The 2010 stimulus check is set to help over 90% of Americans, but how will this affect you? The changes operated after the implementation of the stimulus have shown themselves clearly in 2009 by way of the stimulus check a high percentage of citizens have received, but its continuation in 2010 will be a bit different. The way in which the stimulus will work consists in a decrease in federal taxes, which will manifest itself through increases in average Americans’ paychecks.


But how do you know you qualify for this generalized federal tax deduction that is part of the government’s stimulus package and how should you go about receiving what the government is offering you, like a 2010 stimulus check ? First of all, in order to qualify, you must be paying social security; this means you have to be employed (or self-employed), i.e. you must be working and paying taxes. You must also make sure that your income does not exceeded the amount of $95,000 per year, or, if you are married and wish to submit a joint stimulus consideration request, then the joint income of the two applicants mustn’t exceed $190,000 per year. You must also keep in mind that certain restrictions to the federal tax cut the stimulus will grant you apply if your annual intake exceeds $75,000 or if you and your spouse’s joint annual income exceeds $150,000.


The federal tax deduction comprised in the stimulus will put in (or rather, not take out of) your pocket the sum of $400 (or for a joint application a total of $800). This is money the government normally would have taken out of your salary that you are now allowed to keep. It’s the same amount you will receive in 2009, only divided along 12 months instead of 9. This, in case you meet all the requirements and benefit from the full tax deduction. The amount of the deduction will be smaller depending on where you stand on the annual income chart. You will not be receiving a check in the mail or a check from your employer to mark the stimulus tax cut, but rather, you will be receiving an extra few dollars every month on top of what you’ve been earning so far. Those with maximal benefits from the stimulus will cash an extra $33 every month for the duration of the 2010 stimulus check thanks to the stimulus plan. That means that if you are filing for the federal tax deduction with someone else, together you will receive $66 every month.

If you are working two jobs and qualify for the federal tax cut, you will probably need to be extra careful. As it turns out, you stand to get a tax deduction on both paychecks, which means that you that you have double benefits, which unfortunately isn’t possible. Even if you are working two jobs, you only qualify for one share of the stimulus plan, which means that if you receive the something extra on your paychecks from both jobs, you will either have to notify one of your employers instructing them to desist, or you will be required to return the extra money after the end of the fiscal year.


The tax deductions that accompany the stimulus plan are meant to make it easier to navigate through the economic crisis, for the hard working Americans who find themselves having difficulty keeping up with the ever changing economic climate. While it might not seem like much on a grand scale, the federal tax deduction comprised in the 2010 stimulus check can make things a lot easier for many of those who are struggling to make ends meet.

    Well what about all of us that have not worked and have been looking for work but nothing,what do we get nothing cause if we made so little on out w2 then we cant even file taxs so what is going to happen to a lot of us out here that r not working its like he is only helping the ones that r working and the ones that r not working r losing there homes or have no lights cause they cant pay them or have no heat at all and r cold…WHAT IS THE DEAL WITH THAT.something is wrong he needs to help the ones that have no jobs as well…

    How come the stimulus packages never help the people who need it the most? The poor. The average low income and middle class( if theres a class left), are in debt. We owe some type of debt rather it be a utility bill, credit card, child support,tuition payments etc…. So the balk of the americans who are do to recieve a stimulus payment will be garnished. They will be garnished by the same companys who has already the bail out from the goverment. So that means they are getting a extra slice of the pie, the garnishment and the bail out money. So how can people stimulate the economy without the stimulus payment? All debt should be wiped clean seeing the state the country and the economy is in . ( freedom should be free).

    I called for some info on my SSI and asked about the stimulus money (3/19/2010) and was told as of today NO PAYMENT as of now is instore for us.That is all they said. Have a nice day!

    First off, George Bush is not responsible for Obama’s mistakes. Yes, George Bush had mistakes of his own but he did pretty well for a war breaking out in his first year of office then another war during his term. That is a lot to take on. And Obama needs to go. He is terrible. What kind of president says that a planned terriost attack attempt was probably a accident!! Hello! it was planned! planned things are not an accident. And guess who is paying for his kids to go to a $32000 a year school and vacation in hawaii for $5000 a night! your tax money is paying for it!! He has taken more vacations and been out of the office on travel more than any president has in the past couple of elections! NOBAMA!

    Bail out the banks, bail out big business, and now bail out HMO’s, but ignore the plight of the millions of average Joes struggling from paycheck to paycheck or the senior citizens struggling to keep their homes with ever increasing costs to do so. A nation is judged by the way it treats its elders, and its poor.. Four years should be just about enough time for Obama to undermine our economy, his gas pedal seems to be stuck.

    It is to my understanding and experience in life that leads me to believe that no one in this world owes you anything. There are two types of people on this world… 1.People who make change 2. those who talk about change. Unfortunately for us americans, the people that WE elected to make decisions in our best interests seem to fall into the second catagory of the aformentioned people types. That being said… Its time for people to shut their mouts and open their eyes. If you are unhappy with the direction our government is leading us (as i am) then fight back. Send your congresman a letter. There are flat out just too many people in america for the government to possibly take care of. Take a look at medicare and our national debt. Do u really think that the government can possibly do a better job with healthcare?

    You want to know why this years stimulus is being spread out rather than handed in one lump sum? It is because that was Bush’s idea. Obama spent too much time low balling bush’s presidency to adopt his methods. This stimulus package is a huge fail.

    Also… Cuting taxes on the poor an raising taxes on the wealthy (socialism) will destroy the american dream. You shouldnt be punished for being sucessfull. Example: Imagine for a second what would happen if the NFL charged a winners penalty for every game won, then gave that money to the loosing team. Teams would start training to loose.Untill things get to the point where no one watches nfl anymore thus ending the sport. The same principles apply to government.

    I am one of the people who is raising a family alone and trying to get by. I don’t have a big income, less than 1000/month. That is min wage. It is very hard to live on this income when you have utilities going up every time you turn around. I really think the little bit of money that is given in a paycheck does not mean a thing to most people. It is not something that is noticed much. It also doesn’t help to pay those high electric and gas bills. To help the economy we need jobs out there and lower utilities. We also could use that lump sum money so we dont have things shut off because we can’t make ou money stretch as far. Put a limit on the amount these electric and gas companies can charge for things. It is getting way out of hand. It would be nice to be able to not worry about every little thing and be able to live life with no worries.

    Please people how can you sit and judge one president for the mess that several presidents before him have gotton us into, You sound like the rich now you don’t get everything you want so now you looking for someone to blame, And just for the record I didn’t vote for Obama either but he is the one who put in the stimulus bill if you remember the majority of republicans voted it down if you read your papers and Obama is the one who wants everyone to have better health care so tell me WHY are you so quick to impeach the one who is trying on your benefit, putting his neck out for your butt, don’t judge someone on what you read or hear be sure of everythng before running your mouth, As I said I didn’t vote for Obama, but I am not dissapointed in our president he is doing his best, I am in the same boat as most of you I am dissabled and so is my husband he has cancer that is now in remission but it could appear again at anytime, how would you like our bills, we live on a very small amount of money comming in and have millions of dollars in DR bills we are strugeling to keep our home but we are happy we get up every morning thanking god for each and every moment we have because he could be gone and eventually the bank would have forclosed on our home so I would be without a place to live, so please thank god for everything you have and don’t be so quick to blame otjers for what you don’t have, remember it could be gone in a minute.

    I am a mother of three and I am working 6 days a week and still only make about 1000.00 a month. It is not nearly enough to make it. The state I live are trying to cut out my job as a Nursing Asst. There are families out there worse off than me i know. Jobs are vanishing fast and it is hard to find one. In the past few years they have closed down 4 plus factories here and sent jobs overseas. I think the goverment should make the big wheels pay for transproting our jobs and that money needs to go to the families they have put outta work. WE ALL NEED ALIL HELP!

    I think only giving people the stimulus deal who get 3,000 is stupid cause alot of us get 2,950 or less each year, & saying if you make 3,000 you get 600.00 back or 400.00 back is for the rich people & not us poor ones who have houses that are in need of repairs, what about us!!!!

    Hi, I am the mother of six grown children and 9 grandchildren. In reading a lot of the comments it is clear to me that a lot of people are struggling to make ends meet. I am one of those people that is also struggling. I have been sick for several days now due to recycling cans in 12 degree weather. Currently in Oregon it is 19 degrees. We have “can rooms, or also called “bottle rooms” here in Oregon. Cans are worth 5 cents each. A lot of the time the machines break down and people don’t feel like waiting until someone comes to clear the machines so they leave their cans. Also, some stores won’t take the cans and you have to drive to another store to redeem the cans. Some “can rooms” are outside and that is where the 12 degree weather came in. A few weeks ago I was yelled at by the manager for getting the cans that people threw in the trash or left in their baskets. Again a couple of days ago I was questioned at one of the big box stores about getting cans that were thrown away. She came back with a second person and questioned me again. I had gotten permission from the store manager on Wednesday, March 10, 2010 and from a previous manager that it was okay to get cans that were left by people and thrown away. Even after I told both women I had permission they still stated they would “have to check” to see if it was okay. Seems like they would rather throw away bottles and cans that can be recycled than have it benefit anyone. Sad………………………..
    I’ve worked since I was 16 years old and worked until I became disabled about 8 years ago. Payed into the “system” for many, many, many years!!! My Social Security check is $805. per month. In one of the posts a woman stated she became disabled from another country and only got $793. per month. I’m sure she didn’t pay in for the number of years that I have paid into the “system”. I receive another $121. per month from my estranged husbands VA. I get $99. on food stamps. I don’t smoke, drink, or “do” drugs. I take asprin, that’s it.
    As far as the 2010 stimulus I don’t think retired people or disabled people are going to get anything. I’ve called the White House 202 456-1111 and they state that they can’t comment on “policies”. So much for transparency!!! You can actually talk to a person there that will answer the comment line. The wait time is not very long at all, maybe a few minutes. The only time it took an hour to get through was when they announced about no cost of living adjustment.
    One person who’s idea I really liked was that the govt. should give all seniors over 60 years old $250,000 to “retire”. Instead of the govt. spending so much money on unemployment benefits it would open up a lot of jobs that seniors currently have. Also, I had called the White House and stated on the comment line that there needed to be at least a couple more zeros added to the $250. stimulus that people were expecting. In my lifetime I have worked at 38 jobs, hardly “lazy” as many would label me for not currently being able to work.

    i think we deserve the stimulus check since we didnt get a raise me and my wife only get 1100.00 a month to live on we have to pay rent phone electric gas tv car payment insurance on car ond renters ins. plus buy food and paper products we cant do it on this. just remember obama we voted you in. and you sure can be voted out just as easy.this sucks

    I think that the waste is with the following- My daughter is a manager at a Local mini market, every month when the food stamps come out she say’s things go crazy. familys come in and buy dozen’s of the 2 liter bottles of soda, and made to order meals. (burgers, fries, sub’s -etc) she states some of the orders are well over $100.00. These folkes are purchasing food that is taxed for the normal Joe but because in these cases its paid with food stamps which is government money, no taxes are charged as they would be if it was anyone else paing cash. What a waste … The money spent in this manor could buy plenty of quality food that would be used for more than a one time meal. I know food stamps are controlled by the state and not the federal goverment but lets get real here. Food stamps should be used only in supermarkets and limited to milk, bread, meat and vegtables.

    First of all, I think people should not be greedy and wanting so much money or refunds from the US government. But in this tough economy we can’t help but to be a little greedy and looking out for our self and family.

    With so many people being laid off from work, collecting unemployment,ect…it’s really tough to keep up with our bills and putting foods on the table. And to top it off the cost of living is so high and the pays are too low these days.

    I think what should happen is that the government or perhaps “President Obama” should make a decision where ALL of the low income families should be getting at least an annual “Stimulus check”. That check can help them to pay for their bills,foods,clothes,ect…believe me it does make a huge difference in their life. And deducted less taxes for the low incomes.

    In addition, the “Upper class” should be paying more taxes then the lower or middle class. And the government should use that money and pay to the lower or middle class for their “annual Stimulus check.” I believe that is fairer then fair! Although life is not always fair, but it will help a lot of those who needed help. The rich always going to be richer, how about the poor who is struggling trying to survive and feeding their family?     It amazes me how people feel that President Obama should be able to wave a magic stick and everything will be fixed. All the issues that we are having did not start when he got into office. It took years for the damage to be done and it will take years for it to be fixed. he is not the worst President in history but some people have views that go deeper than just what he is doing as our President.
