250$ Social Security Stimulus Check in 2010

The US government is taking every measure to revive the economy and bring it out of the recession. President Obama has said that there will be a Social Security Stimulus Check in 2010 for $250. However, the final decision for this special measure is up to the congress. They should approve bill H.R.3557 – To provide an emergency cost-of-living increase for Social Security benefits for 2010 in their next session. This will be a bonus and will cost the government about $13 billion. The last couple of years has seen the worst slowdown in all the markets including the housing and financial markets which has caused a lot of problems to the economy. By the distribution of the social security stimulus check in 2010 the government hopes to stimulate the markets and the economy and the slowdown can be reversed.


Any individual who is at present receiving payment from Social Security is eligible for the Social Security stimulus check in 2010. Other people who will be eligible are veterans who are disabled, SSI (Supplement Security Income) recipients, and retired federal government employees. The retired employees of federal government who reside in states where social security is not received, even they will get this check. All these people will get the $250 check irrespective of their income level and whether they are working or not. The other people who are eligible to get the social security stimulus check in 2010 are the ones who have an income which is not taxable. If for some reasons these people are able to earn a taxable income after the receipt of this check then they will have to return it to the government or deduct the amount from the refund on federal tax.

The Social Security stimulus check is proposed to be paid by 31st March 2010. The mode of receipt of this check will be the same as how you get your usual payment of Social Security. If its made by check through the mail you will also get this check by mail. If you are getting an electronic payment directly into your bank account then the $250 will be directly paid into your account.

Calculation of Social Security monthly pay check amounts are based on the cost of living. Due to the recession this has not seen any rise, and this check is something to compensate for the same prevailing amount. This additional pumping of funds is supposed to boost the economy and also help the people who receive Social Security in general. It has been seen that Social Security forms an important source of income for a retiree and he receives about $1,150 per month. If you take the statistics, social security amounts, form 40% of all the income of elderly people put together. For one fifth of elderly married couples social security forms almost ninety percent of their income and for two fifths of the elderly singles as well.


The Social Security Stimulus Check which will be sent in 2010 for $250 can help to pay part of any of your debts especially credit cards. Although the amount is not much it will reduce your debt and your interest payments to that extent.

    It is unbelievable that a person has to choose to eat or put a roof over there head
    i am sorry for all the countries that are having problems however we are having
    problems with eating also i usually shy away from food that is not on sale what is name brand i forgot. i make 21.00 dollars too much to get food stamps and 5.00 too much to get help paying medicare. You fat Cats sitting in the White House put your thinking caps on and do the right thing.

    How can you have a CC if you are living on SS??
    At least you can eat! You’re not starving or malnourished are you?
    When you start feeling sorry for yourself, think about those in other countries who have to eat dirt pies/rocks to stave off the hunger pangs!
    Americans can be pathetic!

    i have to agree with you all. It is just so hard to live on what we get from ss. I work for 35 years on low paying jobs and get 665 a month now on ss.Just got a letter letting me know will start taking 110. of that for my medicare payment each month. Had to charge meat on a charge card yesterday as didn’t have money to buy any. thing just keep going up and up, but do they care about us.(NO) they can vote to send it to another country fast enough tho.

    how sad i am, how sad are we all, we put teh democrats in office thinking they would understand what we are living through, the 250. stimulus check that the disabled are not getting would of helped so much for all of us, i am disabled, broken back, several operations, cancer, just removed my ear, i also have prostate cancer, , i am raising two daughters 11, 16, their mom walked out years ago, i have never considered suicide, but watching my kids hurt , all the pain i am in just alittle good to hold on to sometimes help, but now i am thinking things i should not think, i say vote them all out vote us in,

    i live on ssd. i get right at 700 amonth i also get medcaid, i pay for my medicare out of my check,i get a discount on my medicines which without i can not be here to enjoy my girls and thier children, i am thier only parent have always been i raqised 3 girls on my own without help from the government, i did work, all thier young lifes i did not get to see them grow into young ladies,because i worked 3 jobs to make ends meet, i had a bad car wreck did i ask for this to happen,,, no i did not. and for people out there that have no ideal what its like to have your health taken away.and to be able to thank god for just being alive, i payed my taxes your not paying my way, i payed for it so until you walk a mile in someone elses shoes and you know what your talking about BACK THE F,,,, UP. DONT JUDGE ME FOR GOD WILL BE THE ONE TO JUDGE ME.

    we need to send letter to people like the elderty and disable and people that have someone on social sceurity and we all put up money and go to washington and let the senate no you are not going to stop the $250stimulus check i no we can fine someone to help good people get the money to go to washington. help godbless you also the church can help.

    my spouse is in a long term care facility, have applied for medicaid and they take all of his SS check except for a few dollars. you work all your life for a half way decent retirement income and then they take it away. What is wrong with congress. Let them live on what retirees get.

    Well They Democrats even though their Ever So beloved President was the one who wanted to give the 250.00 to us, they were the one’s who voted the stimulus down.
    So let’s give those IDIOTS a big ROUSING ROUND OF APPLAUSE…

    So where’s our raise of living ? Yes it does cost more to live this year. How bout food? Gas? Meds? Stuff they dont have to worry about because they have oodle’s of money and personal shoppers to get stuff for them like that. So how would they know….
    But here we are left to fend for ourselves.
    Makes me PROUD to be a AMERICAN…….
    Makes me ashamed to b associated with people like them..
    And to boot, I was getting 674.00 ssi, they just cut mine down to 371.00 saying that I had someone living in my household with me bringing in an income. BULLCRAP…..
    These people dont care, So while I’m left wondering how I’m going to pay this bill and that bill, they are all out having a good ole time.
    I feel sorry for those of us who have to rely on them for help.

    Seems like the more we try to help ourselves, the more we get knocked on our butts.

    Do you know there are250 bills laying in the senate because on person is holding
    it up? I think its time to revaluate the people we put in office. There are some that are only there for their own interest.

    My youngest daughter and I need health insurance and to assume the all americans are against a public option is just plain crazy If i could afford the insurance companys I would be without health insurance

    this is Just not right no Cola no bonus check they lowered our state check and things keep going up but some how they expect us survive when we live from month to month on the little we do recieve .$250.00 is not much but it would have bought some grocerys or helped pay for some medications and eased things up for some of us .i’d like to see congress live on what we get a month they would never make it !

    I’ve heard that the Bill with the $250 stimulus check for s.s. recipients has been voted down by Congress. I am disbled and recieve a little less than $700 a month! I live very carefully to survive. This check would help me with new tires for my car, which I cannot afford. I need to get to Dr.’s appt.’s and if my tires go I will be begging for rides. I’m sure most people who would recieve this check would use it for neccessary items. Congress needs to act on this and reissue the bill and vote YES!

    i think this is bull if congress and the senators live what we live on they wouldn’t like it would they if theres no money to give people on ssi and ss raises theres no money in the budget to give themselfs a raise now is there what the congress do and the senators do is give all our money to help other countries and help the illegals they need to stop helping other countries and the illegals and start helping the people in our own country if obama is the boss of the usa does he have the power to over ride the decision what the congress and the senate did reject the $250 payment for people on ssi and ss. how the voters and the tax payers shoot down the congress and the senators payments the voters and the taxpayers should say we aren’t going to pay our taxs so you guys don’t paid to see how the senators and congress feel then. that is why the rich gets richer and the poor gets poorer because of the idoits in washington dc they don’t care it is all about the money they need to cut corners and stop helping other countries and illegals and stop giving themselfs raises. all the voters and tax payers should take a vote and make the senate and the congress live on ssi and ss four like two months see how they liked or live likein a run down apartment buliding.

    Republicans and Democratic deficit hawks combined to reject the idea by a 50-47 vote. The plan, offered in the Senate by Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., would have added $14 billion to the out-of-control budget deficit.

    I just want to know what world the “powers” live in that think there has been no inflation, therefore we don’t “need” a raise for 2 years. This is out of control and we have no say but voting and that doesn’t get the idiots out of appointed positions at Social Security.

    We need a raise PLUS the stimulis, because we worked or got injured, like me broken back 4 times born with Osteoporosis, BUT I worked until I couldn’t anymore. I have 1 med that costs 900.00 a month but I do get a break on the price. If I didn’t I would have to sell my beautiful 107 yr old planation farm house and move into a crappy apartment.

    I know people who are on ssi and they dont get any help from the state at all they have to pay 900 dollars a month to get medical attention, and they only recieve 1600 a month how are they sposta get there medicine and medical attention and pay there bills. My brother needs a heart transplat and has to wait for that cuz he has no kind of insurance. How is that right? and they have worked all there lives it seems like the people who have worked most of there lives dont get crap and the people who live off the state get all the help in the world…

    while i certainly would not turn away 250.00 because i live on a fixed income its not enough to make a difference with my financial struggle. i only need to be concerned about me i can not imagine what the average income family or the low income families are doing just to provide a families basic needs. we need to step back and help our own.

    not all people recieving social security gets thier medicine free, take it from someone who helps thier mom and sister out with the cost of thier meds. they need the help, just like any one else needs the help. cost of living is rising. thats a reality, SO with limited income thats not rising, i would think that everything is not being covered. RIGHT?

    people who get ssi should not get 250 becouse they get medicaid they don’t have to pay no money out for medicaid the state pay’s it all . when ssd people who worked for ssd have medicare and have to pay 100.00 a mo . oh and i get ssi so im saying we should not get it it should go to people who have worked for it.

    We the disabled need help. All of our expenses are going up, but not our ssd checks. My wife and I are both disabled. We are just making it on our monthly checks. Our rent has increased along with our utilities and food bills.We dont know how much longer we can keep our mobile home. The government needs to do something to help its disabled and elderly people. We worked for over 30 years, we diserve more than we get. this is our only source of income, our job had no pension plan. Please mr. president, listen to the people for once. W E NEED YOUR HELP.

    In my opionion I am disbaled yes calling your congressman is extremly improtant for ones that keep complaining call them to get the bill on the floor you dont call then dont bother saying anything. One thing I have learned dont count on the governement or the president count on our selfs to get us out of the needs. Dont count on money when we all no it might not be there ever. You count on it its our own fault becuase we did this. If there wasnt gonna be a payment or a mention of it nobody would be complainging. This is sick money hungry materialistic people. Everyone is struggling from the rich to the poor ones standing next to you to the neighbors on each side of you. We as Americans get through it becuase we do it oursleves. So take a stand and make a phone call please to get the bill on the floor and look into what bills need to be passed and lets get them passed. Are future is our children not us were half way through our life but they have a long life ahead of them that we need to have fixed before theres nothing for them.
