2010 Stimulus check

October 31, 2009

The 2010 stimulus check is set to help over 90% of Americans, but how will this affect you? The changes operated after the implementation of the stimulus have shown themselves clearly in 2009 by way of the stimulus check a high percentage of citizens have received, but its continuation in 2010 will be a bit different. The way in which the stimulus will work consists in a decrease in federal taxes, which will manifest itself through increases in average Americans’ paychecks.

But how do you know you qualify for this generalized federal tax deduction that is part of the government’s stimulus package and how should you go about receiving what the government is offering you, like a 2010 stimulus check ? First of all, in order to qualify, you must be paying social security; this means you have to be employed (or self-employed), i.e. you must be working and paying taxes. You must also make sure that your income does not exceeded the amount of $95,000 per year, or, if you are married and wish to submit a joint stimulus consideration request, then the joint income of the two applicants mustn’t exceed $190,000 per year. You must also keep in mind that certain restrictions to the federal tax cut the stimulus will grant you apply if your annual intake exceeds $75,000 or if you and your spouse’s joint annual income exceeds $150,000.

The federal tax deduction comprised in the stimulus will put in (or rather, not take out of) your pocket the sum of $400 (or for a joint application a total of $800). This is money the government normally would have taken out of your salary that you are now allowed to keep. It’s the same amount you will receive in 2009, only divided along 12 months instead of 9. This, in case you meet all the requirements and benefit from the full tax deduction. The amount of the deduction will be smaller depending on where you stand on the annual income chart. You will not be receiving a check in the mail or a check from your employer to mark the stimulus tax cut, but rather, you will be receiving an extra few dollars every month on top of what you’ve been earning so far. Those with maximal benefits from the stimulus will cash an extra $33 every month for the duration of the 2010 stimulus check thanks to the stimulus plan. That means that if you are filing for the federal tax deduction with someone else, together you will receive $66 every month.

If you are working two jobs and qualify for the federal tax cut, you will probably need to be extra careful. As it turns out, you stand to get a tax deduction on both paychecks, which means that you that you have double benefits, which unfortunately isn’t possible. Even if you are working two jobs, you only qualify for one share of the stimulus plan, which means that if you receive the something extra on your paychecks from both jobs, you will either have to notify one of your employers instructing them to desist, or you will be required to return the extra money after the end of the fiscal year.

The tax deductions that accompany the stimulus plan are meant to make it easier to navigate through the economic crisis, for the hard working Americans who find themselves having difficulty keeping up with the ever changing economic climate. While it might not seem like much on a grand scale, the federal tax deduction comprised in the 2010 stimulus check can make things a lot easier for many of those who are struggling to make ends meet.

  1. I am retired so that means we will get nothing ? I will go out and buy a new something if I can get the $800.00

  2. Bill from August 12th is right. I look at the comments and see some pretty sorry people who are only looking for a hand-out. The $400 or $800 tax reduction on the taxes that you pay will only come back to haunt most people later on. This will be in the form of paying taxes next year at income tax time or having a refund reduced. For those of you looking for a “Bush” check, forget get. Those days are gone. Obama is merely giving you an advance on your next year’s tax refund. If you don’t get a refund, then you are awarded an additional $400 to $800 bill to pay. People it’s time to wake up and smell the roses. ALL politicians speak with two faces or as my ancestors said “forked tongue”. Also, Carolyn (July 28), please don’t embarrass the rest our us teachers with misspelled words. Sence is really spelled sense. I guess we can thank Arne Duncan for that one!

  4. That is great that the tax money won’t be coming out of my check every month, but with an increase in my paycheck amount comes an increase in my monthly rent to the housing authority so that just digs me into a deeper hole than I am already in….what am I supposed to do!?!?!

  5. The hard working true american is tired of supporting all the dirtbags. The goverment allows them to come into our country. They don’t put in one minute of work and don’t know how to speak english, but they get our tax dollars that we bust our ass every day for. Then the goverment officals take a free ride on us too. They should have all their income posted sn we would know what they’re sitting on. I think a goverment take over is due.

  6. OMG….I can’t believe what I am reading here. People complaining about something for nothing (stimulus payment). Those without jobs, unemployed, retired, disabled and such complaining about the help that they get is not enough then GET A JOB!!! Most of the posts I see on here look like they are written by elementary school kids. Learn the language, how to form a complete sentence, learn how to spell and capitalize when needed. Then and only then will you be ready to write your resume and gain employment. Please people, stop the bitching and watch your spending. Pass up on that new car this year, the flat screen TV and other unnecessary expenditures and pay down those bills!!!

  9. People…. if you are living in the US our not getting a check.. it gets deducted from the % of taxs u get taken out weekly/bi-weekly etc if you live in Puerto Rico you do recieve a paper check, because our system is not set up to reduce the % of our tax deduction….So the correct answer is yes and no Lol : US no … PR yes last year I recieved 800.00 and this years it should be the same I should recieve it by October.

  10. WOW I have to agree folks can not read and stand there with there hands out. We are not getting a check we are to see less taken out of federal taxs so the end of the year our fed returns will be smaller. someone draw a picture for these ppl please

  11. Are you people all too stupid to read, in denial, or just retarded? There IS NO check…read the article. It’s not a check, it’s a lower deduction in your federal income tax from your paycheck….those of you who earn a paycheck, anyway. You won’t be receiving another stimulus check from the government.

  12. ok when are the disabled going to get this check

  13. As far as I can see and read…the “stimulus” check is not like the one done in the past. From what I understand…they are allowing those that qualify to not have 400.00 (indiv) or 800.00 (jointly) filed income taxes taken from you when you file. So, we will not be getting an actually check sent out. You will get this when you file your 2010 taxes. That is fine with me!!

  14. Elizabeth Flippin on August 4, 2010 at 8:04 pm

I actually think that the stimulus check should be at least $500.00, but who am I; I am sure that my opinion doesn’t count. Any ways I will gladly accept whatever I get whenever I get it, if I ever do.

  15. Elizabeth Flippin on August 4, 2010 at 7:54 pm

Where is my stimulus check? I was informed a month ago that “the checks are in the mail.” I guess the stimulus money was used to bail out another undeserving company?

Oh well, no Social Security Check increase for 2010 and looks like no stimulus check.

  16. what can i do with my check of $9.40 ??? thats what puerto rico gov given me

  17. I would like to know what about some of us americans that receive unemployment do we get to the so call stimulus payment in our checks because idon’t see an increase in mine and we deserve to see some type benefit because we all have worked hard for years as well pay our taxes what kind of benefit will we receive .

  18. HOW COME IT IS THAT DISABLED PEOPLE DO NOT QUALIFY FOR A STIMULUS CHECK. I HAVE BEEN DISABLED FOR 2 YEARS AND I CAN’T GET HELP FROM THE GOVERNMENT AT ALL. THIS IS VERY DISTURBING. HOW DO WE GET HELP WHEN SSA WANTS TO DENY YOU FOR 2 YEARS. STILL I RECEIVE NOTHING. I HAVE A FAMILY OF 5 AND MY WIFE GETS A DISABILITY CHECK FOR $674.00 MY SON GETS ONE FOR & 598.00 WELFARE ONLY GIVES US $200.00 FOR FOOD I MEAN HOW IS A PERSON SUPPOSED TO LIVE LIKE THIS.. 2 YEARS IN A ROW NOW IN THE WINTER WE HAVE LOST OUR POWER BECAUSE WE CAN’T KEEP UP WITH IT, THEN IT GOES TO COLLECTION.. WHERE IS THE HELP. STIMULUS IS A JOKE AND SO IS ALL THE OTHER AGENCIES WHO CLAIM TO HELP..

I am on social security and only get $452.00 a month. I need the moneyh too will iI get a Stimulus Check.

  20. By the way—-I’m a teacher. My extra money goes to my class/students – it’s their stimulas package!!!!!

  21. Well, a lump sum would have been nicer – but I can see that to hand out money it would make more sence to add a little to each check.

I think Obama is doing fine (no one in that office has been 100%.) After all – is there one person (male/female – any race) that we all would agree on. No!

  22. guys read the article. we will not receive a check. the feds just aren’t taking as much out of our normal paychecks. the downside i see to this is that our tax return checks at the beginning of 2011 will be much lower BECAUSE the feds aren’t taking as much. [ low federal tax withholdings = low federal tax return ]

Freedom of speech is the freedom to speak without censorship or limitation, or both!!!

  24. How about the people that are not working and are looking for a job and they did their taxes for 2009? Do they get the stimulus check by mail?

  25. Umm… people are you reading the article correctly? There is NOT a stimulus check being mailed to you. It is an AMOUNT spread over the year and put directly in your paychecks. Last year it amounted to about $40 per month, so if you got paid weekly, you should have seen about $10 more in your paycheck. If you got paid bi-weekly, you saw $20 extra and if you got paid monthly, you saw the entire $40 extra in your paycheck. This year because it is the same amount of money spread over the entire year, you will be lucky to get $7 in your weekly check. Don’t plan a retirement off of that!! But you WILL NOT… and I REPEAT WILL NOT be getting a check for the entire amount (unless there is another plan that has not been shared with the American people yet). Don’t expect to see a check in the mail… it’s NOT happening.

I’m confused. All these people are thinking they are going to actually receive a $400.00 stimulus check. But if you actually read through the story, it says the $400.00 won’t be taken out of our paychecks so we will bring home a higher net ($33.00 – Big Deal). Am I wrong? Or are we getting both. Because so far this year, my net has NOT increased.

  27. i did speak mt mind, you are not listening

  28. i am 81 yrs. and i live on a fixed income.what i make is not enough to pay taxes .told to me by my income tax filer.does this unqualify from getting the stimulas pkg.

  29. same old question ya or na on stimulis check for 2010

  30. WE WILL NEVER RECIEVE A STIMULUS CHECK….LIES LIES LIES!!!!! YOU GOT TO LOVE THE MEDIA AND PEOPLE WHO WATCH IT

Got something to say?
