250$ Social Security Stimulus Check in 2010

The US government is taking every measure to revive the economy and bring it out of the recession. President Obama has said that there will be a Social Security Stimulus Check in 2010 for $250. However, the final decision for this special measure is up to the congress. They should approve bill H.R.3557 – To provide an emergency cost-of-living increase for Social Security benefits for 2010 in their next session. This will be a bonus and will cost the government about $13 billion. The last couple of years has seen the worst slowdown in all the markets including the housing and financial markets which has caused a lot of problems to the economy. By the distribution of the social security stimulus check in 2010 the government hopes to stimulate the markets and the economy and the slowdown can be reversed.


Any individual who is at present receiving payment from Social Security is eligible for the Social Security stimulus check in 2010. Other people who will be eligible are veterans who are disabled, SSI (Supplement Security Income) recipients, and retired federal government employees. The retired employees of federal government who reside in states where social security is not received, even they will get this check. All these people will get the $250 check irrespective of their income level and whether they are working or not. The other people who are eligible to get the social security stimulus check in 2010 are the ones who have an income which is not taxable. If for some reasons these people are able to earn a taxable income after the receipt of this check then they will have to return it to the government or deduct the amount from the refund on federal tax.

The Social Security stimulus check is proposed to be paid by 31st March 2010. The mode of receipt of this check will be the same as how you get your usual payment of Social Security. If its made by check through the mail you will also get this check by mail. If you are getting an electronic payment directly into your bank account then the $250 will be directly paid into your account.

Calculation of Social Security monthly pay check amounts are based on the cost of living. Due to the recession this has not seen any rise, and this check is something to compensate for the same prevailing amount. This additional pumping of funds is supposed to boost the economy and also help the people who receive Social Security in general. It has been seen that Social Security forms an important source of income for a retiree and he receives about $1,150 per month. If you take the statistics, social security amounts, form 40% of all the income of elderly people put together. For one fifth of elderly married couples social security forms almost ninety percent of their income and for two fifths of the elderly singles as well.


The Social Security Stimulus Check which will be sent in 2010 for $250 can help to pay part of any of your debts especially credit cards. Although the amount is not much it will reduce your debt and your interest payments to that extent.

    I hear we are, I hear we are NOT getting the 250.00 stimulus check. I am 53 yrs old , totally disabled and get ssdi on the 3rd of each month.can anyone tell me if we are or are NOT getting these checks, seems to me. nobody really knows.

    you know yoy can all kiss my ass I get a payment from a recognized Native American Tribe for 400.00 a month so I only get 294.00 a month from SSI what kind of shit is that and I get 30.00 in food stamps so tell me about everything wrong in your life if the white man would give us our nelson act payment I could have some extra money to I dont have a cell phone or a car or a house that i own cause you see i married a bum i thought i would get married and have kids and live in a house and have a white picket fence but no things didnt turn out like that as usual not everything turns out for everybody like I said I get money from our tribe but I get it taken away from the white government so you just cant win. and wheres that nelson act payment? the white government is holdibg it and making sure we dont get it Ill probably be dead by the time we get it. thank you for listening or reading this lenawell47 June 14 2010

    it is blatantly outrageous that the President promised seniors a stimulus check, but that Congress over-ruled him, and now we won’t get the check. All elected officials should be subjected to the same living conditions as most seniors, having little food, cutting back on the heat and electricity, just to keep within the monthly budget. A lot of people are saying, “don’t blame Obama”. He is the President, and he has the power to make sure we receive these checks! You think he really cares? Hell, NO!!!

    It was the Democrates in Congress that stopped the stimulis checks for those on Social Security or Disability. It’s time to say no more to these elected officials and change the law for those who serve in Congress. It’s time that they only can serve a 2 or 4 year term and not make a living off every other Americans back. These Congressmen are getting rich and keeping everyone else poor by their own greediness. So when you go vote say NO to another term for the conress person in your state.Make them have to work for a living the same as we did. We pay their salaries, buy their homes pay their medicial bills and give them cost of living increases every year. Are we that dumb to keep doing this. I hope not. So join me and vote no more.

    i sit here 66 yrs old disabled may not be here next year i draw ss i dont know what is wrong with congress to refuse us a little 250 stimulus check or cost of liv raise may god hear us they should have to live in our shoes we need that stimulus to help us a little are they trying to get rid of disabled people they think there so smart im an old woman i have a daughter in bad shape social sec refused her whats this world coming to it makes you feel worthless and to just want to lay down and cry keep the president flush congress ive had my say except how did your steak taste

    I was DENIED SSI twice and the third time one goes right before a Judge and he/she Decides. I got mine and the judge was shocked the SS people denied me to begin with. So if u Have been denied KEEP applying/appealing and see what happens the third time when u finally get before the judge. There r lawyers who will help also but if u win they get 1/3 of your back money, nothing if they/you lose. I did it without a lawyer.

    If you are on SSI or SS Disability then You MUST be also getting Medical help in the form of either Medicaid or Medicare so WHY r u having sooo much trouble paying MEDICAL BILLS? I get Medicaid and I pay NOTHING for my medical in CT or RI where I have lived. If u r saying u get no medical help while u r getting SSI then u r not being Totally honest, ru?

    I do Not understand WHY anyone on this forum can’t ge enough FOOD/ There are Food Banks/Food Panteries EVERYWHERE even in the smallest towns/villages in the US. Check with churchs and Social Services and since u CAn afford a computer do a search ONLINE for local Food Banks etc. There is absolutely no reason to go hungry but u can’t sit around crying about it u must get off your duffs and go Get the food, it won’t be brought to u! I am on SSi ONLY and get ONLY %35 a month food stams yet my cupboards r FULL1 I go to a local church every 2 weeks and to 2 other places once a month for each place. In season we get Fresh garden goods, we get bakery items , we got a lot of Rice and Pasta Tomato sauce and canned goods. We even get Hamburger,hot dogs,cheese, milk. One may not eat fancy but I never go hungry. Use your imagination and go online for recipes and u can feed a family Cheaply! Stop feeling soooo sorry for yourself!

    I was told that a article came out in a booklet in Arkansas that said we would get a stimulus check on the 15th of June, this year, what makes me MAD is the ones that are welfare, they are to recieve a $400 stimulus check. those that are geting any help either money, food stamps, OR med card. my niece recieved hers YESTERDAY. she has ALL PLUS, SSI. AND working a job but being paid under the table, so no one will know. this is what MAKES ME MAD! as for BUSH>>>>>>>>>>>>>> he can drop off the face of the earth as far as I am concerend and NO it is NOT about money BUT about the OPEN HUNTING SEASON HE PUT ON THE WILD MUSTANGS,(horses). HE is the JERK OF ALL JERKS! regardless of what else he done. NOT TO MENTION,,,,,,,, all the ILLEGAL immagrants he allowed in the US. THEY are getting the money we earned and sending it back to MEXICO. SO glad he is out of office.

    I do know how hard it is to live on soc sec checks and waiting around a whole month for your checks to come in cause your broke the day after you get your money because you have to pay all your bills, and alot of the time your ss check isn’t enough to pay all of your bills. I’d like to see anybody live on a ss check that has a house pymt and all the house hold bills that comes with the house… I take care of my mother she is a widow. and if it wasn’t for me helping her she couldn’t do it alone… I would just like to see her have enough money to pay everything and have money in her billfold at the end of the month….what i don
    ‘t get is they want them to go to nursing homes and they charge an arm and a leg and the gov. pays the nursing homes what they ask for…why can’t they give that money to the poor people??/ my mom not only has bills she’s got to buy all the other things she has to have each month….like all of us.. and yes I’d like to see the president ( I don’t care who it is..) Live on a soc. sec. check for one year.. and get 16.00 a month from food stamps….. and have the attude my moms got. she is so thankful for everything and wakes up every morning with a smile on her face, and when she does get that 16.00 in stamps she says well that’ll buy my milk, bread, and coffee…. and it don’t I end up buying more before the month is up…..but this is America!!!!! and life is to short not to smile……. and I love my mom and as long as I’m here and she is still living I won’t let her go without……..So I think.. all you people on soc sec should get a 250.00 more on your checks each month not once a year this is 2010 not 1970…. When you poor people do get a so called raise, they take off your food stamps or somewhere else and I don’t think that’s right… So I guess in the end just be thankful for what you are receiving and always keep a smile on your face..and my prayers are with you all…….

    Yes, not receiving ccost of living or the 250.00 stimulus really really hurts. I am a widow on social security disability and can’t understand why this has to happen to us who have worked hard most of our lives and live solely on this one check a months and nothing else from the government.

    We all would like to buy things to not just scrape by check to check

    I too am a Social Security Disability recepient. As of today 6/9/10, has there been any further news of SSI-DI recepients receiving Stimilus checks this year?

    This is to go to Matt Berry. . . I am in complete agreement with you about the money situation, my husband is fully disabled he is not even 30 yet and was born with this. I think the government needs to stop hogging the money and start carrying about the people rather than about themselves. I have a family of 4 I have a husaband who is disabled a boy who is in grade school and a toddler. The money that my husabnd gets from his SSI is enough to pay Rent and that is it. I am the one that pays for the bills, I am barley able to bring food in the house I am lucky to even get $60 worth of food a month. I feel there needs to be a different income limit for those who have famillies and are disabled. We did not CHOOSE to be diasabled we did not CHOOSE not to be able to work. I have been trying to get food stamps and make a living for my family. but no one seems to care we are in what you call the A class the lowest class there is in the USA and they feel the lower the class the more we will fall and lose….. what people don’t realize is when we are forced to survive we will be become adapt to what life gives us and we will become stronger because it was our way of our life. The US is suppsed to mean freedom well I feel it is freedom to those who have money and are those who are not legal in the US but for the people who REALLY NEED it like us with families who have a disabled loved one or are just plain disabled we are looked at as you are weak, you will not survive, you are going to to hld us back and bring us down, well people we will survive and we will become stronger but for you to say that the US is freedom I quite have to DISAGREE the ere are classes in the US there is the A class the lowest class where people cannot afford to live on there own income but make too much for Government, so those people are going to fail and become nothing this thinking of the government, The Class B is for the people who do have jobs but have too many bills still can go to school and recieve help from the government so those people are going to go somewhere in their life if they choose to and we will give them a chance by helping them, The Class C is the imigrants and aliens who have comeinto our country, they have as many kids as they can you better not discriminate against them cause we could get sued even though don’t have a VISAto work and ilve in our country. Class D is the people who make money but talk there way out of situations and getting away with commiting fraud on the government. and the government closing their eyes to what is going on. and the Class E the millionars, government, who get raises and don’t care about the people. this is what I see in our US and unless these classes are either averaged out or equaled out there are always going to be problems and when the time is needed the people who you thought were weak will persever and become strongest.

    I am not a politically motivated person,but I feel I need to address this issue. I am on social security and have not been able to find work to subsidize my income from it. I was looking forward to the extra $250.00 to help out with my bills. I am being unrealistic when I say that I wish it was the 50s again when even without a lot of money we could live comfortable lives. My parents both worked and were able to retire with some comfort for several years. I was hoping that when I reached this age I would finally have some peace of mind. Well I do not know who is at fault for this I just wanted to get this off my chest. thanks

    I too receive SSI,and I was expecting help with the $250.00 stimulus check. I have been reading comments from people about not getting the Stimulus Check and I just want people to understand President Obama pushed for us to get the much needed check but it was congress that said no. People should direct their anger at those that deserve it and that is to there Congressman or woman. This is an election year and the bill might be re-introduced later in the year, closer to election time so people will re-elect those people that have put us through hell this year. So when it comes time to vote please do so and say yes to President Obama and to Hell with your Congressman.It,s time we stood up for ourselves and take the Country back from these jerks.

    WHY DID THEY DECIDE NO TO GIVE US THE STIMULUS CHECK,I WAS REALLY LOOKING FORWARD TO IT,MY ELECTRIC HAS BEEN SO HIGH THIS WINTER ,I STILL HAVEN’T GOTTEN CAUGHT UP.AND YES THEY DIDN’T GIVE US RAISE BECAUSE THEY SAY ECONOMY NOT UP,WELL,I THINK IT IS EVERYTHING I GO TO BUY HAS GOTTEN HIGHER.MY CAR INSURANCE HAS EVEN WENT UP.I JUST DON’T KNOW HOW PEOPLE ARE GOING TO MAKE IT,THAT HAVE TO DEPEND ON CHECKS TO LIVE,IT IS SAD THAT THEY ARE DIABLED AND NOW HAVE TO LOOK FOR HELP FROM THE GOVERNMENT.I CAN’T EVEN AFFORD TO GO TO GROCERY STORE BUT ONCE A MONTH.GUESS THAT IS LIFE AND IT IS JUST GOING GET WORSE,THE WAY THINGS ARE LOOKING.GOD BLESS ALL.

    i think that it is a shame that we are not getting the $250 checks to. we are all about to starve to death here in the us. nothing to eat half the time. if you are disable and try to draw disability then you are denied. what are we suppose to do?
