stimulus checks. It come out of the taxes we pay every day. So basically, we ourselves and in turn the goverment raises our taxes so they have the money to send to those that receive those Stimulus checks… I say Don’t Send Any Checks…. And Start spending the money they do have wisely.

  4. For those who want to attack SSI and other programs saying these people that get it don’t pay in so why should they get anything. Then why are we letting our government say we have to give healthcare to the illegals? The illegal’s don’t pay into anything, but we are suppose to give them healthcare that the rest of us get to pay the bill on. I see American’s still getting the wool pulled over their eye’s because we allow the government to point out smaller issues and then we fight amongst ourselves! We need to focus on the big picture like job growth! If there is no job growth then how the heck does anyone truly see our country coming out of this big mess? The only reason the stock market seems stable is because our President and congress started printing money that we have no backing to (not like there was much before this, but this is going to cause massive inflation). Even the analysts are screaming that you can’t trust the stock markets numbers because it is falsely being held up.
But yet I guess it’s like the saying goes ignorance is bliss. We need to stop worrying if we are or who is going to get another check and tell our President to pull his head out of his (you know what) and focus on the real issues not what would make him go down as a big shot. We need him to tell big business that enough is enough, he needs to STOP the out of control government spending (remember before he was elected he wanted a pay as we go policy and where the heck did that idea go). He’s the President and he has to stop thinking of his image to those who don’t prop up this country. We the tax payers prop up this country, but yet we are the ones getting the shaft and more so with Obama.

STOP FIGHTING WITH EACHOTHER AND COME TOGETHER SO WE CAN TELL THE GOVERNMENT TO FOCUS ON US AND JOBS BEFORE IT”S TO LATE!!!!!!

  5. I might be wrong, but did’nt people on disability, social security & such get a lump sum check? or did they also haev it taken out of their check like the rest of us? I agree with alot of you , It would do us alot better getting the check in one lump sum, We can’t split our bills up and pay only a little each month, so why should we only “see” a littile stimulus each month?

  6. What the Government does or doesn’t understand is that WE THE TAXPAYERS are the ones that stimulate the economy!!!! They where disappointed by the first stimulus package because most taxpayers spent it on bills (wow what a concept). If we are given more of a stimulus instead of letting the greedy politicians keep it we would be able to pay more bills off. If our bills are paid we are more likely to buy things we like and want and at the same time the banks wouldn’t have as much money out and as vulnerable! But sadly no we are going to let our president (this time democratic) bend us over while he gets a noble peace prize for what? Before we had trickle down economics with Bush W. With Obama we have uncontrolled poverty running up the ranks! For all those that claim Obama inherited Bushes deficit you need to wake up NOW. Obama voted for the first stimulus, voted for giving more money to our troops, voted for the tarp money, but he gets to blame Bush for the bill he knew he’d get stuck with if he became president. Best of all there was a democratic majority for the last two years of Bush’s presidency. He could only pass what the demarcates wanted to go into effect. But hey lets go along with fixing blame instead of fixing the problem that will save our country.
Yes Obama brought change, but we failed as a country to ask in-depth how. Instead most ran to vote for him since he promised this change and Bush was so bad supposedly and now he’s only a year in and everyone is losing their jobs, some people are working three jobs to make up for the one good job they lost just to try to pay the bills and hey now they are saying unemployment is going down. Did anyone think that that is because many of these people have run out of their unemployment benefits and know aren’t counted in the polls? The dem’s are losing ground and quick! But my question is, are the American people really going to send a message to Obama and let him know he needs to think of us and not the big businesses that are helping screw us, or is he going to be a yes man for them and smile as we lose our country to China and the others?

    WAKE UP AMERICA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  7. Thank you Steve! There are not a lot of people that realize that when you collect SSDI, your income can be less than half or 1/3rd of what you made in the position you held before you stopped working; and that benefits do not start as soon as you stop working, it can take up to 9 months or more to receive benefits that you have paid in while working for many years. The benefits you receive may be close to or below the poverty level of income. It is a difficult and sensetive subject regarding monetarial benefits, because no matter what there are always some that abuse the system.

  8. Toni thinks SOCIAL SECURITY & DISABILITY IS FREE MONEY for those that receive it, LOL, does not realize we earned that money for working like the working people are now. Where does he think the social security deduction from the paychecks go. HELLO !!

  9. 2010 Stimulus Check. on December 1, 2009 at 10:29 pm

I’m still mad that the government gave billions to industries that weren’t selling any product. Like cars.

If I had a bakery and I didn’t sell donughts, would the government bail me out? Of course not.

I think everyone should get a Simulus check for $50,000. That way people would have the money to buy the cars instead of giving money to a business that can’t make a sale. Do you know what 50 grand would do for everyone?

  10. I think those folks in D.C. should take a huge pay cut. See if they can live on what the average or less than average American makes? They make more than they are worth. People who save lives and work for the fire department, police, armed forces, etc., don’t make anywhere near the amount of these politicians! It is time to make changes in our laws governing how long these Public Servants can stay in office! Our fore-fathers never meant for these politicians to stay in for their entire life! The second place where money is wasted is in space research. I don’t mind us having satelites, but come on, a space station, whose paying for that!

  11. Come on people…a lot of you are talking out both sides of your mouth. You mention needing rescue and then talk about needing the whole thing in one check so you can make big purchases. Maybe, just maybe, you should take more control of your finances, quit trying to keep up with the Jones’s, cancel your cable television subscription, don’t go buy a new HD tv becuase that’s what everyone is doing and be a responsible adult. I am not and have never had extra cash or been ahead – but with planning and responsibility I always have enough. It’s nice to have extra, but a downturn in the economy should be an opportunity for you to look at what you want and what you NEED. Not a time to complain, look for handouts and expect someone else to do it for you.

  12. I agree with you Mamie only better yet join the federal or like here in Maine the city, county,or State Workers you get health insurance for you your spouse and children and if you retire well things change YEAH you lose the insurance for the kids(chances are they are grown up anyways) and spouse but at least you get insurance the rest of your life and we are not talking medicare type insurane hell no we are talking NO COPAY FULL INSURANCE THE REST OF YOUR LIFE onthe taxpayers pocket by the way 70% or better cant afford such a luxury insurance. If you ever hear of a man called Baldacci run like hell this farthead choesed force all members of the state to pay union dues even if they were not unionized because his main contributor is no other than the state workers union All I can say as a Mainer is ” It was such a shame the he got in a terrible accident yet walked away THE SHAME BEING HE WALKED AWAY IT WAS THE TAXPAYERS WORSE DAY AS HE SURVIVED AND WENT ON TO SCREW THE WORKING PEOPLE WHO DID NOT PAY HIM OFF WHAT A BUM !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  13. Well all I’ve got to say is that 13.00 a week did’nt help me cause now my hours were cut down to 4 days a week.So now I’m short a whole days pay…..Sure wish I worked on Wall Street…..

  14. It didn’t take long to pass the bill to give a HUGE lump sume to the “too big to fail banks”. But the little guy (who oh, by the way gets the bill for the banks) gets his so-called stimulus in a dribble. When the too-big-to-fails need $$$$$$$$ it’s done overnight, but we’re out here on mainstreet dying of thirst and the tap gives us one drip every two weeks. Either Washington can’t figure it out (is out of touch), or the special Interests Lobby won’t let them give Joe Mainstreet a decent tax-free lump sum which would jump start this thing. So first, let’s ship all the good jobs overseas, not regulate the financial instritutions causing the 2nd-great-depression, suck up all the home equity and 401ks and finally cause massive unemployment with no serious signs of recovery (much less at a living wage). Washington politicians are the terrorists…..and what about their perks, insurance and pensions. Get the pitchforks and lanterns…..its time to take back America.

Far as me i work wvery day and is living from check to check. So every little thing will help me until i can catch up with everything.

  16. Honestly, the stimulus package is a joke. Whoever thought of the new idea to ration the money is very greedy!!! We would not be this bad off if wages were suitable to live on! Give me a break, this is all just a big way of acting like the government cares…… When it’s actually all about them!!!!!!!!

  17. The people on Social Security(SS) have worked their entire lives and paid into the system thus they are entitled to recieve the same stimulus as anyone who is currently working and paying in to social security. As for the people who are on Social Security Disability(SSD) they too have worked and paid in. The people on Supplemental Security Income (SSI) are frequently very low income and unable to work yet should they be penalized? I don’t think so.
My husband works every day and we are still considered low income. The so called stimulus package has not done a whole lot for us. Oh boy and extra $13.00 per week. We are really going to stimulate the economy with that.
My son has Cerebral Palsy and draws a SSI check. This barely covers the cost of transporatation to and from his specialist. When they gave him a stimulus check last year the money went to cover his expenses not to stimulate the economy.
So either way the stimulus package is a joke. All that I can see coming of it is more debt for the federal government as well as state and local governments. In the end no-one comes out ahead.

  18. Exactly Toni!

  19. I understand that 400$ for every working american is a big amount, but on a human scale, it is nothing. 400$ on 12 months gives a little each month which is really not enough. A lump sum check would have acted as a great stimulus for the economy but also to help some really needy household. We need a check and not a tax cut. The people who have lost their job wont get any money from this. Which is a shame. some of them have paid income tax for many years and now they have nothing to spend.

  20. I want to know if every one will gat a check. People who are disable ?

  21. we get social security because we did work and we do pay our bills just like you do so get over it. when you in up like some of us either got hurt on a job or was in an accient then you will understand why.until then grow up.

  22. Toni get over it! How do you think some people get social security? They paid it in when they went to work everyday. Maybe you should think of others instead of yourself. Do you think you are entitlted for a rescue boat to pick you up?

  23. i guess those of us on social security will not get anything even though we worked all those years without out stimulus checks we are out of luck right? Thank you uncle Sam

  24. IF YOU GIVE US A LUMP SUM BIG ENOUGH TO DO SOMETHING SURELY THIS WOULD STIMULATE US AND WE WOULD DEFINATELY STIMULATE THE ECONOMY IN A BIG WAY YOU WONT KNOW IT TILL YOU TRY IT THAT’S ONE OF MY SUGGESTIONS TAKE IT AND RUN WITH IT. IT”S NOT A BAD GESTURE.

  25. If you are already recieving government aid; disability or social security, why would you think you’d be entitled to a rebate check along with those who go to work everyday, have lost wages due to cut hours or furlough days? Here in California, people are losing valuable income, have bills based on the set income and who need a life boat to rescue them.

Your’e already getting aid from the government.

This is NOT fair to those of us, who do qualify from working the previous year, but are now unemployed! I am at the end of collecting Unemployment, which means once I am cut off and no longer receive a check . . . I will not receive my earned stimulus money?!?!

ONE LUMP CHECKS should be issued at each year’s tax season!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Once again thanks to our lovely government ~ we are getting screwed!
You must be receiving a paycheck to get the money!

  27. what about those who are on social security or are disabled will they also recieve a check like in 2009

  28. This seriously sucks. We were counting on that especially now…a little here and there is not budgetable for us. I know the government is aware of this. Its a lot easier to walk around with a twenty and not want to break it for a pack of gum but if you have twenty in ones then you are almost certain to buy that same pack. It’s the same concept and pretty soon you wonder where it went, kinda like this “stimulus” idea. People will find that this is much more difficult especially if you wanted a large purchase. Dont worry America, hold out for six months and that extra bit in your check might be able to pay for it! Lets hope the businesses can hold out that long too.

  29. How is this going to affect our tax filings for 2009? Am I going to have to pay in this year? Will I get a lot less than normal? I plan on that tax refund money every year as I am sure millions of Americans do!

  30. WHY HASN’T THE REMAINING BALANCE OF THE UNSPENT STIMULUS MONEY BEEN GIVEN TO THE TAXPAYERS AS A ONE LUMP SUM CHECK (WHERE IT WILL DO SOME GOOD), INSTEAD OF EITHER SPENDING IT ON SOME OTHER GOVERNMENT PROJECT, UNKNOWN BILL OR ANY OTHER STUPID THING TO SPEND OUR MONEY, OR GIVE US $400 PER YEAR, PAID OUT IN A TAX RELIEF SO WE GET AN EXTRA $10,00 – $15.00 PER PAY CHECK. I MAKE A DECENT LIVING, BUT STRUGGLE PAYDAY TO PAYDAY. DOES THE PRESIDENT AND THE ELECTED FOOLS ACTUALLY THINK THIS HELPS ANYONE? WE NEED HELP!! GIVE US THE REMAINING BALANCE THAT WE EXPECTED TO SPEND AND LET US BUY NEW PRODUCTS, SAVE SOME. THIS WILL BRING BACK THE ECONOMY AND JOBS!!
