250$ Social Security Stimulus Check in 2010

January 3, 2010

The US government is taking every measure to revive the economy and bring it out of the recession. President Obama has said that there will be a Social Security Stimulus Check in 2010 for $250. However, the final decision for this special measure is up to the congress. They should approve bill H.R.3557 – To provide an emergency cost-of-living increase for Social Security benefits for 2010 in their next session. This will be a bonus and will cost the government about $13 billion. The last couple of years has seen the worst slowdown in all the markets including the housing and financial markets which has caused a lot of problems to the economy. By the distribution of the social security stimulus check in 2010 the government hopes to stimulate the markets and the economy and the slowdown can be reversed.

Any individual who is at present receiving payment from Social Security is eligible for the Social Security stimulus check in 2010. Other people who will be eligible are veterans who are disabled, SSI (Supplement Security Income) recipients, and retired federal government employees. The retired employees of federal government who reside in states where social security is not received, even they will get this check. All these people will get the $250 check irrespective of their income level and whether they are working or not. The other people who are eligible to get the social security stimulus check in 2010 are the ones who have an income which is not taxable. If for some reasons these people are able to earn a taxable income after the receipt of this check then they will have to return it to the government or deduct the amount from the refund on federal tax.

The Social Security stimulus check is proposed to be paid by 31st March 2010. The mode of receipt of this check will be the same as how you get your usual payment of Social Security. If its made by check through the mail you will also get this check by mail. If you are getting an electronic payment directly into your bank account then the $250 will be directly paid into your account.

Calculation of Social Security monthly pay check amounts are based on the cost of living. Due to the recession this has not seen any rise, and this check is something to compensate for the same prevailing amount. This additional pumping of funds is supposed to boost the economy and also help the people who receive Social Security in general. It has been seen that Social Security forms an important source of income for a retiree and he receives about $1,150 per month. If you take the statistics, social security amounts, form 40% of all the income of elderly people put together. For one fifth of elderly married couples social security forms almost ninety percent of their income and for two fifths of the elderly singles as well.

The Social Security Stimulus Check which will be sent in 2010 for $250 can help to pay part of any of your debts especially credit cards. Although the amount is not much it will reduce your debt and your interest payments to that extent.

My wife and I are on S.S.getting by is A problem every year its harder and harder to make the money streach then to hear that the do nothing congress votes them selves A raise its hard to swallow they wont even pass health care that would healp senours all they are intrested in is lining there own pockets with special intrest money I do hope most people will remenber them when they come up for election this year and vote them out we have had some bad apples before but this bunch takes the case they throw rocks blame every one else but them selves the party of no is rediclous instead of helping just say no we the voters really picked A bunch dident we I hope we get it right this time

  2. I don’t understand why the damn government would want to take state taxes from individuals who work there butts off for there money but can go and just give away $250 to individuals in which most of them do absolutely nothing to provide for themselves.. Sorry for saying that but there are people out there that receive ssi benefits but can also work a little but they just don’t want to… So pretty much the government is saying that there going to reward those who already get free money with more money and take away from those who work for there money.. STOP GIVING AWAY MONEY TO EVERYONE AND THE DAMN ECONOMY WILL FIX ITSELF……..IT’S JUST NOT FAIR TO THE ONES THAT WORK THAT MIGHT BE HAVING THERE STATE TAXES WITHHELD SO THAT THE STATE CAN PAY OFF DEBTS…USE THE MONEY YOU PLAN ON GIVING SSI RESIPIENTS..DON’T TAKE FROM THE ONES WHO HAVE PUT IN THERE TIME TO MAKE THAT MONEY…………

  3. So, having not “heard” anything about this bill, and this site stating that we should receive the $250 by the end of March, I decided to follow quite a few links that landed me at the the conclusion of calling SS and getting some info from the “horse’s” mouth. This is what they told me, ” The president wants” the bill., however is currently in the hands of The committee of of ways and means. It is suppose to be voted on by Congress. After visiting several sites of The 111th Congress’ 1st session, have not seen the bill even on the floor. So once again, am urging all who are in favor of the bill to call and or write your congressmen, and ask them to get the bill on the floor, so that it can be voted on. There are several bills currently on the floor but H. R. 3557 is not one of them. So if you all need and want this stimulus we need to put pressure on Congress to get it on the floor. Do it now people, for if we don’t it may sit there another year!!

  4. i hope the pass the stimulus money for people on social security we need it

  5. Most of us have worked at one time or are working and pay taxes also either at that time or are doing so now and need something back.

  6. No money left over for “EXTRAS” Excuse me? As a tax payer it is not my responsibility to pay for anyone’s “EXTRAS” How about being grateful that you have what you need. I pay enough taxes already.

  7. You know, I’m reading through the comments. And I’m wondering why each and everyone hasnt picked up the phone and called your congressman and said “HEY WE NEED THIS STIMILUS”
My husband and I are both disabled, he’s on SS, I’m on SSI. And just like most of ya’ll after we pay all our bills, there’s no money left over for extra’s.
We’re struggling to keep our home, etc etc….
But Every day, I pick up the Phone and I call my Congressman except on weekends.
If we all do this, Dont you think they’d get the hint and Finally say HEY lets get this off the floor and into the hands of those that need it?

I for one think thats what might happen. Takes less than 5 minutes to find your congressman’s phone number.
    Give it a try.

    God Bless All

  8. All I can say is may God be with us all, and his will be done. What’s gonna’ be is what’s gonna’ be………………May God Bless You All.

    Rob

  9. I’m just like I get SSDI I will get the 250 but what about my kids? I belive if children on SSI get the payment my kids should too! They receive a check from me. I’m not being heartless just struggling:(

BUT will we be getting the $250.00 this yr? That seems to be the big question. Everyone I know that received it last year, is “hungry” for the extra money., yet no one, has heard a thing about the possible stimulus for 2010. As mentioned at the top of this page, the stimulus is “alledgedly” waiting on Congress to approve it. This site seems to be the only site I have been able to find that even mentions that we “may” see another check this year. So my question is, where else is the stimulus for 2010 mentioned, and if we are to receive it by the end of March, why has there not been anything at all said about it on the news? One would think that when the news is reporting things about the economy that this is one of the things that would be mentioned, as it was last year. I have told my friends that are awaiting about this site, and I am being hammered with “are we getting it or not?” Heck, I am not Congress, nor the president how do I know, except what I read here. Speaking of the president, I remember last year, it was one of the first things that he talked about when the decision was made. have not heard anything from him about it. And how long does it take Congress to “vote” on a bill? I already have written to my congressman asking that he support and vote on this. Have YOU written your Congressman? I think NOW would be a good time.

  11. i would like to thank the president for the last stimulus and i reall am looking forward to the next stimulus. We should be appreciative of what he is giving us because no other president has looked out for us. So i’d like to say thanks a lot president Obama and keep up the good work. The budgets and deficeit has been messed up for years and i know it takes many years to fix, if it can even be fixed. I’d just think you people who are whining should just chill out and be thankful for the $250. What has any other president gave you besides war. OKay ,so sit your but down and let Obama do his job because so far he is donig better than any other president. We should have been put a black man with some knowledge in the whitehouse. Finally a black, intelligent president.

my husband and i both are disabled. we both recieve social security and we both are still young. (i am 39 yrs. old and he’s 38) we both worked all of our lives, but circumstances in our lives caused us both to become disabled, i realize that we are just a drop in the bucket when it comes to the millions of people who live and depend on social security. so i know, first hand, where everyone who has posted here is comming from. mr floridadbadboy, i am sure that everyone here has paid taxes a time or two. but their circumstances have caused them to now depend on disability. until you , sir, walk a mile in our shoes and see where we are comming from, you will never know how we feel. and as far as our president is concerned, i would absolutly hate to have his job. he came into the white house with the weight of the world on his shoulders and will continue to carry that weight until his time is up. if you , sir, think you could do a better job at it than our president, then i challenge you to step up and get our country out of this mess. until then, stfu. thank you, thank you.

  21. I was hoping that by now that the senate would have approved the bill for those of us who did not get the COLA this year would be getting $250 soon. Please we could sure use it the $761 I get each month is not enough to live on.

  22. Robby Carlisle on January 29, 2010 at 2:00 pm

I am Ready for the $250 Dollars Check We’re Not getting a cost of Living it’s like this the Rich get Richer an the poor get poorer an president Obama said he’s gonna turn this country around I thinkl He’s just talkin in the wind I’ll Beleave it when I see it Not any time soon an us people on Disibility don’t hold your Breath then not out to help us

  23. I am a widow with a 9 year old daughter, and are fighting tooth and nail to keep my house. I thought we would get an increase on social security especially in these economic nightmares. When I got the notice that SSI would not increase, I was shocked. I hope this stimulus comes before April or else I am afraid I will get my electricity shut off, gas heat, etc. Something has to be done soon I hope.

  24. FLORIDABADBOY on January 26, 2010 at 8:16 pm

    Why thank Obama
Tax payers like myself made the money So thank us NOT OBAMA
Any one can give money away thats not a trick.

  25. When is the bill going to be passed or has it passed already? I could really use the money as I live on SSI and is getting impossible to get all the things I need on what we get.

  26. Omg, reading down through these comments is so SAD! You’d think you were reading about a lower country. Unbelievable. And shocking. What have we become? It’s pretty scary.

As for my story, it’s the same as everyone else’s. Worked for twenty years, body broke down through no fault of my own, and now I’m trying to live on $700 a month.

To the person who said about some knowing the ins and outs of the give aways, charities, etc., I just wanted to let you know that I truly understand exactly what you’re talking about.

To everyone here, we’re obviously not alone. And we have voices. What can we do besides post on this forum? Seriously, somebody throw out some ideas.

  27. You know we are in hard times and we all have to make adjustments I myself am on disability and I for I one commend president obama for such an act we were going to get nothing now it’s 250 I think he deserves a little grattitude people he has a hard job and the economy sucks right now but he found a way to help so thanks to him keep up the good work mr president

  29. Deb Youngblood on January 23, 2010 at 10:41 am

I totally agree with Mr. Maynard. The people who need the most help are the ones not getting it. I, too, live on SSD, and it is unbelievably difficult just to pay your living expenses.

  30. david maynard on January 23, 2010 at 8:30 am

i just want to say that i am thankful we will be getting 250$. my wife and i live on disability and it is hard to make ends meet. i dont have medicare part b. my wife was working when i became disabled and had insurance on us both. she became disabled and lost health coverage. now i can not afford to get part b. they charge you for each year you didnt take it. mine would take up most of my check. where is the help for people like me. the goverment can spend all they want for noncense.but we are doing without. my wife and i have been hard workers all our lives.this should count for something. the goverment should do more to help the elderly and disabled.

Got something to say?
