Senior Stimulus Check in 2010

January 6, 2010

The Stimulus Check is when the previous president of the United States sent out checks to all citizens of the United States in the hope of easing the effect the economic downturn had on the citizens and their households.

In 2009, President Obama passed the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 which enabled several stimulus checks to boost the economy. In 2009 the stimulus check was given to United States citizens as social security benefits, military pensioners and railroad pensioners. A one time payment $ 250 was given. Senior citizens are eligible as well. Citizens who are employed were also eligible for the stimulus check in 2009 and it is very likely that they will qualify for the SSI 2010 stimulus check as well. Those who are employed are also given a tax rebate on their salaries, which gives them spending power.

The 2010 stimulus plan will be the same as the stimulus plan that was in place in 2009. Senior citizens, those living on social security benefits and pensioners are hopeful that they will get their check on a weekly basis, but recent reports indicate that President Obama has announced that a one-time $250 stimulus check will be made in 2010 to recipients of Social Security. However it’s up to Congress to approve this bill. Senior citizens in the country are really worried about not getting the stimulus check for 2010.

Who is really eligible for the stimulus 2010? – Those depending on Social Security payments, Pensioners, unemployed citizens, veterans and the disabled.

By what date in 2010 can senior citizens expect the check? – It is not known which day or month the check will be sent but rumor has it that the check will be finalized and will go out before the end of March 2010. According to officials at the white house, the costs of all the stimulus checks are to top $ 13 – $14 billion for 2010 as well.

However, even though there are reports that confirm that senior citizens are eligible for the 2010 check as well, President Obama has to justify to the lawmakers that this is going to help the economy

It said that the 2010 plan would follow the economic recovery checks sent out during the spring of 2009 to senior citizens, disabled workers and some veterans as part of the broader stimulus package. Those veterans who qualify would include those who are currently on disability compensation, dependency compensation, and pension payouts and veterans who are receiving social security benefits are also eligible for the $250 check.

The senior stimulus check for 2010 is eligible only to citizens of the United States, Puerto Rico and Guam.

The check is aimed at helping those senior citizens and veterans who are being hit the most by the recession. These senior citizens and veterans should be allowed to enjoy their retirement benefits, but sadly that has not been the case since the economic downturn.

However, government officials are keeping a tight lip when veterans query on when they will actually receive the checks

  1. I have an idea. Why not lower the retirement age down to 50. There are over 40 million people at that age and above. Then give each one of us 1 million dollars with 3 promises— 1. We agree not to go back to work. 2. we either pay of our mortgage or buy a home and pay cash for it. 3. Each one of us buys a new american made car. This would open up over 40 million jobs. Plus jump start the auto industry, and put money back into the banks. Good idea Huuuh!

  2. we think things r bad now,,,wait a few mths,,a yr,,its all about a cashless society,,and a breakdown of your civil libertys,,america i love it ,,but does it even belong to u and i anymore???we owe more than we can repay a cashless society ,,yes soon,,new world order its here folks came into effect in nov of 2009,,,it isnt happen stance that we r goin down quick,,,look into an organization called the bilderbargers,,,u will be awed,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,obabma he knows what hes doin alright…u got a clue???????????

Hello Fellow Americans, It’s Sunday, February 07, 2010 and there has been no comment about whether or not we will br receiving our $250.00 stimulus rebate. There has been plenty of media coverage concerning the earthquake in Haiti, and the bad weather that blanketed, most of the nation for the past two weeks but nothing at all about the rebate.Looks as if we have been tossed aside once again.Wouldn’t you agree that it would be just as simple to say yes,or no that way we won’t be left in the dark and can go with our everyday living.and trying to make ends meet. Let’s keep on praying and writing our Senators and Congressmen, and try to get the much need help we so deserve. God bless each and everyone of you!

  4. Let’s see now — 0% interest on savings ; no increase in social security; higher interest rates on credit cards; no jobs to be found– while they bail out Wall Street and big banks. If someone had told me this would happen a few years ago, I would have said no, it can’t happen. There will be uprising. Yet all I hear is a whimper. Seniors have become dispensable to this administration. They said it during the campaign — “We don’t need their votes; we’ve got the new creative class” Donna Brazille on CNN. May, 2008.

If all the politicians that are supposed to be working for us, would not take their raises (more than we get the whole year.) They could actually raise our ss checks. It seems unfair that they are working for us and we can hardly pay our bills and get the medicine we need to stay alive
When they retire, they even get free medical. They should have to pay like everyone else..
They should get exactly what the normal person gets in ss checks , when they retire and they would surely raise it so we could be at least above the poverty level.
We give so much to other countries, money and medicine and none for us. Not fair. In my next life I will run for a government job and live high like all you in Washington. With no worries.

  6. Will we get a $250 stimulus check in 2010?? Probably not, because all of the federal workers and union members got OUR!! money first. The banks and big government companies supporting the ‘Boy Wonder’ also had their hands in there as well. So what should we do?? Why not make it a point to go to the polls
and vote all the people who are responsible for all of this out of office. Vote, tell all your friends to vote, and vote anti-democrat. Maybe we can all get together and take our country back.

  7. It would be interesting to know if the suicide rate of seniors and individuals living on social security disability has risen in the last several years. My best guess is that it probably has. I am a single mother of two teenage children, now dependent on social security disability as my only means of income. God knows if I could, I would work. I entered the work force as a sophomore in high school, worked two jobs my senior year in high school AND attended a vocational school in the evenings, so that I could begin full-time employment the week following graduation. I then worked both a full time job and a part time job simultaneously, so I could support myself AND afford the cost of the college education I was obtaining. Now, I find myself, after 30 years of enjoying the privilege of practicing Nursing, wondering if I will be able to afford to be alive two years from now. I was forced to utilize my entire life savings and retirement when I became ill, and was unable to work. As medical bills increased each month, I saw how quickly a person can become penniless. And now, each month, I not only am unable to see any hope of fulfilling a single “retirement dream” that I once worked so diligently to secure, but additionally I am unable to see any means of securing food, clothing, shelter and medical care for myself within the next couple of years. I wonder if others, who perhaps don’t have children to “live for” or a home almost paid off (as mine is), might find themselves in a state of deep, deep despair-just toss in the towel-and give up the ghost.

SSD is the only income my wife an d I have. We are both disabled. This $250 would help us tremendously. We can just barely keep our bills paid. Everything is going up in price, its getting very hard to buy food. A raise in our checks would have been nice. We cant afford to buy clothes or shoes. We have and old car that is always needing something and we cant afford to get it. we need our car to get to the market. Why doesnt the government do more for seniors and disabled? We need help.

  9. by ends i mean that obama will get his stimulus plan passed

  10. Dear Obama president of the U.S.,
I only have a few words for you your season has just begun and I see that you are clever but for every season there is an ending the change will becoming shortly.
$250 is but a pebble in the ocean soon we will be a cashless society and you will be where you need to be and the U.S. will open eyes that have been closed for far too
long and realize they have been backing the wrong horse and than it will be too late for them as you know full well. I am saddened by what the children of this great nation are more concerned with but i knew this was what had to happen for me to wake up and so you better hurry and get your agenda going you know how this ends.

with love from your brother oh yes father say’s Hi.

  11. Well are we going to get the 250.00 check or not? We seem to have plenty of money to send to Hatti with their crooked government how much do the people really see.And that country is loaded with aids because they do not practice safe sex.Why are we always the only country to bail these countries out?We have kids in America that go to ned hungry every night. We have homeless Americans in every major city.Seniors put Obama into office and can take him out in 2012 just as easy. They are the largest voteing block in America.I have voted in every election since LBJ in 1964.I am very unhappy with Obama now as he never said the word Senior in his big speech the other night. He cares more about other countries and seems to have put us and America on the back burner.I see where Congress got their raise.AARP is in Washington fighting for us,so Im told.I wonder.Seniors on a fixed income need that money, now.

  12. I received a responce from the Wall Street Journal from a reporter that i emailed and she said that it looks like we will get the $250.00 for 2010.
I personally would feel a lot better if Obama gave us an update on what is going on with the money and when we might get it.
Obama seems more concerned with fast trains and the Middle class and giving tax cuts. But how about the people that do not file taxes and are on social security and social security disability.Face it if you are working you can get money back from taxes and if you need more money you can go for a promotion,or better paying job,or overtime. But when you are on a fixed income that is it there is no more money. When you get your monthly check from social security thats it for the month.so we need that $250.00!!!!!!!

  13. I think all the people in the government should have to take a cut in their pay.We didn’t get our raise on SS and SSI.It’s hard living off $900 a mo,While the people who say they are working for us.Sure trying to put us in a grave from lack of our medicine or food.Look at all the money going to help the people in the earth quake..It si so sad it happen but we have people here that don’t know where their next meal or meds will come from.Or go to a DR and be turned down because you are on medicaid and can’t pay. To be put in a room at the ER and someone else that has good medical insurance get the treatments they need.I’ve been there and done that. Why don’t all the people in the great white house have to live on the same insurance we have to live on.I’m sure they don’t pay for it or their family has too,It’s a part of being in the office having the best there is in life.
There was money released last April in our town to help people on low income to have work done on their homes.I qualified for it all but didn’t get the first penny of help. Now Mr and Mrs people in the big white house where is the money?? It wasn’t used in our town im sure because our whole town is in a flood zone and that way why I couldn’t be helped.can you tell me where the money went?? my roof leaks and and can’t help that my husband and I are disabled. THINKING ABOUT NEVER VOTING AGAIN IN Arkansas.

i am a senior and i also hope that we get the 250 i read on one of the other web sites that said the seniors dont need the check well we have to pay for medicare just like people that work have to pay for insurance our costs are just as high as yours we have to pay the same amount for gro elec and gas like people wth kids we raised five children and have 14 grandchildren when our children were growing up we didnt have the tax breaks like they do now i dont be grudge them but they get up to four thousand back each year because of tax cuts we didnt get that they also have a lot of help that we didnt when we raised our kids why do some hate to see us get that 250 we never have on our taxes ever got much back over the years its hard for seniors just like it is for everyone else so dont be grudge us of 250 even if we get it thanks

  15. Patricia Houston on January 25, 2010 at 9:43 pm

Isincerly hope and pray that we will receive the $250.00, rebate seeing how we didn’t get our cost of living increase this year. That really sucks. We the little people need help, the cost to heat your home, food, clothes and let’s not even the cost of rent or mortage,it’s inbelieveable especially for the poor man.We sincerly need help, some of us have to also pay for medicationsand it hard to decide sometimes whether or to pay for meds or but food.We are suffering while the Congress and the Senate holds our future in the palms pf their hand. We desreve a little help to.After all some of us and our monies help tp bail out the banks when they were in trouble. Help us please

  16. I sure hope we get the $250.00 also! I just got a letter in the mail today saying that my SSP was going from $27.40 to $22.10! I know it is only a few dollars less but it sure helped me. I am on a lot of meds., plus Insulin an diabetic meds, an thank goodness for priscription part B&D cause I would not be here right now! They say there was no cost of living raise, well look at the food, gas an etc.If I would go an move in with my family ,just to survive I am afraid I would lose my medical an foodstamps!!! So that is out of the question! So Please Obama helps us to recieve the $ 250.00 every year, some don’t understand how that really helps us! Thank you

  17. I know alot of people who are going to be upset if this $250 stimulus check does not go through. My husband and I will not be getting an increase in our sosical security check as like everyone else and he will not get an increase in his retirement benefits. However, our electricity bill goes up, our health insurance will go up and as everything else that it takes to live on this earth. What a shame that we can send billions of dollars to foreign countries to rebuild their country, but our own people have to suffer. NOthing makes sense anymore. Some people can’t even afford to pay for their burial expenses..which is a racket to me. Over charged funeral home expenses. Makes you just want to throw up and give up!!! Please believe me that you in congress and our senators will pay in hell for all that you have not done!! Keep spending all that money that you get and all the benefits and increases!! We will not weep at your grave!!

  18. i think we should all know when we will receive the stimulus for 2010. I think we should take care of our people because then we could help other worlds, but we are n ot even breaking even, we are next to be the poorest country in theworld (my opinoion ) Wake up Obama

i dont know what kind of people we have down in dc but new york needs watching too the govt. isnt watching them because they are to busy running their own numbers my god what a mess whos gonna watch the govt they are running this country into the ground the people of the united states needs to take back what was rightfully ours a govt for the people by the people not some crooks people have been killed in the uncountable numbers over a period of 240 years and what have we got crooks that are leaading us to the brink of disaster god have mercy on our souls for letting them do that and not watching them

  21. Be so kind to let me know as to weather those on Social Security Disiability will recieve a Stimuilus check $250.00 for 2010. We all know that the cost of living has risen in the cost of food, clothing, heat, gas, etc. Although we never received a cost of living raise this year as in previous years. And even that small amount was taken away by the cost rise in Medicare Prescripte plans. Which in most case Co-pays for meds and plans discontinue the meds most people had to take. so that was a no wind. Out of all the waisted Stimulus given to all big companies, they still succeeded in failing and closing there business, And if you have not the jobs, you have no access to loans for the needs of lives. How do we help our fellow man if those we elected fail to caluclate the real money crisis in United States. We need to all stand together in a positive way and old school knowledge to help ourselves as well as the future generation of our children, so they can reach there goals when we are no longer around. We have a great Country, It needs homefront attention. God Bless

  22. Iam a 100% disabled Vietnam Veteran and could use the $250,but I dont need to hear some Moron Teabagger using it as a way to push thier death panel scare,The VA takes good care of me. And during the Bush years the VA gave me counseling on a living will and its not any more of a death panel now then it was when I was counseled and Iam still alive so please Teabagger crawl back under your Rock along with Palin and the rest of you fear mongers

  23. It’s wonderful to know the increase Congress voted for themselves. They need it so much more than we do. Look at all the time they’ve donated to reading all 2000 plus pages of that long-awaited Obamacare deathcare bill. Rest assured and enjoy your money this year because I and all the other Tea Party members will vote out EVERY incumbent.

  24. Since the announcement of no COLA for 2010 for senior citizens..the following has occured in our lives..the telephone bill rose 20%..utilities ..although yet to be determined because of the extreme cold will be about 15%..basic TV …up 10%..visiting family doctor ..copay..up 25% and specialist visits 100% increase..Yet..supposedly there is no rise in inflation…What type of budget is expected to meet these increase…sad, very sad.

I think married couples should not be penalized for being married. If you qualify for social security and SSI, you should get both. Why should my husbands SS check be cut because of my SS check? All of this has caused many happily married couples to divorce and live separately. Now tell me, does this make any sense to you? Obama, please do something about this injustice!

  26. seniors need food stamps even if their house is payed for 10 to 50 month is not enough when you owe these big utility bills and now they are going up help in ok

  27. Hope Duchaine on January 5, 2010 at 12:08 am

I sure hope that we get the $250 stimulus check soon because we all could use the extra money. I only get SSDI and SSI and can hardly keep afloat. When I was approved for SSI and SSDI it was late 2007. I have only seen one(1) increase since then. My friends take in $600 or $700 per month in benefits and I only take in approximately $500 or so per month in benefits. I wish that President O’Bama would take better care of his citizens first and then take care of the rest of the world later.
We didn’t cause the economy to fail our government did and we shouldn’t have to suffer monetarily.

  28. carol Noonen on January 4, 2010 at 10:29 am

receiving the 250.00 stimulas check will sure help a lot of seniors to a degree. But most seniors had to resort to credit cards in order to survive. Wouldn!t it be nice if Obama would make the banks lower their finance rate to a lower percent so people could pay off their cards thus opening up the economy. No money now to help economy.

  29. I was so disappointed that us folks on Social Security didn’t get any increase for the coming year. I’m spending more money every year for living expenses, and this year I will get $2.60 LESS than the previous year for my social security check. I certainly hope the stimulus comes through by the end of March 2010. I had to give up a job in infant childcare a year and a half ago due to developing painful tendonitis in my left shoulder. Since then I’ve been searching for a part-time job with no results, and if I don’t find something soon, I will have to file for bankruptcy.

  30. is that the same check that ssd or ssi people will receive. im asking because my parents would need the money for this. Do they get each a 250$ ssi check or it is one check per family. while 250$ is great it does even pay rent for a month. Disable people and senior also have money needs and sometime they have bigger needs then average people because of their condition and the unemployment resulting from it. Please let us know when we will be receiving our 250$ stimulus check for senior or disable ?

Got something to say?
