2010 Stimulus check

October 31, 2009

The 2010 stimulus check is set to help over 90% of Americans, but how will this affect you? The changes operated after the implementation of the stimulus have shown themselves clearly in 2009 by way of the stimulus check a high percentage of citizens have received, but its continuation in 2010 will be a bit different. The way in which the stimulus will work consists in a decrease in federal taxes, which will manifest itself through increases in average Americans’ paychecks.

But how do you know you qualify for this generalized federal tax deduction that is part of the government’s stimulus package and how should you go about receiving what the government is offering you, like a 2010 stimulus check ? First of all, in order to qualify, you must be paying social security; this means you have to be employed (or self-employed), i.e. you must be working and paying taxes. You must also make sure that your income does not exceeded the amount of $95,000 per year, or, if you are married and wish to submit a joint stimulus consideration request, then the joint income of the two applicants mustn’t exceed $190,000 per year. You must also keep in mind that certain restrictions to the federal tax cut the stimulus will grant you apply if your annual intake exceeds $75,000 or if you and your spouse’s joint annual income exceeds $150,000.

The federal tax deduction comprised in the stimulus will put in (or rather, not take out of) your pocket the sum of $400 (or for a joint application a total of $800). This is money the government normally would have taken out of your salary that you are now allowed to keep. It’s the same amount you will receive in 2009, only divided along 12 months instead of 9. This, in case you meet all the requirements and benefit from the full tax deduction. The amount of the deduction will be smaller depending on where you stand on the annual income chart. You will not be receiving a check in the mail or a check from your employer to mark the stimulus tax cut, but rather, you will be receiving an extra few dollars every month on top of what you’ve been earning so far. Those with maximal benefits from the stimulus will cash an extra $33 every month for the duration of the 2010 stimulus check thanks to the stimulus plan. That means that if you are filing for the federal tax deduction with someone else, together you will receive $66 every month.

If you are working two jobs and qualify for the federal tax cut, you will probably need to be extra careful. As it turns out, you stand to get a tax deduction on both paychecks, which means that you that you have double benefits, which unfortunately isn’t possible. Even if you are working two jobs, you only qualify for one share of the stimulus plan, which means that if you receive the something extra on your paychecks from both jobs, you will either have to notify one of your employers instructing them to desist, or you will be required to return the extra money after the end of the fiscal year.

The tax deductions that accompany the stimulus plan are meant to make it easier to navigate through the economic crisis, for the hard working Americans who find themselves having difficulty keeping up with the ever changing economic climate. While it might not seem like much on a grand scale, the federal tax deduction comprised in the 2010 stimulus check can make things a lot easier for many of those who are struggling to make ends meet.

  1. all this is fine and wonderful but what i think these people don’t realize is yes you may get extra money all year long but it will be deducted from your return at the end of the year or you will owe it back i like many americans right now work for minimum wage and have no federal taxes taken out even though i filed zero and when i filed my return this year it actually took like 200$ off my return so even though you get extra all year long you will pay it back and thats how they get you!!!!!

  2. Why is it that all of us pissed off people can’t seem to make a difference like we need to? Obama is screwing us into the ground, does anybody know how to impeach him? Also, notice how we are already destroying the constitution? We’re about to add to the damage with the health care reform. I know I have been one in the past, so here is a hypocritical statement, but, please stop JUST complaining, start voting and trying to make a difference, maybe enough of us can. I’m tired of living in a world where all we do is eat, sleep, work, and pay taxes, and for what? a government that just keeps screwing us! WE SHOULD GET EVEN MORE PISSED OFF!

  3. I am a disabled retiree on a small monthly income of $792. I have more bills than money. I’m looking forward to receiving a stimulus if there will be one. It helps relieve some of the stress. My hope is to one day go back to work if I can. Even part-time would help, which is what I was doing. My health just deteriated, and I had to give up the job. I looked forwared to getting out of the house and being among people. I especially liked getting a tax refund every year. If there is a stimulus, good, if not,so be it. Don’t criticize our President for it. Myself, I think he’s doing great.

I really hope we get one.Because finally I can pay the gas bill .It’s been six months without hot water and me and my family are getting tired of warming up the water in the microwave. And before we get into somebody sayin I should be happy because somebody in a third world country dont got so and so. Well this aint a third world this is AMERICA. And I’m very much greatful to be in it. But I say take care of us first and once were good then put out the helping hand. Cause right this very second im starving. And im very greatful I got sum top ramen noodles.

  5. Question. I work for a Non-profit organization. We are not getting any extra money in our checks. Does this mean when we file, that we will get this back when we do our taxes? My husband however, only gets an extra $13 a pay, but i assume i should still be able to collect on tax return.
Another thing, a girl here at work (she only worked here in the summer), she did her taxes and her tax lady said that she wasnt able to receive that money–that the employer has that choice to give it to us or not. Is this TRUE?!?! i sure hope not..personally, i dont think its possible because the governement didnt give it to the employer, they’re suppose to give it to the tax payers…ehheeemm..me…

Thanks to anyone who can answer…

  6. what is going on with the stimulus check mr president oramma is really stickin it to the seniors who have worked for this now we have to keep hoping that we will get it all mr so called pres.wants for people to kiss his stinking feet because he thinks hes God no one can ever be God because no one is perfect

  7. I’d like to know when the stumulus check that people on SSDI get since there is no increase in the cost of living for SSDI payments and a stimulus check was supposed to be given in January but I have not received mine yet.

  8. i am on a fixed income .and i know i heard Obama say we would get a stimulus check this year .and so far nothing.whats going on i need to pay my taxes.please
please help us obama like you said

  9. This is why a blacklisted candidate member like Ron Paul, who I was rooting for should be in office RIGHT now. The entire U.S. wouldn’t be worrying about Stimulus checks, taxes would be lowered and the U.S. would be coming out of its recession; maybe not quickly but we wouldn’t be going further into one. The world is going straight into a George Orwell 1984 scene with communist ethics. This is utterly pathetic. A comment below mine reads, “… Why don’t you walk away?” Where would we all go?

  10. I have one question.. I work fulltime and claimed myself on my taxes but my mom is going to claim me since im living under her roof does that mean i wont get my stimulus money?… Or does it get added to hers..I need to know I could really use the money for my rent!!!! TO MOVE OUT!!=]

  11. Wow!Here I was hoping to get a little extra money from Uncle Sam!!!!!

  12. Effin silly! if everyone’s so angry with Uncle Sam, why don’t you all walk away?

  13. All i can say is , I miss George W Bush , i voted for him both times , but i wouldnt spit on obama is he was on fire so far he has proven to be worthless as a president , i watched his speeches and all he kept saying was change change change , well to everyone who voted for him i hope his ” change ” has affected u And to all those who didnt be blessed. and keep ur chin up

  14. Toni,
Seniors paid into the system some for 50+ years, so don’t act like you are such an effen martyr! For the first time in 35 years, seniors receive no cost of living adjustment. The $250 stimulus that was promised wouldn’t make a dent in what jackass Obama has taken from us!

  15. it would be better if the gov only gave us 5.00 a month that would be 60.00 a year

  16. Linda Solinski on January 15, 2010 at 9:55 pm

I feel that the goverment should have given the taxpayers the big bailout, maybe a million to heads of households, then we could have bought a new car, payed off our mortgages, credit cards, bills and be able to get medical Insurance. Then the banks would have been payed off without getting a bailout. Then we would have money left to spend and keep the economy afloat, and have a nest egg to save too! Add up all the billions given to banks, then multiply heads of house hold rebates, and you would see the economy and jobs go up!!!

  17. come on people please!i live on 694.00 a month and getting by bairly although some bills dont get paid in full. im on disability.i was injured when i was in school but i still struggled trying to work until doctors told me i could not work any longer.i have bad credit of course.
why is everyone fussing over $33.00 stimulous a month. we people on disability did not even see a raise this year. 33.00 a month is better than not getting it at all.
give the man a break.you must crawl before you can walk.we need to be thankful of what you do have and not so much of what you do not have and thank god you are alive and you do have what few things you do have.give the praise to god because if it wasn’t for him where would we really be.
its not good to get your blood presser up for knowthing.
we didnt even get a stimulous check until obama came so yes it would help everyone if we got a stimulus or even a raise but if we dont then just thank god for what you do have and give him the glory he is the one is owed. not us.everyone talk about our country this our country that .yes i agree we are in trouble and there are people dieing every day to save our country, what about the other countrys?we all were put here for a reason.it dont matter what country is hurting.everyone is hurting.the people in other countries is not as infortunate as we are.we as PEOPLE need to stick together and just trust in god that he will provide for us but also do it yourself.we make us who we are.alot of our people in this country is hating others just because you dont think they belong here.who are we to judge.we all bleed the same.help one another.god put us all here.and everything happenes for a reason have you ever give it a thought that maybe,
just maybe we are being punished because we have stolen from god or forgot what reason we are supposed to be here.we are supposed to be here to work for god.alot of us dont.even the ones that is working for god maybe there is something they are not doing that god wants us to do.the world is coming to the end.where do you want to be when it does?you want to be staying behind fighting over who should get the money ?or you want to rise above with our holy father.stick together.if it happenes it happenes there is nothing we can really do to change it.

My husband and I have 4 kids that live with us…how on earth does the gov’t come to the conclusion that $33 extra a month will actually make a difference? I don’t agree with a lot of what Bush did but if there was going to be a stimulus check he did it the right way. A 1 lump sum check. Although I do understand the thought behind changing it (that people would use that check to buy things likes TVs or such instead of bills) What bill will $33 pay? Our lowest bill is our water bill..and $33 will not even pay that. I mean really..if a person would use that check to buy a TV or a playstation when they have outstanding bills…then when they are sitting in the dark unable to watch that new TV or play the Playstation or having it set out on the curb because their rent did not get paid…then they deserve what they get.

  19. I have worked every day of my life in a tax paying job since the age of 16. In 2005 I was injured bad enough to where I am now on Partial Perminent Didability for the rest of my life, and I am still able to hold a part time job. When I got the stimulus for last year, it went into paying for some of my medical bills that was damaging my credit. I understand how some of you feel about peaople on disibility recieving this stimulus, but when you are a single father of two growing boys, you kneed all of the help that you can get. Try going from a job that you work 70-90 hours a week to only 16-20 a week and lose about $5.00 difference in pay for the rest of your life. I think the government should give all legal american’s a very good stimulus to be able to pay off some bills and to stimulate the economy a little at the same time!!!! They have enough eleigle imagrants living here and not charging them any taxes, so why should the legal american get screwed for all his/her hard work over the years.

  20. I was just wondering if checks will be issued this year? Llast year those who were receiving unemployment got a tax break.

come on for crying out loud.you are starving us ! i am on ss.and cant buy food, how dare you! i paid into it for many years, where is some help?

  22. The best way to say it is that our government is failing us. I don’t see them actually serving the American citizens. It’s time to make them accountable for their actions. I believe we need the average US citizen to run for an elected position. If enough of us did this they might get the point, or even better, we might actually get elected and take control to put us on the right map. Get rid of those special interest groups and actually work for the people – that is who they are suppose to work for anyway….right?

  23. I don’t know if anyone is aware of the programs for rental assistance. If you are paying $800 dollars a month for rent and you are low income, look into rental assistance; there are also other programs, i.e., electric assistance, heating, etc. There are so many programs out there and a lot of people do not even know about them. If you are making less than 18K a year for example, you should be trying to find subsidized housing. In some towns/cities there are also disability exemptions, which helps if you own property and I believe if you rent. It doesn’t cost anything to check into these programs and if you qualify, then take advantage of them because that is where your some of your tax dollars go!

  24. I just have one serious question. This article says that we are supposed to keep approximately $33.00 a month depending on our wages. If that is the case why is my bring home pay $15.00 a week less than it was the last pay period of 2009? That doesn’t seem much like a stimulus.

  25. when will we receive stimulis checks. and who will receive them

  26. Jodi Bailey … You should read the article again. You misunderstood the $800 part. It’s 800 Jointly (400 each).

“First of all, in order to qualify, you must be paying social security; this means you have to be employed (or self-employed), i.e. you must be working and paying taxes.”

Second of all, (forget the $95,000 ceiling – we don’t make 95K.)

That $400 is divided by 12 months (equals $33.33 a month) will not be ‘withheld’ from your Fed Income tax deduction each month.

That’s it. You get a bonus of $33.33 each month for 2010 – you won’t be receiving a $400 check. There is no bonus or relief for Seniors, Vets, and the like.

It’s quite a change from Obama’s stimulus announcement 6 months earlier. Pretty transparent, huh? Just ‘up’ & change the whole deal without any warning.

To all: how’s that “Change” thing working out for you?

  27. I’m single. I claim and file single. I receive $400.00 per year. Married couples, both working, claim and file single receive $800.00 each per year. That’s $1600.00 per household for a married couple. And I only receive one quarter of that. Something wrong with this picture? Will there be alot of surprized married couples having to pay back $800.00? Either I’m being short paid or Married couples are over paid…..and there will be alot of ticked off people. Any answers on this?

hmmmm, what happened to the $250 stimulus money for Vets & Social Security folks that was broadcast 6 months ago… ?
Has that changed in lieu of this Tax plan ? I feel deceived, because ‘they’ haven’t been upfront about it. Or.. am I just being overly suspicious of the ‘most transparent Govt in history’.

  29. why not just raise minimum wage to about 11 or 12 dollars an hour and give everyone a break on taxes every year. Make it to were people on disability could get some sort of return at the end of the year, so that way everyone wins. I know how it is to grow up on 8 or 9 hundred dollars a month, it’s very hard or nearly impossible, it takers around 6 hundred dollars a month to keep food on the table for my family, its rediculous. my husband and i work every day and still live paycheck to paycheck. If the bigwigs had to walk in every ones shoes that knows what the value of a dollar is and has to work on a job making minimum wage i think alot of things would change, but right now nothing is going to change untill america can come together and open their eyes.. and i dont see that happening because everyone is only out to get whats theirs and whats coming to them, only worried about their selves, they are blinded by their own light….OPEN YOUR EYES AMERICA, TURN OF THE LIGHTS!!! thank everyone for your time.

What about all those cars that were traded for the $4500 off on new cars for those who could afford the payments> I know a lot of people on SS, SSA, SSI, working mothers who take the bus to jobs and have to take their kids grocery shopping, etc., so many people, who would have loved to been able to buy those old cars for a low cost. I am all for the environment, but the waste of all those cars makes me sick.
By the way, here in Washington State, a mother with 2 kids on Public Assistance received $450 a month in 1980. Know what a mother with 2 kids get now? $450. Often not their faults they are on assistance: dead-beat dads and no jobs.
I am on disability and worked hard until I became disabled. I would have used the Stimulus Check to get the title transfered and tabs for the $600 car I saved for. One that would have been junked if the owner had the money/credit to buy a new one.
Still, I believe in Obama. Bush got us here. Lets give Obama some time to get us out. Hey, he’s only been in office for a year. Bush was there for 4.
Also, all you people who can’t spell or use spell-check and have bad grammar……you are who gets the jobs the overqualified can’t get. Consider yourself lucky, you don’t have Student Loans to pay off.

Got something to say?
