More than a Stimulus Check
December 30, 2009
With the changes in the global economy, a lot sure has changed. These changes were a needed part to avert the succumbing trend of the financial aspect of many American’s lives. The good that the 2009 stimulus package has and can do is much more than can be described. For the low and middle income earners, it was like an early Christmas present.
Enhanced Child Tax Credit
So what exactly was in the stimulus check that is headline worthy? A lot would be the best answer to give. Perhaps narrowing to the specifics might help emphasize that point even more. For starters, there is the enhanced child tax credit which amounts to $1000 for every qualifying child. Qualifying in this case means that the child is your biological offspring, or under legal or moral care of the taxpayer, who is the acting guardian. The changes that occur are in the earning bracket threshold, which has been reduced from excess earnings of $12,000 to about $3000.
New car sales tax deduction
Then there is the tax deduction for anyone buying a new car. It’s called the new car sales tax deduction which is applicable whenever you are buying a new car. Of course, there are the other payments that you have to have in mind. The tax deduction is usually taken away from the price of the car that you are buying. Usually there is the time frame when you qualify for the deduction. For the year 2009, the last day was quoted at December 31st. For the New Year, you need to keep an eye out for the schedule that covers the time frame when the tax deduction is valid.
One-year “patch” on the Alternative Minimum Tax
The Alternative Minimum Tax isn’t that much well understood, as say federal income tax. A one year patch on the AMT has been put in place to ensure that the effects of inflation did not raise the tax bar for the middle income earners, as it was observed. The patch was indeed a raise in the income threshold of the taxpayers that are liable to making the AMT Payments.
Bonus depreciation
Another tax incentive granted after deliberation is bonus depreciation. Incepted in 2008, the incentive has been extended well into 2009. Basically its simple, when you have acquired new business assets, you are allowed to write off 50% of the cost of this property which is depreciable. The qualifying factor is that said property has to be new and not used.
Reduced taxes on unemployment income
The issue of unemployment is one that haunts any government worldwide, since not every citizen will be on regular monthly income. The stimulus package does deliver those Americans who are out of employment from hefty taxes. Its already bad enough when you are out of a job, but when you have to pay tax for the little money you collect as you search for your next job, it becomes daunting. The stimulus plan reduces the much you have to pay.
Expanded Hope Credit
Finally there is the expanded hope credit that gives you even more reason to look forward to higher education. By reducing your amount of taxable income, or in other words the tax that you have to pay you get financially focused on college education. For a stimulus package that offers this and so much more, there is only one question, and that is why did it not come any sooner?

Stimulus I still don’t see it. GM borrowed money now there borrowing again. the Senior Citizens lost cost of living increases in the next 2 years because there is no inflation. At least that is what Social Security wants the seniors to believe. Tell that to my SuperMarket food is up but the Government puts a different spin on it telling you it’s not because of inflation. The Government employees got a cost of living increase, Some senators who are CONVICTED FELONS still have their lifelong pensions in place and one I know got a cost of living increase in the tune of 9,000.00. Where’s the justice. Seniors come last Seems the only time of importance is Election Time where they need your vote.Other then that they hope you drop dead. This was not a prepared statement more of what I would like to say in person to the people in power. Still waiting for my 250.00 stimulus check for 2010 from President Obama. GoodLuck
