Hi, I am the mother of six grown children and 9 grandchildren. In reading a lot of the comments it is clear to me that a lot of people are struggling to make ends meet. I am one of those people that is also struggling. I have been sick for several days now due to recycling cans in 12 degree weather. Currently in Oregon it is 19 degrees. We have “can rooms, or also called “bottle rooms” here in Oregon. Cans are worth 5 cents each. A lot of the time the machines break down and people don’t feel like waiting until someone comes to clear the machines so they leave their cans. Also, some stores won’t take the cans and you have to drive to another store to redeem the cans. Some “can rooms” are outside and that is where the 12 degree weather came in. A few weeks ago I was yelled at by the manager for getting the cans that people threw in the trash or left in their baskets. Again a couple of days ago I was questioned at one of the big box stores about getting cans that were thrown away. She came back with a second person and questioned me again. I had gotten permission from the store manager on Wednesday, March 10, 2010 and from a previous manager that it was okay to get cans that were left by people and thrown away. Even after I told both women I had permission they still stated they would “have to check” to see if it was okay. Seems like they would rather throw away bottles and cans that can be recycled than have it benefit anyone. Sad………………………..
I’ve worked since I was 16 years old and worked until I became disabled about 8 years ago. Payed into the “system” for many, many, many years!!! My Social Security check is $805. per month. In one of the posts a woman stated she became disabled from another country and only got $793. per month. I’m sure she didn’t pay in for the number of years that I have paid into the “system”. I receive another $121. per month from my estranged husbands VA. I get $99. on food stamps. I don’t smoke, drink, or “do” drugs. I take asprin, that’s it.
As far as the 2010 stimulus I don’t think retired people or disabled people are going to get anything. I’ve called the White House 202 456-1111 and they state that they can’t comment on “policies”. So much for transparency!!! You can actually talk to a person there that will answer the comment line. The wait time is not very long at all, maybe a few minutes. The only time it took an hour to get through was when they announced about no cost of living adjustment.
One person who’s idea I really liked was that the govt. should give all seniors over 60 years old $250,000 to “retire”. Instead of the govt. spending so much money on unemployment benefits it would open up a lot of jobs that seniors currently have. Also, I had called the White House and stated on the comment line that there needed to be at least a couple more zeros added to the $250. stimulus that people were expecting. In my lifetime I have worked at 38 jobs, hardly “lazy” as many would label me for not currently being able to work.

i think we deserve the stimulus check since we didnt get a raise me and my wife only get 1100.00 a month to live on we have to pay rent phone electric gas tv car payment insurance on car ond renters ins. plus buy food and paper products we cant do it on this. just remember obama we voted you in. and you sure can be voted out just as easy.this sucks

I think that the waste is with the following- My daughter is a manager at a Local mini market, every month when the food stamps come out she say’s things go crazy. familys come in and buy dozen’s of the 2 liter bottles of soda, and made to order meals. (burgers, fries, sub’s -etc) she states some of the orders are well over $100.00. These folkes are purchasing food that is taxed for the normal Joe but because in these cases its paid with food stamps which is government money, no taxes are charged as they would be if it was anyone else paing cash. What a waste … The money spent in this manor could buy plenty of quality food that would be used for more than a one time meal. I know food stamps are controlled by the state and not the federal goverment but lets get real here. Food stamps should be used only in supermarkets and limited to milk, bread, meat and vegtables.

I think the USA is going to get worst before it gets better. The governorment is an organized corp. everything that is going on is well planned. Nothing we say is going to matter so we have to stick it out n learn to survive. All they care about is there careers and relationships with other countries.

iI AM DISABLED AND I LIVE ON MY SSI AND SS EACH MONTH ITS NOT ENOUGH BUT I DON’T WANT TO BRAG ABOUT MY CHECKS I ONLY WANT TO KNOW WHEN WILL THE STIMULIUS CHECKS WILL BE MAILED OUT AND HOW MUCH WILL I BE GETTING ITS HARD TO LIVE LIKE IM LIVING MY HUSBAND HAS BEEN SEARCHING FOR WORK AND THEIR IS NOTHING WHAT CAN WE DO OUR BILLS ARE PILLING UP EACH MONTH AND ITS A STRUGGLE TO JUST PUT FOOD ON MY TABLE I PRAY EACH NIGHT ASKING GOD TO WATCH OVER OUR COUNTRY AND THEN I SAY A PRAYER FOR OUR PRESIDENT AND HIS FAMILY I HOPE AND PRAY TO GOD THAT SOMETHING COMES ALONG THAT WE DON’T HAVE TO SUFFER WAITING ON THE BILLS TO BE PAID.
