Rumors of a Second Stimulus Package

The rumors of a second stimulus plan could turn out to be true as many people feel that the first one of $787 billion was just not enough. Nearly half of the amount of the first stimulus plan has been spent and still there has been no noticeable impact on the economy according to many experts. Certain experts and economists feel a greater boost is required in infrastructure and public work projects for which the amount allocated in the first stimulus plan is not enough and therefore a second stimulus plan is called for.


Although many experts feel that the first stimulus plan has had a positive impact on the economy, the previous forecasts of the sickness of the economy were understated. They feel that the economy had really gone bad and the reports were not showing the correct picture, hence the first stimulus plan did not have the impact it was supposed to have. These experts presume that a second stimulus plan will quicken the recovery process. For Obama, this comes as a job stimulus bill to help create and preserve more jobs, so that the unemployment rate decrease from its historic high of double digits.

The Administration on the other hand feels that it is too early to pass a judgment on the first stimulus plan and discussing about a second one already is a bit premature. They feel that the measures which are in the first stimulus plan have not been fully implemented and they would take time. Many projects have been allocated funds but they need proper planning and execution through a contract which will take time. Once these projects are under way their effects will start showing on the economy and that would be a better time to judge the current stimulus plan and then think about a second one if needed.

Although the unemployment rate has touched 10% and growing, compared to the estimated 8%, President Obama still feels that a second stimulus plan is not needed yet. Experts on the other hand say that the first stimulus plan was based on forecasts which were not true. These forecasts did not give the correct picture of how badly the economy had gone down, and since the first stimulus plan was based on the false forecasts it did not have the desired effects.

Many of the Democrats themselves feel that the rate, at which the implementation of the first stimulus plan is moving, is much too slow. The dispersion mechanism of the plan was not good enough for a faster distribution of various aids and stimulus packages. Also many economists feel that a second stimulus package is affordable by the United States although there is rising fiscal deficit.


Many experts feel that a second stimulus plan is in order, as more investments are needed for growth in the economy and United States should not depend on consumption as an indicator of economic growth. The second stimulus plan should promote growth in the manufacture of export items and the dollar rate needs to go down for United States to compete in world trade.

Putting together the expectancies of the people and the growth achieved by the first stimulus plan it is not surprising that there are rumors of a second stimulus plan.

    I would like to know if there is going to be any stimuls checks for people on ssi Like my mother whos money was cut. She live alone , has been sick so my sister and brother are helping out with er bills. When she went to SS to get help so we can save our money for, Like myself who’s husband has been out of work since 2008 and now his unemployment has run out. We could ready use that money in our household. My youngest brother was hurt on the job in Aug 09 and can’t work, waiting on his workmans comp has only his wife’s income and 3 children surely use there money in the household. We all need help!. Today I am just asking for my mother. Smile ! Slowly Sinking

    I have a very big problem with people who blame president obama for the fiscal disaster that the whole world is in. It’s not his fault ! you must remember that our previous pres bush did this to us under the disguise under 9/11 and started war with Iraq and Afghanistan when he was to go after bin laden. which cause alot of money spent a cross sea. You all know that we will never recover any of this money. Pres Bush!!! put the U.S. in this predictament in only 8 years !!! and there is nobody looking to blame him why is that ? But that’s okay. I am just asking for everybody to give Obama a chance because you all know that every decision is being fought tooth and nail by republicans and some democrats !! so give him chance! Oneluv!

Obama was handed this mess of a country and he is doing his best to fix it. yeah, yeah, the man has made mistakes, but he is human not God and he isn’t working alone!! all of you can stop crying about your “free check” you’ll get it when you get it!!! you want the money but then turn around and complain about it not being enough! get over it!! don’t like the way your country is being run, then do something about it! oh, wait, you’re on ssi/ssd so that would be too much for you! my son is on ssi and we get about 55 bucks every 3 months. i have 5 small children and a 3 week old i just got guardianship over. i work my butt off to provide for them, so put your hand back in your pockets and push on! give me, give me, give me! shame on you!

    The economic problems that we sre having are not OBAMAS fault. It is because of george bush and the other oil men. that still does not help people like me who are on ssd. instead of giving money to the banks and big companies who lied about what they were going to do with the money, give the money to help the AMERICANS who have worked their entire lives and due to no fault of their own have had to go on ssd,ssi. not much money but $250 would at least help a little to buy food and meds.

    well i am a diasable mother with two almost growth children and my grandbaby live with me . The person made a comment about that they work two jobs and that the money should go to the working people should get the money and the we should get what is left over. Well some of the people like me have work in some time of their life. I am one the the one that worked and now iam diaable to work. I tried to back to work two years ago and i got sick again now i can’t work . So i fell like i sould recieve 250 dallar. that money wont really pay a bill for me just to buy grocery. Well you got some people that never work in their life go to the mental health in mississippi just to get acheck tha’t wrong. The person tha made that comment might become disable and may have to live on a fix income would you feel the same way? I think not so be careful what you say about us people that’s really disable. Oh yeah i hope one day that alll diasable people that living on a fix income would get some food stamp old people too.

    i would like to know why it is taking OBAMA so long to tell social security recipents weather will will get a recovery check or not, maybe he thinks we”ll forget that we are on a very fixed income, ssd,ssi, will not make you a millionaire, but it”s something to get food on our table, i have a real feeling we will not see any type of stimululs at all because in 2009 we already knew what was coming, the people drawing unemployment insurance will be getting an extension on their earning , what happened to folks who rely on s s?

    if we do not get a check or something we’re in serious bad shape, people on ssi, ssd, really have a hard time, i know my son and i are on ssd,ssi, i wish OBAMA probably lied about a recovery check for usw poor people too, so far far he has lied about everything, he OBAMA makes more trips abroad then any president i”ve ever seen, and we pay for his trips, his clothes, parties, etc, and here we are wanting a lousy $250.00 check something is wrong here and no one meaning senators, congress, etc, will stand up for us, what way to run a country.

    i love our country but there is no one in the federal government i trust to run this country , we owe so much money it”s unreal, i don”t know what the senator”s etc, are thinking , OBAMA thinks the money can be printed forever, when will he stop putting the U,S in such debt,? it hasc to come to an end someday, AND what really gets me is how two faced the administration is, PELOSI, REID, OBAMA , should all be throwed out on their ears, the three idioits, are ruining everything for our way of life, what will happen next?

    i feel like everyone that is drawing ssi, or ssd, deserves a check of $250.00 in 2010 the price of food , clothing, etc. are very high, i don”t think the federal government has anything to worry about but the average everyday person out in the real world is worried about how to get food on the table, OBAMA does not want to know this or just doesn”t care either way he is another world all together.

    All of you people asking for $250 checks should stop and think where that money comes from. First of all the checks should go to those of us that work and if there is anything left all you nonworkers can have it. I am talking about all of you that are scamming ths system claiming to have disabilities and really dont. Retirees and those that have legit need I feel for you and think you should get a $5-10 a month cola. I hate the way this country is headed. Obama’s gonna pay mortgages,education and other bills by taxing the workers to the max. No more damn freebies get off your asses and work work work. I work 2 jobs totalling 72 hours a week and get ripped off in taxes to pay for all the damn freebies

    I think that the rumors about the 2010 simulus check should be cleared up or clarified so that everyone can stop worrying about whether or not we are going to get one or not including myself!!

    I want to know if we are getting a 250. for stimuls 2010,march.i would also like to know how some people are drawing a disabity check every month that does not have one thing wrong with them,and has been drawing for 5 yrs,no meds she takes,hits the road every day shopping and long trip where her husband who plays softball every weekend.how can this be posssible when the disable who are really sick and can,t paid bills because of the meds they have to take.this is none of my businessbut was just trying to understand i guess,how do people get throught the crack and not one thing wrong with them.i thought that disablity was for someone who are not able to work at all.

    Also need to know if the small $250 is on the way. No COLA, but food has gone up. Gas is up, medication is astronomical, and heating bills are a nightmare
    for retirees depending mainly on social security. We need a cost of living increase no matter what the GPI is! I believe we are still inflated.

    Karen, The first part of this site, states that the President has voted for a $250 stimulus for 2010, “BUT” the final decision is up to a vote by congress. This week, I called SS and they told me the same thing. The bill, H.R. 3557, has been on the floor since last September, and nothing mentioned about it on the news. I did some online research yesterday, and discovered that most of the Republican Congressman are against the bill. I received a newsletter from Al. congressman today, stating that he is against the bill. I immediately replied and told him he would not be receiving my vote whenever he comes up again. There are several sites you can visit and see that the bill has not even been brought up yet for a vote by congress, although there are alot of other bills, less important (in my opinion), that are on the floor, and being voted on. I have called, and written All congressman in my state urging them to give this stimulus their attention and vote on it. But as usual, we sit here and wait. The first part of this discussion, on this site, states that “if” we get the $250 it should be no later than March 31st, 2010
