250$ Social Security Stimulus Check in 2010

The US government is taking every measure to revive the economy and bring it out of the recession. President Obama has said that there will be a Social Security Stimulus Check in 2010 for $250. However, the final decision for this special measure is up to the congress. They should approve bill H.R.3557 – To provide an emergency cost-of-living increase for Social Security benefits for 2010 in their next session. This will be a bonus and will cost the government about $13 billion. The last couple of years has seen the worst slowdown in all the markets including the housing and financial markets which has caused a lot of problems to the economy. By the distribution of the social security stimulus check in 2010 the government hopes to stimulate the markets and the economy and the slowdown can be reversed.


Any individual who is at present receiving payment from Social Security is eligible for the Social Security stimulus check in 2010. Other people who will be eligible are veterans who are disabled, SSI (Supplement Security Income) recipients, and retired federal government employees. The retired employees of federal government who reside in states where social security is not received, even they will get this check. All these people will get the $250 check irrespective of their income level and whether they are working or not. The other people who are eligible to get the social security stimulus check in 2010 are the ones who have an income which is not taxable. If for some reasons these people are able to earn a taxable income after the receipt of this check then they will have to return it to the government or deduct the amount from the refund on federal tax.

The Social Security stimulus check is proposed to be paid by 31st March 2010. The mode of receipt of this check will be the same as how you get your usual payment of Social Security. If its made by check through the mail you will also get this check by mail. If you are getting an electronic payment directly into your bank account then the $250 will be directly paid into your account.

Calculation of Social Security monthly pay check amounts are based on the cost of living. Due to the recession this has not seen any rise, and this check is something to compensate for the same prevailing amount. This additional pumping of funds is supposed to boost the economy and also help the people who receive Social Security in general. It has been seen that Social Security forms an important source of income for a retiree and he receives about $1,150 per month. If you take the statistics, social security amounts, form 40% of all the income of elderly people put together. For one fifth of elderly married couples social security forms almost ninety percent of their income and for two fifths of the elderly singles as well.


The Social Security Stimulus Check which will be sent in 2010 for $250 can help to pay part of any of your debts especially credit cards. Although the amount is not much it will reduce your debt and your interest payments to that extent.

    i have already received my social security check for november 2010. still no refund check. what happened? i do not know of any person that has received the 250.00 fefund. i would like some answers– please am i ever going to get the refund check? if so when?

    im 83 years old worked all my life fi retired @62 for 1 month went back to work untill 75 i get a lousy 695 a month and while i went back to work i pd social security if social was just pd to people who pd it in it wouldnt be broke we wouldnt have to suffert

    I havent gotten a cost of living raise in 2 years and i didnt get a stimulus check this year or last year what is going on.Doesnt the elder mean anything to our goverment anymore

    My mother told me that the people in PR got there check and it was $400.00 to one person and $800.00 for a couple. They got it last month so where is our check and why are we only getting $250.00 and they are getting $400.00 to $800.00. Are we getting the check or not we can used the money being we are not getting a increase next year. If we are not getting the check than we should get a increase in our check.

    I came to this website to see if I could find out why we haven’t received the checks that President Obama signed for us to get back in February which said we were supposed to receive them by the 31st of March. What do I find though is people bashing the president. What I wonder though is their beef because he is a bad president or because he is black or because he has a different religion than they do. I wonder if Mrs Clinton thought it was a measely sex scandle–I think not. The last president left a mess for President Obama to clean up and take it from me you don’t give a house a good house cleaning in a day. It takes time to get things done and he’s not the only one making decisions. I imagine if a closer look was made into the lives of the complainers they might have a few ghosts in their closets. I was always told to not put someone down until you’ve walked a mile in their shoes. I still haven’t found anything out about the checks so I will keep looking.

    Today is October 10, 2010 – If this stimulus check was supposed to be paid by 31st March 2010, I still haven’t seen it. And why did I read a report by Stephen Ohlemacher from Associated Press reported that 72,000 stimulus payments went to dead people? The article indicated that “People were eligible for payments if they were getting benefits during any one of the three months before the law was passedin February 2009.” Again, I repeat, I still haven’t seen my check. I know the post office is slow in mailing things, but this is ridiculous.

    I cannot believe how you all are so critical of President Obama, he’s seems to have the interest of all the American Citizens at heart. In times past we have Presidents who were only concerned with a certain few and low income, middle income, seniors and youth were left out. Now there is some one who thinks of everyone and you all so doggone ciritcal. You all don’t even give him the respect by calling him “President Obama”. It is certainly not his fault that the economy is in the shape it is in, if you recall he inherited all the problems of the past administration. And unless we spend money we won’t be able to come out of this mess. There were a lot problems when he took office, but he has done a lot to help the American people and if you would stop focusing on what he hasn’t done but thank God that things are not as bad as they could be had he not done the things he’s done to keep the economy afloat.

    I think that it’s time for the ones who claim they are running the country to take a look at the real problem and that is stop allowing theses insurance companies to take money form the people and start making them give us a rebate check at the end of the year for being a good driver. I feel this would help replace a stimulant check, at lease the people will have something to look foward to.better yet have us to file a 1040 form that will allow us to get back something.

    Bonnie Jo, I can’t believe I heard you say you were a Obama supporter. Well at least that is the way I interpreted what tyou said, qoute:Obama, is a good man guy’s he has helped us more than anyone else. & I’m not saying that because I am a Obama, Girl either or that it’s election year. Just facing the Facts.

    Well, here is a fact, Obama is NOT a US citizen and was never born in Hawai’i as he claims he was. Take that to the bank and cash it! I just don’t understand why this nation is so afraid to bring forth impeachment hearings against him. IS it because of the race issue and that it may cause riots or whatever? Come on now…. are we really going to let that sort of fear detour us from doing what is right by upholding the laws of this country? I don’t believe we should, I truly with all my heart believe we need to have a unbiased special investigator (non-federal) check into this as well as all of Mr. Obama’s affiliations with certain groups/organizations. Hell, didn’t we try to get Mr. Clinton out just for a measly sex scandal? Don’t you think what is more than just a rumor about Obama’s origins is worst than Bill getting a BJ? I think so, so why doesn’t anyone do anything about it?

    You are good at saying wait, wait, wait, WAIT for what…for them to screw us again and not recognize us as a viable concern and that we too are citizens of this country and deserve to be treated fairly. Just because we are seniors doesn’t mean we are senile!

    You guy’s we are not going to get any where by Bashing congress. We have got to give them facts & figures. To get results & from what I’ve read I know you all are mad. Heck I am too! You would not believe what all I’ve been threw. & Now 6 years later I can push forward & hopefully see results. It’s taken that long for all this to finally come to a head..
