2010 Stimulus check

October 31, 2009

The 2010 stimulus check is set to help over 90% of Americans, but how will this affect you? The changes operated after the implementation of the stimulus have shown themselves clearly in 2009 by way of the stimulus check a high percentage of citizens have received, but its continuation in 2010 will be a bit different. The way in which the stimulus will work consists in a decrease in federal taxes, which will manifest itself through increases in average Americans’ paychecks.

But how do you know you qualify for this generalized federal tax deduction that is part of the government’s stimulus package and how should you go about receiving what the government is offering you, like a 2010 stimulus check ? First of all, in order to qualify, you must be paying social security; this means you have to be employed (or self-employed), i.e. you must be working and paying taxes. You must also make sure that your income does not exceeded the amount of $95,000 per year, or, if you are married and wish to submit a joint stimulus consideration request, then the joint income of the two applicants mustn’t exceed $190,000 per year. You must also keep in mind that certain restrictions to the federal tax cut the stimulus will grant you apply if your annual intake exceeds $75,000 or if you and your spouse’s joint annual income exceeds $150,000.

The federal tax deduction comprised in the stimulus will put in (or rather, not take out of) your pocket the sum of $400 (or for a joint application a total of $800). This is money the government normally would have taken out of your salary that you are now allowed to keep. It’s the same amount you will receive in 2009, only divided along 12 months instead of 9. This, in case you meet all the requirements and benefit from the full tax deduction. The amount of the deduction will be smaller depending on where you stand on the annual income chart. You will not be receiving a check in the mail or a check from your employer to mark the stimulus tax cut, but rather, you will be receiving an extra few dollars every month on top of what you’ve been earning so far. Those with maximal benefits from the stimulus will cash an extra $33 every month for the duration of the 2010 stimulus check thanks to the stimulus plan. That means that if you are filing for the federal tax deduction with someone else, together you will receive $66 every month.

If you are working two jobs and qualify for the federal tax cut, you will probably need to be extra careful. As it turns out, you stand to get a tax deduction on both paychecks, which means that you that you have double benefits, which unfortunately isn’t possible. Even if you are working two jobs, you only qualify for one share of the stimulus plan, which means that if you receive the something extra on your paychecks from both jobs, you will either have to notify one of your employers instructing them to desist, or you will be required to return the extra money after the end of the fiscal year.

The tax deductions that accompany the stimulus plan are meant to make it easier to navigate through the economic crisis, for the hard working Americans who find themselves having difficulty keeping up with the ever changing economic climate. While it might not seem like much on a grand scale, the federal tax deduction comprised in the 2010 stimulus check can make things a lot easier for many of those who are struggling to make ends meet.

I AM REALLY SOO CONFUSED ARE WE GETTING STIMULUS CHECKS OR IS IT THE EARNED INCOME TAX CREDIT THAT WE GOT REPLACING THEM WHAT ABOUT THE PEOPLE WHO COLLECT DISABILITY SEEING AS HOW I HAVE FAMILY IN THAT BOAT WHO DONT KNOW IF THEY ARE GETTING ONE EITHER?

  4. I read that there is not going to be a 250.00 check this year. Does anyone have the truth

  5. Tina Hatfield on April 12, 2010 at 10:18 pm

This is insane. Putting it in our checks is stupid. Aren’t we just going to end up paying taxes on the stimulus money we are supposed to be getting back. By the end of the year we will get probably half of it. I need a lump sum check not $20 here and there that I won’t even notice because I have much higher bills to pay than $20. How about you rich, arrogant asshole politicians give us the money we deserve, because you guys damn sure don’t deserve what you get paid. Cut their pay in half and that would take care of a lot of the problems this “so called” wonderful country is in.

  6. This is pile of bull. My wife made 24,000 in 2009; we have no dependents, and they took less out her check, maybe around $15 every two weeks. Upon doing her taxes (My income was from a small business that made no profit after deductions) we owe $285.00. It looks to me like you get to pay it back at tax time. Just more Obamaminomics. We’ve been Obamanated and so will everyone else be Obamanated. The only real tax cut we ever got was from George Bush. They called Nixon Tricky Dicky. It’s time to start calling this joker Slick Barry.

  7. If I am on ssdi will I receive a cheque.

    thank you

  8. personally i think we should receive a stimulus check for the year of 2010. i live pay check to pay check with to kids five and four year s old and we live in a small town i rarely eat i always feed my kids they have breakfast lunch and dinner and some snacks so maybe if we get a 2010 stimulus check maybe i could least get a meal once a day

  9. anarcy all the way betches

  10. Obama needs to be “IMPEACHED” he is scewing everything up especially since the democrats voted now on “COLA” to social security recipients.

The health bill is going to ruin the economy further, and all of Obama’s promises are a bunch of lies and deceit.

give the people a cost of living increase and give the people the $250 check, considering all of the money they gave to the corporations and the money a lot of these politicians pocketed for them selves, HEY OBAMA REMEMBER ACORN?.

OK, I see two things here. People talking about the people on SSI or disability not getting anything. And the the people that work getting very little through each paycheck. However, if you really look at it, you’re not getting anything. Think about it this way. How many people out there at the end of the year do not owe anything in taxes and get a full tax refund of all federal income taxes paid out in the year? I know both me and my fiance do. We both work only one job, and rent a cheap apartment. We both get all federal taxes paid back, and then some for our daughter. So really, when it come to this economic stimulus thing, we really aren’t getting anything. Cause what they are offering in taking less federal taxes out of each check only equals out to federal taxes we would have gotten back at the end of the year to begin with. Nothing extra for “stimulus”…..just food for thought that came to my mind.

  12. you all need to straight out the system so we can get a raise like we use to ok.

I am 40 years old and I think I will never understand how our Goverment works. The rich get richer, the working class suffers and the poor stay poor. I don’t understand why they call this a recession, it seems more like a depression to me. Our President was elected by us, why not help the working class people who put him there in the first place? Why do they choose to keep bailing out these large banks, giving them our hard earned money, only to see them pat themselves on the back and hand each other ridiculous amounts of money as “bonuses!” It is time for a change Mr. President, instead of bailing out them money hungry crooks, and they steal legally, it is time to help the working class. We need a bailout Mr. President, why not give that money to the American working class? Don’t you think if every working American was handed 100,000 or more the economy will rise? Give us the money and tax us, as you do with everything, and watch how business will flourish and prosper, how new jobs will be created because a business will see a lot more customers. How money that is ours will be cycled through the system and everyone comes out a winner. Rich stay rich, middle class will be debt free, poor will rise and more jobs will be created, thus making Unemployment checks not needed anymore. The Goverment keeps that extra money and Americans are happy!

  15. Giving us 30 some dollars more on our paychecks every month but not changing the Federal deduction when we file our end of year taxes is crazy………Those of us that do not have any family deductions end up paying it all back to the Federal goverment. How does that make sense. We have to re-do our W4’s to take the extra $30 out every month so we don’t end up paying at the end of the year.

  16. I would like to know if we “are or are not” going to get a stimulas check . I also have had rumors to this effect.(both yeses and noes. Which is it? If anyone knows for certain would you please contact me and let me know.

  17. I don’t understand why is the goverment doing the same $^%& than last year when it don’t work. They stopped taking money out of my husband check for federal but so we didnt pay nothing the since April 09 and when we went to do our taxes we were expecting a better refund that what we got. And we really didnt see nothing pay check to paycheck. A lot of people actually got double wammy because both were working so when they went to do taxes they were told they owed part of the money because both got credit. A lot of people got messed up, this is no help to the middle class. The other presidents knew better and a check is better than that c#$%p of less taxes on the pay checks. The goverment keeps on bailin the big corporations and we are the ones that have to do it but nothing is done for us. I have been unemployeed for a year and still no job. Companies want to pay little to nothing because they know people are desperate and the goverment is not doing nothing. Un top of that credit goes down with not being employeed so companies wont hire either but we dont get bailed out.

  18. I still don’t understand. If we are on SS or disability, do we get a stimulus this year or not

  19. I agree with Kathy…those stimulus checks helped and we should have been able to make our own decisions as to if we wanted them in our checks or the usual way we had been getting them. Trust that i add each and every check hour by hour and minute by minute and i do not see where the extra was added. All i received is what i earned hourly.

  20. when are we gitting owr stimulus check

  21. I’m confused. I thought that because Congress voted down the chance for S.S, recipients to get the 250.00 Stimulus checks, we were not going to get them. Does anyone know for certain if we are getting the 250.00 now, or not? I heard answers for both yes, we are and then no, we are not. I live in Connecticut and am tring to find out “for sure” whether seniors are getting the stimulus checks this year, or not because Congress voted it down in March 2010. Does anyone out there have reliable information on this issue? Thank you kindly, Beth

  22. i ALSO AGREE WE SHOULD GET A CHOICE THE CHECKS HELPED. I DONT SEE ANYTHING MORE IN MY PAYCHECKS IT DONT EVEN BUY DINNER FOR 1 NIGHT . I LIVE PAYCHECK PAYCHECK. 1 CHECK WOULD MAKE A BIG DIFFERENCE . AND TO HELP THE POOR WE NEED A WAY TO CLEAR OUR DEPTS AND START FRESH

  23. I say “why did the government give all the money to the blood sucking companies that messed up their own finances with their big bonus checks, etc” They took the money and still paid out the bonus checks. Why, Mr Obama, did you not take “our” money and divide it out to “EVERY” American(over the age of 16) in this country? Do you have any idea the number of dollars we would have received and spent, putting it back into the economy? This would have allowed everyone the opportunity to go out pay their bills so companies don’t close, purchase needed items (i.e. cars, homes, clothing, groceries, medication, etc.) thereby keeping businesses open. Creating jobs to construct the homes& cars, and fill the selves at the stores. Would this not also have stimulated the economy? Is that not what stimulus means? But instead of helping the working people in this country, provided homes, food, & much needed medical care for those living on the few hundred dollars they receive each month from SSI and government assistance, you gave “our” money to the huge corporations to fill their bank accounts, buy their 2nd or 3rd home to vacation in, their extra sports cars to play in, and expect that to stimulate. The only stimulating I witnessed was that of anger for the way the whole process was handled. I suppose you expect us all to bow down and kiss youe feet for the few dollars we did receive. Sorry, but it won’t happen from this person. The only feet I will kiss are the ones that will help remove you from home you currently occupy. You know the one the working class Americans are paying to keep up and remodel with each new occupant.

  24. Disabled Mother on March 25, 2010 at 5:47 am

I might would understand receiving $33 a month less on taxes, IF I was able to work, BUT I’m not….which means that I won’t be receiving anything. It’s really dificult to live off the little that I receive every month on disability. Please understand that I’m very thankful for what I do get, but I could definitely use an extra stimulus check of $250 to help pay for groceries, utilities(which my light bill of almost $700 is such a big part of), and prescriptions….that I can’t afford to take all of because the co-pays are too high and we can’t get help because my husband does work which after being laid off for 11 months and now has to drive and hour and half too, but we are very thankful for or we wouldn’t be able to survive. I don’t begrudge anyone that deserves it, but for the ones that just keep taking and taking from the ones like myself….it makes it harder and harder just to wake up everyday!

  25. Not everyone can get the “stimulus” and there will be no increases on our Social Security for at least the next 2 years, but, our Medicare payments increase, and our drug payments increase and fuel is increasing, and our food stamps are decreasing. The reason all this is happening is because Congress voted themselves a very large increase in pay. And, they are not going to have to be on this health care that Obama is so obsessed with passing, knowing that the Americans are not happy with it. And, Obama and his wife have all these vacations they must take, and all these fancy shoes she pays $600.00 for, and the tacky clothes she wears, and all the people she must have to be the 1st Lady–Lady???? Anyway, that is why we want the Stimulus, tiny it may be. What about those who are on disability? We can’t work, so no stimulus for us. I say let’s make sure in November that we are heard when we go to vote.

  26. ScrabbleDaddy on March 23, 2010 at 2:20 pm

These stimulus checks are to be going only to those collecting Social Security, Disability, or SSI payments. This means those checks will only be going to those 62yrs of age or older who have applied for Social Security, and those that are in some way disabled, or for medical reasons unable to work full time.

  27. michael ainsworth on March 23, 2010 at 11:41 am

Well when it comes to a tax refund, you are getting taxed earnings, that you yourself earned, refunded. Therefore, if you are out of a job and don’t make any money for the federal government, you should not get a check. Also, the thought process on giving out ’stimulus checks’ (which were for a purpose of stimulating the economy) to the poor is that they would use it for the things you suggested, bills, bills and bills, which does not actually “stimulate” the economy. Ironically, I spent my stimulus check last year on some weed, but to be fair, I was keeping the money in my community which further down the line probably was siphoned into the US economy. (drug dealers buy TVs and fast food and stuff right?)(also supporting my friendly Mexican marijuana farmer)

I’m in no way advocating leaving the poor out in the cold, we should do all we can to help them, but stimulus checks and tax rebate checks are for those who contribute their earned money to the government, they aren’t giving us “free money”. If you cant get a job join the military, they give out tons of money and ALWAYS have a “Now Hiring” sign on their door. The fact is, there is an option besides unemployment yet people make excuses day in and day out while living on Uncle Sam’s(i.e other Americans) dime.

are we going to get the $250 stimulus check in may or when will we get it by.

  29. David Scott Horton on March 22, 2010 at 4:32 pm

I am drawing social security disability, a fund that I paid into for my 30 years that I worked. In 2010, there was no increase for social security recipients. Now I find out there is no economic stimulus check for people who didn’t file taxes. Thank you Mr. Obama for knocking me out of my wheel chair and then pissing in my face. Enjoy your brief stay in the White House. This is what happens when people elect an inexperienced dreamer to the most powerful job in the world. By the way, $400 would just about cover a year of prescription copays for me.

  30. THERE IS A NEED FOR A SECOND STIMULUS CHECK! A 30 OR 15 DOLLAR A MONTH INCREASE IN PAY NO ONE WILL SEE IT, IT IS BETTER ONE LUMP SUM THE WORKING TAX PAYER PAYED FOR IT WHY NOT GET IT BACK IT IS OUR MONEY ANYWAY, AND IT IS BADLY NEEDED WHY CAN NO ONE SEE THAT FIRST . EVERY ONE NEED TO STOP BLAMING EACH OTHER AND START HELPING THE POOR HARD WORKING CLASS. SO IT IS TIME FOR THAT CHECK!!!!!!!!

Got something to say?
