250$ Social Security Stimulus Check in 2010

The US government is taking every measure to revive the economy and bring it out of the recession. President Obama has said that there will be a Social Security Stimulus Check in 2010 for $250. However, the final decision for this special measure is up to the congress. They should approve bill H.R.3557 – To provide an emergency cost-of-living increase for Social Security benefits for 2010 in their next session. This will be a bonus and will cost the government about $13 billion. The last couple of years has seen the worst slowdown in all the markets including the housing and financial markets which has caused a lot of problems to the economy. By the distribution of the social security stimulus check in 2010 the government hopes to stimulate the markets and the economy and the slowdown can be reversed.


Any individual who is at present receiving payment from Social Security is eligible for the Social Security stimulus check in 2010. Other people who will be eligible are veterans who are disabled, SSI (Supplement Security Income) recipients, and retired federal government employees. The retired employees of federal government who reside in states where social security is not received, even they will get this check. All these people will get the $250 check irrespective of their income level and whether they are working or not. The other people who are eligible to get the social security stimulus check in 2010 are the ones who have an income which is not taxable. If for some reasons these people are able to earn a taxable income after the receipt of this check then they will have to return it to the government or deduct the amount from the refund on federal tax.

The Social Security stimulus check is proposed to be paid by 31st March 2010. The mode of receipt of this check will be the same as how you get your usual payment of Social Security. If its made by check through the mail you will also get this check by mail. If you are getting an electronic payment directly into your bank account then the $250 will be directly paid into your account.

Calculation of Social Security monthly pay check amounts are based on the cost of living. Due to the recession this has not seen any rise, and this check is something to compensate for the same prevailing amount. This additional pumping of funds is supposed to boost the economy and also help the people who receive Social Security in general. It has been seen that Social Security forms an important source of income for a retiree and he receives about $1,150 per month. If you take the statistics, social security amounts, form 40% of all the income of elderly people put together. For one fifth of elderly married couples social security forms almost ninety percent of their income and for two fifths of the elderly singles as well.


The Social Security Stimulus Check which will be sent in 2010 for $250 can help to pay part of any of your debts especially credit cards. Although the amount is not much it will reduce your debt and your interest payments to that extent.

    I agree with Matt, everything has increased in price or downsized, and they say there is no inflation.

    Every incumbant needs to be replaced and live like common folk.

    Proud to be what? I dont vote anymore, because of things like tthis happening. They make you think you might get a little help with 250.00. you cant count on anything our pres says or our government. They dont care about anyone who is strugeling, for food or life its self. I also make 5.00 to much to get food stamps. what do the fat cats eat for dinner, what kind of cars do they drive, who pays for their gas, This 250.00 doesnt surprise me that we dont get it. It was just another ploy to get people to be quiet about the little raise we get every year for cost of living. Didnt get that did we?

    I am one of the older Americans who are on Social Security and I would like to see the ones running the US to try to live on what I’m receiving each month. I’m lucky if I have a dollar in the bank after I pay bills. Why is it that the ones who
    have worked for years and paid into SS and paid taxes can’t get help now? I tried to get food stamps and other help but I earn too much since they use the gross and not the net amount we get. Tell me something could you live on $1036 a month paying rent, food, medical and other expenses? To top this off I’m a veteran of the Women’s Army Corp. The veterans are treated sooo goooood.
    Isn’t the stimulus check taken out of tax money? I’m still paying taxes as they tax my retirement.

    WE ARE IN THE SAME BOAT AS MATT BERRY WE CAN’T GET HELP BECAUSE WE ARE RIGHT OVER THE GUIDE LINES AND GET TO MUCH SS MONEY TO GET ANY HELP.CANT GET FOOD STAMPS OR MEDICAID NO HELP IN THE WINTER WITH OUR HEATING BILLS OR ANYTHING.NO HELP WITH PAYING ANY OF OUR BILLS OR FOOD OR GOING TO SEE OUR DOCTORS .NOW THAT THING HAVE GONE UP AND GAS GOES UP AND DOWN FROM WEEK TO WEEK. GROCERY HAVE GONE UP 10 TO 15% HIGHER . I WOULD LIKE TO SEE OBAMA AND THE REST OF THE ONES WHO THINK THAT THINGS ARE GETING BETTER. TO COME DOWN OFF THERE HIGHT HORSE AND PICK A FAMILY THAT IS ON SS AND AND LIVE WITH THEM FOR A MONTH . JUST SEE WHAT WE GO THREW .

    I am diaabled and get social security and now i hear that we are not going to get our 250,00 stimulus check. Like they always say money goes to money. Car dealers get help the local banks get help but not the ones that really need it. I would love to see just one of them live of our income for a month and see just how hard it is to pay bills and have food on the table. This is why we are in a crisis obama you will not get reelected way in heck

    I am on disability & am truly APPALLED that we don’t rate on the governments radar enuf 2 give us a little help. I only get $854 a month. Tell me I couldn’t use cola or the stimulus! I don’t think it’s fair that we have 2 suffer because our congressmen need a new toilet. I think we should all bombard the presidents web site and office with our stories. Maybe they may have some compassion for us poor disabled folk. I don’t know what else to do other than go stand on the white house lawn and scream. But, I gotta get there 1st! No money so, that’s not an option. I just think that there have to be some good ppl left out there that actually give a damn about somebody other than themselves. If u r out there, can u help us PLEASE?

    Simply unbelievable that Obama has let the Congress and the House determine whether the $250 stimulus checks will be mailed out. I voted for you Obama because you promised change and I didn’t want to see the crazy Republicans do the same thing you are doing.

    Obama, it is TIME NOW to start making good on your promises and the first one should be the $250 that you promised to the people on SS and SSI. Get a grip already. Come try and live on this little bit of nothing that I receive each month and see if you can survive even the first day of the month living below poverty level. My guess would be absolutely not!

    It’s a crying shame how the ‘great’ USA treats the elderly and disabled. I don’t want to hear about how much you are doing to get us out of the deficit that the Bush Administration got us into. Just do it as Nike says. You bail out the auto industry, you bail out the financial industry and leave us all stranded. We didn’t ask you for much – just a change so we could get even a little bit of the financial pressure off of us. THANKS FOR NOTHING MR. PRESIDENT!

    I read where Congress voted against the 2010 Stimulus payment by a vote of 50 – 47 against sending a $250.00 payment to those of us on Social Security. I also read that Congress is not giving Social Security recipients anything next year. Incidently, in the same paragraph I saw that Congress had to pay for their Medical benefits out of the money that was supposed to go to Social Security recipients and that they did indeed get a nice big raise. Is this the way you treat the people that worked all their lives and paid into Social Security? It is the way we are being treated by our Government….Unbelievable… I emailed the president to ask him how he expected Senior Citizens to react….and when is the government going to make this decision to cut us out common knowledge? Alot of people are still waiting for a check that isn’t coming.

    I agree things are still going up i get disablity and sometime i,m not even half way in the month and i,m broke having not even 50.00 by the time you pay your bills that,s not living i rather got my in my check each month tahn one time of 250 .oo one time it help me better that way.

    This countries congress an senate forgot exactly who voted them all in,It was we the people not i the only one , now with this oil coming to our coastlines the economy sucks i reside in fl the west coast of fl an i live 25miles away from the gulf waters, thats still to close for comfort totally this all could have been prevented the oil but any way some where this goverment forgot who voted for them all ! they need to get off the asses an give the 250 cash to the ones who need it an then january first 2011 put back in place the cola because have any of you tried living on a measley 674 a month i know i could not do it if i had too at all, this is the riches country they say in the world an we have treated some of the americans like dirt our goverment for got who votes for them , our goverment has shown they are just as bad as BP if not worse one thing our goverment have in common with BP IS GREED! i guess one goes hand in hand kinda an who invented only 250 , thats peanuts for those who really need it either increase ssi to what states like california has done or give a stimulus but do some thing they all need it ,because every thing has gone up including the senators an congress peoples pay why not the ones on ssi , im ahshamed im an american at times

    I’m getting confused by reading about stimulus checks on several sites. Some say we will get it (even Brian Williams, NBC News said we will) and some say we won’t. I’m going with “won’t” because it’s all government mumbo jumbo, as always.

    I am a mother of 2 kids and I have Lupus and alot of other health problems. I get SSI only and it does not pay my bills. There are sooo many times we dont have food to eat, cause the food stamps i get is not enough. By the end or middle of the month we are luckly to eat once a day. i get only alittle over 600 dollars a month on SSI, no other income and my stamps is barely over 100 dollars a month. i have meds. to buy monthly but they say it is not enough to count for more stamps. My ssi barely pays the rent and uitillys and there is not much left for anything. When you cant buy soap, etc… that is soo wrong. My kids cant do things other kids get to do and i worry and cry everyday about. What does it really mean to live in the US when they dont take care of their own, it is just not right. With Lupus i am always in a flare cause of the stress about money that my health is getting worse! Something needs to be done for us US citizins!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    I agree with everyone on here we work hard to keep what we have and they take away our cola and leave us with nothing and don’t allow us to have a stimulus check too so tell the government if they were on s.s. that they would feel the same way when they don’t get the money that they are expecting every year.

    ii agree with you guys i have been disabled for about 6 years and things just keeping going to the pot, if the government were made to take a pay cut to what we make they would approve the stimulas checks in a hurry, they do not need the money and they do not care about us

    I would love to get another stimulus check, God knows it would probably go for propane for next winter, but I don’t understand why Matt berry wrote and said he could not afford his meds, if he is on social security then his meds are covered by Medicare D with him only paying a very small co pay, and if he isn’t he needs to sign up through Medicare

    I love the way that like everyone has stated… we dont get our COLA but we would sorta be ok because we were still getting stimulus. I am sick and tired of being sick and tired… the government knows that we live on a basic month to month basis… never moving up and 90% of us will always be stuck where we are due to illness. So what do they do?? They took our raise and our check! My god you know… I have kids to and its not easy when you the bread winner cant bring it home anymore. Thanks allot congress for like another said “letting the illegal aliens over” hell yes we give them food stamps or lets send more money to Haiti.. I know they need it. Maybe you should take care of the ones at home instead of trying to help the world and neglecting us… out govt. is like an abusive parent… spank our butts behind closed doors and yet they want us to smile and say we have it made here, well we dont with them ramming it in every time we turn around. I was disabled in Iraq so I think I damn sure have a right to say it….. thanks for what you do for all the sick and all the veterans… you really blow!
