The 2010 stimulus check is set to help over 90% of Americans, but how will this affect you? The changes operated after the implementation of the stimulus have shown themselves clearly in 2009 by way of the stimulus check a high percentage of citizens have received, but its continuation in 2010 will be a bit different. The way in which the stimulus will work consists in a decrease in federal taxes, which will manifest itself through increases in average Americans’ paychecks.


But how do you know you qualify for this generalized federal tax deduction that is part of the government’s stimulus package and how should you go about receiving what the government is offering you, like a 2010 stimulus check ? First of all, in order to qualify, you must be paying social security; this means you have to be employed (or self-employed), i.e. you must be working and paying taxes. You must also make sure that your income does not exceeded the amount of $95,000 per year, or, if you are married and wish to submit a joint stimulus consideration request, then the joint income of the two applicants mustn’t exceed $190,000 per year. You must also keep in mind that certain restrictions to the federal tax cut the stimulus will grant you apply if your annual intake exceeds $75,000 or if you and your spouse’s joint annual income exceeds $150,000.


The federal tax deduction comprised in the stimulus will put in (or rather, not take out of) your pocket the sum of $400 (or for a joint application a total of $800). This is money the government normally would have taken out of your salary that you are now allowed to keep. It’s the same amount you will receive in 2009, only divided along 12 months instead of 9. This, in case you meet all the requirements and benefit from the full tax deduction. The amount of the deduction will be smaller depending on where you stand on the annual income chart. You will not be receiving a check in the mail or a check from your employer to mark the stimulus tax cut, but rather, you will be receiving an extra few dollars every month on top of what you’ve been earning so far. Those with maximal benefits from the stimulus will cash an extra $33 every month for the duration of the 2010 stimulus check thanks to the stimulus plan. That means that if you are filing for the federal tax deduction with someone else, together you will receive $66 every month.

If you are working two jobs and qualify for the federal tax cut, you will probably need to be extra careful. As it turns out, you stand to get a tax deduction on both paychecks, which means that you that you have double benefits, which unfortunately isn’t possible. Even if you are working two jobs, you only qualify for one share of the stimulus plan, which means that if you receive the something extra on your paychecks from both jobs, you will either have to notify one of your employers instructing them to desist, or you will be required to return the extra money after the end of the fiscal year.


The tax deductions that accompany the stimulus plan are meant to make it easier to navigate through the economic crisis, for the hard working Americans who find themselves having difficulty keeping up with the ever changing economic climate. While it might not seem like much on a grand scale, the federal tax deduction comprised in the 2010 stimulus check can make things a lot easier for many of those who are struggling to make ends meet.

    it’s governments’ job to screw the citizens, no matter what country you live in. the bad thing about the usa is how they do it in such a cunning way. this stimulus thing is the apple in our garden of eden. i earn barely $12,000 a year as a janitor (not everyone can be a ceo, doctor, or lawyer) and still have to pay fed tax about $50.00 extra each year. oh, just have my employer withhold extra from each check all year to offset this you say? hmmm……..how does any possible refund in april, or just breaking even, help me cover my bills the rest of the year? if you aren’t in my income bracket you have no clue. i wish i could refuse the stimulus tax reduction because the last one caused me to owe $249.00 fed last year. i had the understanding it was not supposed to affect income tax. i was not surprised by what it did to me. nothing our government does has ever surprised me. i’ve seen the bumper stickers ‘america, love it or leave it’. well, they’ve pretty well kept me unable to afford to leave, so every time our government dangles another shiny red worm-filled apple, i just bend over and bare my buttocks. we can never vote in the ‘right one’ because they all end up sleeping with ‘big business’ . the only ones who benefit from what the government does is big business and people who already have more money than God. and sheeple, it’s never gonna change. ever.

Our country has been down the damn tube way before Obama became president!!! It has nothing to do with color even though your stupidity is boundless.     Oh and Disable Vet, what are you talking about man. I too am a disabled veteran, well a truly disabled veteran with a 100% disability rating from an injury(less than half my intestinal track and prosthetic right hip). I get 2200 a month as a disabled veteran, thats equivalent to a $14 an hour job, plus i get VA health benefits. Not only do i live off of that, but i also have enough to invest in furtune 500 every month. If you can not live off of that, well then you are probably living in an area where the cost of living is high. I suggest moving to an inland state like indiana or kentucky where the cost of living is low, and quit complaining. You make more for sitting on your bum than most people out there busting their butts every day at work.

    Sigh. You know, what i dont get is why we can go into an election where congress is primarily republican dominant and we end up with a democrat for a president. I mean any halfway intelligent american knows that WE the people do not decide who will be elected president, that decision is made by the electoral vote which is made by our house representatives. Now our House representatives are put into office by us. That election is determined by our votes, and our House reps make their electoral vote based on the majority vote in their district in the Popular vote where we do cast our ballot for president(which doesnt count toward the election). Now a wise representative will cast his vote for whoever the majority of his district voted for in the popular vote, but he does not have to, he can vote the other way in the electoral college if he wants. But if he wants to stay in office, he will do what the majority wants.

    Now my question is, why is it the ignorant american public votes republican for the house rep, but then votes democrat for their popular presidential vote? I think it is a common ignorance of the general public of the complex process on how bills are proposed and passed. So let me make it simple for you.

    President Obama wants to start acting on his “Change we need” policy that got him elected so he decides to take his first step by trying to change the healthcare system. He gets with his advisors and types up a proposition to socialize healthcare, he then goes to Capitol Hill and drops his proposal in the Hopper for congress to read over and make changes and turn it into something that will benefit somebody. Well congress is primarily Republican. And if you pay any attention to business articles in the news and major media, there are a large handful of Republican reps in office that have significant financial interests in things like AIG, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cobra, and Medwise(major health insurance corporations). Now do you really think they are going to hurt their own wallets by writing up a bill that will eliminate a need for a business that they have a significant financial interest in? Hell no, so they take Obama’s bill, make amendments, re word, add things, take things out and by the time they are done, it looks nothing like what Obama proposed. We are screwed right? Well luckily, there are 3 branches of government, and each one can trump another. Congress falls under the Legislative branch which luckily for is is trumped by the Executive Branch(the president). So before the bill is passed, it is put on the Presidents desk to read over and he is given the option to Veto(give it a thumbs down). Well Obama wanted to socialize healthcare, Congress didn’t, so when Obama’s bill goes through the system and arrives back on his desk, it looks nothing like what he originally proposed, and not only that it was going to make things worse for the average american, and make the guys that actually wrote the bill more wealthy, so he gets pissed, gives congress the finger, and gets out his little red VETO stamp, and all of that work was for nothing.

    This is what happens when we as the people split government into half republican and half democrat. Nothing gets done. The only reason Clinton was so successful was because he was a democratic president with a democratic congress, so bills were passed and shit got done.

    So if you really want some changes made, for better or worse, make sure you are voting for one party in both elections, not half and half. Your vote puts your congressman in office, and his vote puts your president in office.

    the reason people are overweight that recieve foodstamps is because they shop at the local mini mart they buy sodas candy chips and ice cream and paisteries.its suppose to be for food.i work at a store i see this all day long..then they sell the stamps so they can buy cigarettes beer and blunts and weed..you can buy 50 dollars worth of foodstamps for 20 dollars.what happened to the old days..rice beans and milk and cheese and a can of pork..put these people to work cleaning the streets after all their kids are the ones that trash it up. whats this world comming too.

    Seriously? I have no idea why I read any of these comments but I did. PLAN AHEAD PEOPLE! The government was never established to help the people, it was established to protect the people. You have kids? You should have saved or waited… You lost your job? You should have been bettering yourself on the side and set yourself above the rest. I am not saying that things don’t come up and there are never extenuating circumstances where people deserve help, but the government was never here to fix problems in your life that you did not foresee. If you recall back to a history course in high-school, you should be able to recall 2 things; 1) No country (which includes its economy) stays gold for long and there are even fluctuations during great times in great places, which means it’s citizens are directly affected accordingly, and 2) No country has ever been successful while 10% of it’s population wasn’t doing anything and needed to be taken care of, which means YOU need to do something! They history repeats its self for a reason, because the only thing we can learn from is the past. Its true, look up any research article of learning or behavior (ABA). Another history lesson, no person has ever succeeded by complaining about what they didn’t have or by depending completely upon others. So, why would you depend on the government to take care of you? Take their handouts and get back on your feet asap. If you are too old, you are kind of at a loss… You should have opened an IRA or 401k. Yes, I know you paid your taxes but that wasn’t the intention of them. Quite frankly, most could handle money better than putting it in SS which I pay into and will never see a dime of (there is one rightful complaint). The point is, that Americans need to be self sufficient and not depend on others. The ones who truly cannot will be taken care of by the generous people who consistently donate to, and work for, non-profs as they require more contingencies than filling out a paper every 3 months that states they applied for a job, which means they will actually have to be willing to help them selves. If you sit around and wonder why someone isn’t helping you, be truthful to yourself and identify how you are helping yourself, and then make damn sure it is more than you thought you could do. If you are trying, and others see it, they will help to. We are empathetic beings, but we have no empathy for people who screw themselves. so, Don’t have 3 kids, don’t rely on a degree to get you a job, don’t be an ignorant by using racist and derogatory terms as an attack on others (Joe), don’t rely on SS, just don’t make decisions that affect the rest of you life that you can’t afford. I am not going to pay for them. Oh and if you would like to help yourself, start by ; 1) not being offended or defensive when other people give advice, criticize, or attack, as every message has something to benefit from (that is why we communicate), 2) always plan ahead and don’t rely on others too much in that plan, 3) adjust your plans as you receive new information, 4) you can always be better (everyone), 5) be open to new ideas as everything is changing and if you stay the same you will not survive (evolution 101), 6) be honest and objective with yourself and about yourself as you will not benefit from acting off of false information, and 7) if you want to make a small investment (or you may be able to find it online for free) read “Who Moved My Cheese” and take it to heart (think about how it applies to people you know and yourself). If you stick around waiting for things to go back to how they used to be it won’t happen, you have to get up and go find it.

    I think it’s about time to give our senior citizens and those living on very limited resources a BREAK ! After all some of us have to decide wether to buy our meds or eat, we also can’t afford the gas to get to our doctors appointments. Whats nythematter with our government any way? Mr. Obama I’d like to see you live on $780.00 A MONTH I LIVE ON ! I’think all of our representives, including the PRESIDENT should only get paid minium wage. After all they still have all of the companies they get paid from! COME ON I’ts TIME TO GIVE US THAT ARE LIVING ON DISIBILITY OR VERY LITTLE SOCIAL SECURITY A BREAK! WE NEED HELP!

    Why are you out there having babies when you can’t afford it????? So the tax payers pay for your medical bills, medicaid, food stamps??? How about using a condom? You can even get them free at the Health Dept. I always wanted more children but knew I could not afford to pay for the food, clothes, xtra utilities, car ins. college education etc.. Stop expecting others to pay for your decision of having a larger family. If you don’t grow your own food and sew your own clothes, and can’t afford kids…. then don’t have them. Get a dog. I am personally tired of having tax $ taken out of my ck ea. paycheck to support these kinds of BAD decisions made by others. I see medicaid patients every day that keep having baby after baby… And don’t get me start on the illegals in this country… Lets just cross the border and have a baby…………………….

    my husband and i are disable, we had depend upon the the raise we get at the begining of the year, to help meet our bill every year, now its cut out, what else? we depend upon this raised to help out. obama give us our raised back.

    Dear Mom of 2: U might try working for a daycare center and taking your baby along with you. When you rest up from having your 2nd baby, go back to work for a daycare center…when the babies r both school age, go 2 work for the public school system so that you will have benefits for yourself and your children, and if you have enough energy in the summer time, go to work for a summer camp daycare program where your children can attend 2 and have a great time in the out of doors while you are close by earning money and out of doors a little yourself. The real beauty of working for the school system, in whatever capacity, even in the school lunch program is that you will be also contributing to the retirement plan, the same as the teachers and administrators even, earning money and will be right there at home when your children come home. You can teach them to help you with food prep and since they will be eligible for school lunch program, you won’t be having to cook breakfast and lunch, just a little dinner that could even be prepared ahead on the weekends with their help. Stick with the school system as a great career longterm and with the daycare programs and summer camps now and while they r still young enough 2 be with you while you work. The years will fly by and you will b an experienced childcare worker by the time they r ready for public school then u can be hired by the public school system, maybe even to work in the nurses office, or the business offices that close when the children go home from school. You can even find, if u look hard, some daycares that r open all night, to work for, that take care of medical people who r working shifts at the hospitals. It’s not hopeless because everyone is in need of people, always to take care of their children. God Bless you and your babies. Congratulations on having two.

    What about the Seniors? No cost of living increase for the past two years, Medicare benefits are less and less. We buy food, pay taxes, bills etc. just like the working class. I think we deserve some type of stimulus to help us out. The working class as least bring home a decent paycheck every week. We Seniors get a Social Security check only once a month. Please help us out.

    Why are the seniors excluded from this stimulas program? I will be 70 in December and my husband, who is in a nursing home after suffering a stroke 12 years ago, is 84. I sold my house and moved into a condo and am just making ends meet living from month to month. Help me understand this. Thank you.

    I am curious to know why is it that the stimulus was not to help the average American by putting the money into their hands? Instead it was given to BIG BUSINESSES that used it for thier on means. The average person was not trusted enough to get the money and put it back into the economy. Doing such things as paying bills, like their mortages, which in my opinion would have more than half solved the foreclosure crisis. But those who were trusted to create programs to help only made a complete mess of things and hurted the economy.
    They saw those big figures and looked for ways to cheat, scam and defraud the American people. It just goes to show what happens when you stop trusting God and start trusting men. God always win.

    I was told by my doctor that I am unable to work, due to surgery and until I am fully recovered. So I am disabled now, I finally got him to sign of saying that I am able to go back to school so that I can continue my vocational rehabilitation, where I can get a job that I am able to sit down at. Some people that are disabled are just cheating the system, but some others like myself need to be retrained in order to do office work. This is because office jobs are mainly held by those with an education, not those who have learned skilled trades with no education just ojt. That is why disabled people can go to school and sit there in class, and no they are not some how better or not disabled anymore, they just completed their education so that they can rejoin the work force. When I graduate I am still going to be disabled and will only get worse as the years go by, bones dont grow back so while I sit in class, it is so that I can get a job that provides for my family. Not because I am lazy, I need to be retrained in order to get that job. YOUNG FEMALE VET…Young is the key word, I am a disabled vet from OEF, problally before you even thought about joining I was already serving my country. So I will not be “less disabled” I will be educated to get the job that suits my disablities so that I can work, like many others.

    To say most people who recieve foodstamps are overweight is a gross generalization. America as a whole is experiencing a high percentage of obesity. It is a fact however that healthier and/or higher quality food tends to be pricier and for people such as myself who recieve food benefits, I gravitate toward the cheaper food. The overprocessed/ higher fat food is easier to make so then its cheaper in the store. Its crazy to me that foods that are bad for you are so easily accesible when really it should be the other way around but when you are on a strict budget sometimes you haveto make a quantity over quality decision.

    No stimulus in 2010 for seniors or veterans.

    The only Republican who voted for it was Mary Snowe. All other Republicans gave it a nay vote. Total vote was 47-50.

    OK, I have a husband that works hard, I stay at home with the 3 children to take them to all sorts of doctors appointment…I mean ALL sorts. I am not stupid, I worked full time until I was needed more at home. Please do not dis all the unemployed people. There are many categories of us.

    Working in the medical field for 6 years I see what “disabled” truely is. Many true disabled people still work because they fear not being able to provide to their family. It’s the ones who make continuous appointments to document some type of pain, wanting a disability logo on their license plate so they don’t have to walk in the rain…I think to myself, the ones who are truely deserving of government assistance rarely take it until they literally work themselves into the ground. I was hurt on a deployment, so much so I could probably try to collect disability but no I work, I was being treated for cancer, I worked. I work because I know I can. I work because I WILL NOT BURDEN society. How many of the disabled are truely disabled?

    I understand those who can’t work. A nurse I worked with had terminal breast cancer, she needs to stay home. She was too weak to walk at work and handle 5 lb babies was like lifting a refrigerator. My aunt has scoliosis, she has more surguries than Michael Jackson’s face, she can no longer works because she has a morphine pump to help her make it through the basics of a day. These people, I stand by, they literally can’t work, go to school, barely take of themselves.
    If your going to school….how the hell are you disabled? You can sit in class for hours but not work? Most work doesn’t involve lifting, most work includes sitting. So when you graduate your gonna somehow become “less disabled” and find a job? Weird….

    I am 75, my wife is 67. We are both on S/S. MAKING ENDS MEET IS VERY DIFFICULT each month. Why are we excluded from participating in this stimulas program. We both paid S/S bill for years. HELP!

    I came on this site to glean information for a research paper about the “New Stimulus Plan” that is in the works. I understand everyone’s anger on all sides. However, I believe that before you go off on individuals, that you should be very informed of the situations that you are commenting on. I work a job, I hold an Accounting degree with no where to use it, I am now going to school full-time to recieve a Bachelor’s in Management because of not being able to use my Accounting degree. My Husband works full-time plus (previously owned his own business that has been put on hold). Our children receive famis for medical insurance. My mother lost her home to foreclosure. She is unable to work due to medical problems. Her Social Security was taken from her because the Social Security Administration said she made money off of her forclosed home (SSA needs to get educated on this) and they took her check, so now she has no income. I was disabled for a while, received no income. I was in an automobile accident. Had a basiler skull fracture, couldn’t walk, drink from a straw, hold a pencil, double vision, etc…..I know how it feels to be sole dependant on others. Not very good and to have someone who doesn’t understand or experienced in some way with the every day stuggles to pass judgement is just ignorant. You people do need to feel shame for the nasty comments that you have spoken. It is easy to pass judgement when you do not know all of the facts or see the struggle that others go through in their daily lives. What happened to compassion, love, humanity? Everyone is having hard times. Some more than others. I do all that I am able to help out. Quit pointing fingers at others and start banning together to make a difference with the things that need changing. Also, reality check people who are unemployed are required to apply for jobs in order to recieve their unemployment benifits. Notice Unemployed means that before this step occured they were previously working a job that was taken from them due to moving of factories to Mexico, china, etc….or “brainstorm” businesses had to close due to the economic times. So they aren’t being lazy if there are just no jobs available. I heard a comment the other day from someone who went to McDonalds and put in for a job. McDonalds told them they were not doing any hiring at this time. If you can’t even find a job in fast food you know that the prospects for jobs are slim to none. Wake up people…..

But the funny thing is i work for the government and still don’t make minimum wage. Then come back from war, to here that your nigger president is about to take your combat pay away probably because um well…. he has a point to prove? First african american in the office!!! ohhhhhh good job guy you’ve spent more of the taxpayers money in 7 months then bush did in 3 or 4 years…WTF right! one more thing and then i am done just look at yourself in the mirror and ask the person staring at you what in the hell you have accomplished in your life if you cant give him or her an answer, just give up because your probably never gonna succeed! and stop trying to ruin others lives. might be of topic but i had to say it FUCK OBAMA!!!!!

    I cannot believe the unbelievably ignorant things that people are saying! I am mother of 2, i was working this whole year up until recently that they fired me because i had 2 pregnancy complications where I had to call into work. i was never late, and was one of the best employees the company had. I guess that the company thought they were going to easily get away with it as they were a temp agency and had told everyone we would not qualify for unemployment benefits. I was never contacted by phone, never received a warning, all i got was an email saying to go pick up my things. this was a job where i was earning $13.50. I have a daughter and another coming next month, and for every 40 hours i had about $140 coming out of my check. i had no assistance for child care and am a single mother. I filed for unemployment, and the only thing i get is a measily $97 a week! i look for work all the time, but who is going to hire a 36 week pregnant woman? now this stimulus is saying you have to be employed which i think is insanity, because i worked what i was supposed to and did my job damn well. ive always been hard working, and been working since before it was even legal! i was a 9 year old washing dishes morning to night time all day on the weekends and got paid $5 a day, and worked since i was 15 legally, so for you guys to say that everyone relying on this are lazy a##es, is completely ignorant, because some of us cant help it. Employers will not hire a pregnany woman, much less with this economy where they will first hire a fully healthy person, willing to accept min. wage and not need maternity leave!
