The 2010 stimulus check is set to help over 90% of Americans, but how will this affect you? The changes operated after the implementation of the stimulus have shown themselves clearly in 2009 by way of the stimulus check a high percentage of citizens have received, but its continuation in 2010 will be a bit different. The way in which the stimulus will work consists in a decrease in federal taxes, which will manifest itself through increases in average Americans’ paychecks.


But how do you know you qualify for this generalized federal tax deduction that is part of the government’s stimulus package and how should you go about receiving what the government is offering you, like a 2010 stimulus check ? First of all, in order to qualify, you must be paying social security; this means you have to be employed (or self-employed), i.e. you must be working and paying taxes. You must also make sure that your income does not exceeded the amount of $95,000 per year, or, if you are married and wish to submit a joint stimulus consideration request, then the joint income of the two applicants mustn’t exceed $190,000 per year. You must also keep in mind that certain restrictions to the federal tax cut the stimulus will grant you apply if your annual intake exceeds $75,000 or if you and your spouse’s joint annual income exceeds $150,000.


The federal tax deduction comprised in the stimulus will put in (or rather, not take out of) your pocket the sum of $400 (or for a joint application a total of $800). This is money the government normally would have taken out of your salary that you are now allowed to keep. It’s the same amount you will receive in 2009, only divided along 12 months instead of 9. This, in case you meet all the requirements and benefit from the full tax deduction. The amount of the deduction will be smaller depending on where you stand on the annual income chart. You will not be receiving a check in the mail or a check from your employer to mark the stimulus tax cut, but rather, you will be receiving an extra few dollars every month on top of what you’ve been earning so far. Those with maximal benefits from the stimulus will cash an extra $33 every month for the duration of the 2010 stimulus check thanks to the stimulus plan. That means that if you are filing for the federal tax deduction with someone else, together you will receive $66 every month.

If you are working two jobs and qualify for the federal tax cut, you will probably need to be extra careful. As it turns out, you stand to get a tax deduction on both paychecks, which means that you that you have double benefits, which unfortunately isn’t possible. Even if you are working two jobs, you only qualify for one share of the stimulus plan, which means that if you receive the something extra on your paychecks from both jobs, you will either have to notify one of your employers instructing them to desist, or you will be required to return the extra money after the end of the fiscal year.


The tax deductions that accompany the stimulus plan are meant to make it easier to navigate through the economic crisis, for the hard working Americans who find themselves having difficulty keeping up with the ever changing economic climate. While it might not seem like much on a grand scale, the federal tax deduction comprised in the 2010 stimulus check can make things a lot easier for many of those who are struggling to make ends meet.

    Ok so I hear everyone bitching and complaning about money money money I HATE MONEY i really do it seems to make things so much harder in life. Yes you have to buy alot of things to get by in life soap, shampoo, laundry soap, ect. but do it the smart way my parents make us a happy family cause they have really learned a way to budget there money so we can all get what we need not all the time what we want. we are a family of 6 me my two brothers one still in diapers my parents and my disabled grandfather that doesn’t getting any income what so ever. we pay 325 for power 55 for garbage 68 for water and a 1,000 for rent and my dad is the only one working and he only makes 10.00 an hour so yeah why don’t you all try and figure that out oh and we have cable 99 cell phone 99 and car insurance 108 and gas @ 2.95 a gallon and grocery’s about 200 a week mom comes up with some of the greatiest meal idea’s for cheap. you all should look and cheapmeals.com well i really hope everyone makes it in this world today

    I am a single mom of 3 children. Two which have disabilities, and a lot of medical issues. I also do not get child support or any other assistance other than SSI for my children and Medicaid. I work a job that pays me 10 bucks an hour and barley puts food on the table. I pay the bills with my children’s SSI money. We don’t have anything but the necessities. I have a car that breaks down on me all the time. I find it funny how people feel there owed things. When did it become this way for people to treat others like dog crap. I do not use the system that is in place for people like me and I am still managing. My kids don’t know there missing out on things because we are a family and love each other and we do the simple things in life that are free. Like going to the park. I think people have lost there minds. I pay into taxes and don’t even make enough money. I don’t have my hand out, but I sure have paid into it so why do I not deserve a break now and again?!?

    Well, after reading the posts here and seeing a lot of crying and whining about why this and why that, here’s my take on it. I work a full time job, for now. What has caused the mess we’re in right now? Everybody clamoring for the “government to DO something” about this and that. What ever happened to getting off your OWN ass and doing something? Look back at the Katrina mess. What happened there? NOBODY bother to try to help themselves and EVERYBODY blamed Bush for it. Neither the DEMOCRAT Mayor, nor the DEMOCRAT Governor did anything to get those folks out of N.O. before it hit. Neither did the folks in N.O. bother to get off their butts and head for safer ground. Nope, they all sat there and waited for that hand-out they’ve all gotten so used to. How the hell did Americans survive the last depression? We didn’t have welfare and disability then. We didn’t have food stamps back then, They did it by getting off their collective asses and helping themselves.

    Now that I’ve gotten that off my chest, here’s my position. Like I said, I work a full-time job, for now. I’ve seen way too many jobs go overseas, Why? Because the GOVERNMENT gives big business tax breaks to out-sourse OUR jobs! I hear all the claptrap about jobs lazy Americans won’t do. Well, who did those jobs BEFORE all the illegals showed up? The reason I won’t pick lettuce is the job no longer pays enough to make it. I made $32,000.00 last year, BEFORE taxes. Let’s see our famous political types live on MY income. When the electric bill is over $200; groceries for two of us runs around $100 a week and that is NOT eating steak and caviar either; gas for the vehicle today is $2.65 a gallon; gotta have insurance on the vehicle too, that’s near $50 a month; gotta have a roof over our heads and that’s a single wide, old model mobile home we rent for $400 a month because the “median” housing price these days is over $175,000.00 and on my income, we don’t qualify for one. Oh, my health insurance at work is over $500.00 a month too.

    What’s wrong with America you ask? We pay our politicians, entertainers, and sports players MILLIONS of $$$ to do squat. Out business hand out multi-million $$$ salaries to their execs. along with hefty bonuses and take bailout $$$ from the govt. We working class folks are barely able to survive and all we hear is, “Why can’t you make it on what I pay you?” Well, moron, YOU live on what YOU pay me to make YOUR salary and then we’ll talk.

    I heard the rebellious talks about low-income people, the concerns about social security benefits, and the hype from those without any education. The real facts of the matter is, everyone is looking at what someone else has; yet, we’re not all on the same page. I’m a very hard worker and a university student. Tuition costs have risen, gas prices are higher, and public transportation and parking fees have increased. This economic turn about who’s right and who’s wrong will never end until education amongst us all is taken seriously, that is, including foreign demands about their educational levels because its costing too much to do day to day activities, run businesses, and now adays even visit or taking a vacation is a security issue. Who runs the U.S. anyway? I pay rent, transportation expenses, utilities, college tuition and expenses, I even donate extra money to fire, police, and cancer associations, yet, I can’t afford to pay medical coverage, I can’t afford a vacation and have never been out of the state of Michigan except to a furneral. The crime here in Michigan is so much so, that I ride the public transporation to eliminate the high cost of car repairs when vandals destroy my property and steal from me. Let me make it to Washington, DC to sit as a representative of my state, to implement laws, and bills, and speak for the people of my community, for people like me, and for people that have helped me when I couldn’t afford my tuition bills, when I have to make those hard sacrifices, when I had to sit my children down and explain to them the need to cut back on some of our activities and why. If I ever make it to Washington, DC. You won’t see a change but you will see the difference change can make. Here it is, we’ve come implementing child care for those without the help of mothers and sitters now child care laws are tearing families apart. Come on. Washington, DC isn’t a pool of upperclass flunkies like our economy is seemingly to be presented as. There’s Senator Carl Levin, John Conyers, and many others who’ve read the fine lines and no about the red tape. However, from Washington to Michigan, from one ear to the next, from your table to mine, the circumstances are different as well as how Washington might benefit you. So now lobbiest, special interest groups, and folk who only want what’s best for those they know to be well token care of. I’m out here everyday, I see the veterans Washington, DC has forgotten. I see the mothers they blame and forge control over with what is considered as protection. I’ve taken note and account of the number of non-high school graduates making over 10,000 a year and worst these are all the laws and deligated implementations of those who are suppose to represent us not themselves, not their families, not their own causes, not their concerns, everyone. Jobs, we need jobs. Business opportunities. Our banks have changed so many times over the past 10 years and why? Theft. Drugs. Fault. Mismanagement. Lies. Failure. and Mistrust. No law is a just law if it is not a law for all people, for all of Washington, DC, for all involved, for all our sake. Our constitution, our Lady of Liberty, and our families depend on a just duty of equality. It’s not fair to grant 36 million dollars to an auto industry and the CEO writes himself a check for 3 of those millions. It’s not fair to only allow savings opportunity to those who are in well secured jobs and not to those who are struggling to find jobs even if all they have is 150.00 dollars to their entire name. It’s these types of situations and people that need help the most, yet, they’re talked about, shunned upon, laughed at, and taken again and again by theft. There is no rescue only a lonely life and eventually a painful and lonely death. Yet we live by a flag drapped out in stars and stripes, soaring in the sky for life, love, and freedom. Where’s the freedom in job search and actually finding a job irregardless of your crimimal background. Judges implement judgment, it’s take that they take responsibility for some of the economic fault that is considered of its people. The who, what, and where about certain individuals, black, african american, negros, how many names and how many times will we suffer enslavement. How much more will slavery take away the beauty of our true identity, “We the people”. Are jails are full and yet our schools are struggling. Let the truth be told, but for that to happen, Washington, DC would actually have to listen and not look. See the struggles and read it in its light not in these dark days.

    i would like to know if people on ssd or ssi going to get a stimulus check in 2010 since we didn’t get an increase in our disability checks and our medicare went up this year it only seems fair that we do. also if we do how much and when?

    I had sent a comment last Sunday about not being able heat my house,and to sav on electric I live like a bat.Well anyway My girlfriend was homeless and was going to lose he.So for helping her belongens in storage so I told her she could bring them her so she would not lose them.So me being honest I told welfare,that she could stay here if she didn’t have a place to stay.not to sleep in her car.Well my ssi check was cut, and I was only aloud a one time payment of 109.00 from Liheap! I have seen her once in two weeks.She gives me no money for keeping her things here.She helps me when I have to wash or go food shopping.So for helping her out and being honest with the system I got screwed

    Unless a person is making loads of money an hour it is not easy to have enough money to pay for all expenses..especially when children are invovled…my husband has an actual physical disability…he has very little arms and only 4 fingers on each hand…he works 75 hours a week!why?….LIFE!!! i work 35 hours per week…morgage…food…electricity…cable…car payments…oil…gas money…we have 2 children…lets not forget the simple yet overloooked expenses like….shampoo…soap…laundry soap…pet supplys…toilet paper…clothing…blankets and sheets…cleaning supplys….WAIT!!!…now what if when you do have time you would like to do something special with your family?how much will that cost?…WAIT!!!….what about holidays,birthdays and other “special” occasions?GROW UP…ITS LIFE!!!…GO THANK YOUR FATHER!…70 HOURS A WEEK NIS NO PERK LITTLE ONE!!! ITS A TIRING NIGHTMARE…I MISS HIM SOOOO MUCH AND FEEL AWFUL THAT HE WORKS SO MUCH. YOUR DAD WORKS SO MUCH TO PAY FOR YOU!!

    I keep hearing people gripe about people on social securty disability having it good, Well the truth is in my case.
    I get 1100.00 per month, I have to pay for medication, I pay rent, utilities,Dr visits I pay a co payment of $671.00 a month. I have to borrow money every month to catch up. So you figure out how we have it made.

    i think all families are struggling right now were use to having cable cell phones tanning internet now it a part of are every day living , I know lots of people lost there jobs and michelle jobs are hard to find and yes i do work !!!!!!!!!!!!! and raise a family i think we need to ask god to help us not the president their are people that live out in this world with less than what we have and there making it . we just have to find away that we can maybe start helping neighbor friends and family if we work togeher like we have in war and other hard times we should pull out of this like a team not because were fat lazy because were human and gods children that and if it wasn’t for him we wouldn’t be here or have what we have had so lets be team and stop fighting each other on who right and who’s wrong

    It’s funny how everyone is complaining about money. I assume 60% of you people pay an internet bill every month. I assume 70% of you pay for some form of cable television for you or your immediate family to enjoy, and 75% pay a cell phone bill. I’m sure at least 20% of the people posting on here are smokers and another 10% indulge in narcotics or alcohol. Can’t forget about the gym,, hair, nails, and tanning. Take away the luxuries and put that toward the grocery bill. To everyone who has been unemployed to do layoff/medical, havent you heard of saving?? If I, at 16, could save enough for a car and college education working at a shitty restaurant for 2 yrs, i dont see how a person who has worked over a decade cant put SOME funds aside for times of need. I still barely pushing double digits and can afford a roof over my head and full stomach after cutting out the unnecessary expenses. I suggest everyone evaluate what they use in their daily lives and get rid of the things that arent essential to keeping alive before they rant about how they dont have money to AFFORD THINGS THEY DONT NEED in the first place.

    I think that it should be up to the individual to say weather or not they want less federal tax taken out through out the year. I have had very little taken out in 2009, now I have to pay back over $1000 ( and do not know where I will get that from) I lost a $30,000.00 a year job in 2008. I have been working two part time jobs since and am only making $20,000.00. That is a big cut ($10,000.00). Unfortunately my mortgage, insurance, food, gas, electric, phone and medical has not decreased.

    WoW Im amazed at some postings on here .. im not perfect like everyone else here but boy i would love to know where some people get information from.But before i state my opinion i would like to introduce myself.My name is Mirela im 29 years old ..im originaly from Bosnia and came to USA as an imigrant ..now i know a lots of people had impression that Bosnian got everything free when we came to this country which is absolutely not true .We had to do everything like Americans and everyone else here in USA .We worked,paid taxes took credits and bought car and home .I worked way to much overtime lifting old people washing and bathing them for low salary plus on top of that i had to listen to sarcastic people who think i stole their job because im immigrant.I was at a job where i had to work for minimum wages when person (born american) had less schooling and expirience was paid much more.When u see all these Bosnian resoraunts ,shops etc.. don’t let them blind you .. because they went and borowed credit that they probably will never going to pay off because after few years and some money they return home.Sorry but I had to clarify that.Now back to the subject.Like i said im just 29 years old ..worked till May oof last year ..sadly got rare illines by the name systemic scleroderma so after long 5 months without any work i got disability of $793 a month don’t get me wrong im glad i even got that but simply it doesnt cut it.Im so behind Medical bills (71.000 to be exact) since im getting worse and Medicaid don’t cover all my needs Ill have slim chance to live 5 more years so seriously all this stimulos crap doesnt solve nothing if u ask me .. unless like someone said we get 1 million then im sure i could get best posible care and i don’t mind when i get better to go back to work or school .. no doubt about that.33 dollars might feed you for one week then youll end up in same problems.Im also against health reform and mandatory health insuriance because if i cant pay it now how do u expect ill pay it later.All of this is basicly BS to make people believe that they are actually trying to help citizen and some people do buy into it especially when they are having tough times.But if u look around you too that might help clarify some things..we have so many homeless and sick people while billions are spend on BS.Sad !!

    All politicians in the White House got a raise recently, they all have medical insurance, they spend our money like it was their own on unneeded functions like lunchecons and parties..they all get catered to..both parties fighting like
    dogs and cats do nothing to fix the problems americans are facing.
    this recession like no other recession we’ve ever had,, has not been given the
    needed attention by both parties to help the american people out of the nightmare economy we are living..never have I seen in my lifetime so much unbalanced of an economy where prices keep rising, people losing good paying jobs and no increase wages or benefits to offset the rising prices..if it isn’t the food we buy at the store, the oil companies , who have been left untouched by the nigtmare they caused, keep raising thier gasoline and oil prices, with little intervention by our elected political officials..they seem to have taken a predatory
    low profile in all this economic mess they were part of creating with their $6 a gallon of gasoline last year…if anyone should be paying for the mess it is them..
    they should be forced to pay more taxes for the war in the middle east, for the stimulus packages..the government should nationalized all oil companies.
    for the simple reason of keeping our economy stable and for national security…
    why should a small number of CEO’s and investors dictate how much we have to pay at the oil pump,,the government doesn’t care, because they get their share of tax dollars..then they impose higher taxes on us to try to fix an economy that was busted by politicians and big business doing whatever they wanted without any control..I think we should be allowed free twitter to vote instantly on major issues
    we have in this country..it is apparent the elected dummies in the political world are too busy name calling and finger pointing at themselves while nothing gets acccomplished. who needs them…lets all Twitter them all out.

    I was just wondering that since we (the people) who recieve SSI and Disability are getting a stimulus payment this year ecspecially since we don’t get a increase this year as we did in years past??? Also, for those of us parents who have children with “DEAD BEAT DADS” or “DEAD BEAT MOMS” that are suppose to pay “CHILD SUPPORT” and don’t is it possible that we may get a stimulus payment to help us out…this could work and would be greatly appreciated..Thank you concerned single mom who is suppose to get child support and don’t and my children are 13 and 15 and niether dad pays but are suppose too.Also there are parents out there that are suppose to pay but have found a loop hole around this in saying this I mean they go sign up for a Disability check and do get approved therefore they don’t have to pay now go figure..I think even if they recieve SSI or Disability a portion of that should be sent or split-up between or to each parent who has custody of said child/children..Thank you and hope to hear from you soon at the e-mail provided…Tina-Louisville,Kentucky

    Michelle..you say spending 70-80 hours a week working is too much, that people need to get an educaiton to better themselves. Talk to a person who is an active duty member of the military. Trust me, they put in those same hours, in many cases, an 80 hour work week is the rule, not the exception. The other ting here is, if people are lookig for a job, that in and of itself is a full-time job. When I transitioned out of the military, I literally spent 30-40 hours a week sending out resumes, preparing for interviews, searching job openings and anything else I had to do. I am single so in that regard I was lucky. I was able to devote that time to the job search while going to classes. Raising a family and looking for work to keep that family going may not allow for what you obviously consider a measly few hours to go to classes. School is great, yes, but for some, besides cost, it simply cannot be done when you first have to worry about how you are going to support a family

    Wow michelle, you sound angry… more angry than the lady who works 90 hours a week, and she’s the one losing her house… I graduated from college, vp of the honors society and spoke at my graduation. Due to the lack of job opportunities in my chosen field I work at a factory. I bought my house when the market was down, and only had to pay half as much as it appraised for, 85k which is significantly cheaper than most of the houses in this area. If I work 40 hours a week I come in broke at the end of the month… You say people are stupid for working ‘insane’ amounts of hours, and that they should go to school, however, for me to be able to afford school, I’d have to work 20 extra hours of OT a week to be able to afford it. I would then be so exhausted and my hours so long that school wouldn’t be an option. I make ‘too much’ money to get grants for school, and why would I want a loan when my first degree didn’t do shit for me? How about a grant for people like me? I work hard, really hard, and I don’t appreciate being called crazy for trying to keep food on the table, clothes on my body and a roof over my head!

    I worked since I was 16,when I turned 18 I went to nursing school and continued to work till I was 32.My husband came down with liver disease,I Stopped to take care of him.Well he died then I fell down a flight of steps broke several bones and had back surgery.I am now on SSI and can”t afford to heat my house,I keep the lights of f allot to save $ I feel like a bat !That stimulus money would help people outthere just like me.We have $ to send to other countries,but what about us here at home?

    Mr. President I believe you are doing a great job considering the fact that Preisdent Bush was in office for 8 years and he is the one that has cause the world in such turmoil. You know it’s funny as I read what people have to say like oh he not doing what he said he was going to do, and that you need to do this and that. I say what irrgorance people have, people don’t realize that the world is fucked up ecomony everything is fucked up. I haven’t been working going on 7 months and i’m losing my mind, faith and everything but I do know that things take time. Just like it’s going to take time for me to get on my feet it’s going to take time for our president to get the world under control. There is so much to be done with little help, people have different views on fixing the ecomany ad it’s hard to even know where to begin. People have to start taking responsiblity for there on actions and situations ad stop looking for a hand out, if you get one you do if you don’t you don’t but you still have to find away to live and make it everyday.

    i do not like this plan. as it stands because of this plan i will have to pay in some money now, because for the last four months they did not withhold anything and barely withheld before hand. i have never had to pay in, i don’t care for this plan and i think it needs to go back to how it use to be. i am proud of where i work and i work hard for my money. so if any one cares they would go with me and ask to have this stupid plan take away.

    this year the government I so dearingly worked to support all hese years sent a letter (((there will be no increse on my ssi because of no rise in the cost of living hike ))) guess what my bills keep going up ! gorcerys are twice the price as last month gawdoline is going up to 269 asd it was 227 `this just confurmes the rich keep gettin tricher and we all keep gettin fuc*ed by the ones we place our trust in

    OK…I’m pretty damn sure that obama doesn’t think he’s god for one….another…i’m sorry but if someone ACTUALLY depended i mean fully depended on a job where they were working 70-90 hours a week (which is absolutely, insanely ridiculous) you’re just plain stupid. Sorry..not puttin it to ya lightly!! A regular full time job in all of America is classified as FORTY HOURS A WEEK. That is normal..anything above that is a perk. Does everyone understand that? OK…third….you have no freakin business working that much a damn week if you are raising a family!!!!! Does your family even see you at all??? You have no right to complain. And personally I think that alot of people in this world are so lazy!!!! I am in the medical field and all I see people do are sit on their lazy butts, get obese and complain about not having a job when they could at least be going back to school while they take the gov’t’s unemployment money!!! There’s soo much financial aid out there for school! And you can very easily go to a community college….take night classes….THAT WAY…if you are going to be gone 70-90 hours a week and away from ur family its to BETTER yourself! My dad works long hard hours and my mom hates it and i hate it for my mom. and what does he have to show for it? a nice house and ALOT OF GRAY HAIRS!!! Only freakin doctors or politicians or ppl like that making insane amts of money should spend that much time at their job bc if they’re gonna make a helluva lot they better be puttin sum effort into it!! I am from ohio whom i might add has the worst economy n job situation in the whole US and still managed to have a job and not be on unemployment. and BTW seniors and ppl on disability ARE getting stimulus checks.     Our retirement system automatically lowered the tax schedule in February with out my permission and that same day I went on line and added back in the additional deduction to keep my retirement pay the same. All I can say is there are going to be a lot of disappointed tax filers this spring come April 15th especially if a person is retired and will only receive 1099s and not W-2s . The sad part is a lot of them are the elderly with limited income who do not keep up with the news and shell game going on. Hopefully most of the ones who are surprised are the ones who put this congress and leadership in office. After everyone wakes up and finds that in the old shell game of the hand gives and the hand takes away they will adjust their sights the first Tuesday in November 2010 just as Massachusetts did this past Tuesday.
