Senior Stimulus Check in 2010

January 6, 2010

The Stimulus Check is when the previous president of the United States sent out checks to all citizens of the United States in the hope of easing the effect the economic downturn had on the citizens and their households.

In 2009, President Obama passed the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 which enabled several stimulus checks to boost the economy. In 2009 the stimulus check was given to United States citizens as social security benefits, military pensioners and railroad pensioners. A one time payment $ 250 was given. Senior citizens are eligible as well. Citizens who are employed were also eligible for the stimulus check in 2009 and it is very likely that they will qualify for the SSI 2010 stimulus check as well. Those who are employed are also given a tax rebate on their salaries, which gives them spending power.

The 2010 stimulus plan will be the same as the stimulus plan that was in place in 2009. Senior citizens, those living on social security benefits and pensioners are hopeful that they will get their check on a weekly basis, but recent reports indicate that President Obama has announced that a one-time $250 stimulus check will be made in 2010 to recipients of Social Security. However it’s up to Congress to approve this bill. Senior citizens in the country are really worried about not getting the stimulus check for 2010.

Who is really eligible for the stimulus 2010? – Those depending on Social Security payments, Pensioners, unemployed citizens, veterans and the disabled.

By what date in 2010 can senior citizens expect the check? – It is not known which day or month the check will be sent but rumor has it that the check will be finalized and will go out before the end of March 2010. According to officials at the white house, the costs of all the stimulus checks are to top $ 13 – $14 billion for 2010 as well.

However, even though there are reports that confirm that senior citizens are eligible for the 2010 check as well, President Obama has to justify to the lawmakers that this is going to help the economy

It said that the 2010 plan would follow the economic recovery checks sent out during the spring of 2009 to senior citizens, disabled workers and some veterans as part of the broader stimulus package. Those veterans who qualify would include those who are currently on disability compensation, dependency compensation, and pension payouts and veterans who are receiving social security benefits are also eligible for the $250 check.

The senior stimulus check for 2010 is eligible only to citizens of the United States, Puerto Rico and Guam.

The check is aimed at helping those senior citizens and veterans who are being hit the most by the recession. These senior citizens and veterans should be allowed to enjoy their retirement benefits, but sadly that has not been the case since the economic downturn.

However, government officials are keeping a tight lip when veterans query on when they will actually receive the checks

i don’t know how old you are and don’t really care. i am 46 and not drawing any ss but my mother does and other family members because they are NOT able to work and need the money. they have regular bills like everyone else plus more and expensive medicines to buy.
write this saying down and keep it in your wallet “You don’t need that $250. Budget your money, and stop playing bingo. That is all I need to say.” when you get ready to retire or become disabled get it back out of your wallet and read it then shut up.

  6. Shame on you people. What is wrong with you? Look at your check on payday and see how much money is taken out for your ss and then hope like hell you live long enough to receive it.People you need to be glad for the people that get it and hope ss is still around when you retire.

Ok so no 250.– and no cost of living but did congree get a big pay reduction i worked all my life and hard like most of you all and got sick 5 years agao and cant work. I dont get food stamps or assitance so this would have really helped.

    What next

  17. Nina from Feb. 11, 2010 I hope you read this. I really feel sorry for you. You have so much to learn, about life, about people, and especially about empathy and compassion for others. You are making assumptions and you haven’t a clue what you’re talking about. The senior citizens ARE entitled to the stimulus payment since they will not get their cost of living raise for 2 years. Why? Simply because they have worked and paid into SS and it is theirs to have and they do deserve it.
I don’t know where your anger is coming from or your attitude toward the elderly but as many have already said, you WILL one day get old and you WILL one day be unable to do the things you once did. Some are disabled sooner than others and we all DO have a right to live, not just survive. If the US has money to send millions to other countries and to finance large projects such as the space program, which I understand they’re going to squelch now, then they should help their own. We are your mothers and your fathers. We are your aunts and your uncles, your brothers and your sisters. We not only deserve the money that we have put into SS but we deserve respect because WE are what has helped this country for years while we were able.
Yes, Nina your day will come and I do hope, with all my heart that someone will have more compassion for you than you are having toward the elderly. Maybe you are just having a bad day, maybe. I hope that’s the case. I would not want to see you go through what we go through. I wouldn’t wish that on my worst enemy. Visit a few nursing homes. Stay awhile and give a helping hand. You might see things a little differently.
Hang in there senior citizens. We had to have been strong to make it thus far and we will make it, in survival mode, but we will make it. There will come a day, believe me. “Every dog will have it’s day.” My best to all of you fellow seniors.

    Nina

You need to get educated about what SSI is! We had to go to a Doctor – be diagnosed UNABLE to work – then a board of DOCTORS looks it over and you must go before a bard for a hearing most often….. then if the MEDICAL evidence backs up the DOCTORS statement – you can go on SSI. Those folks you mentioned are on Social Security which is different. On SSA you can work and keep your medical care and cash. On SSI – you would not get it unless you are UNABLE to work anywhere!!!!

Please get educated on these difference and you won’t look so retarded when you speak in public!

listen we need the stimulus check its very hard living on 565 a monthi cant aFORD TO GO TO BINGO LOL SO THE ONES WHO DONT HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT GETTING BY SHOULD WALK A DAY IN OUR SHOES AND IM GLAD IDIDNT VOTE THIS YEAR ITS JUST A BIG JOKE COME OM PEOPLE WAKE UP AND TELL CONGRESS TO GO TO HELL THEY CANT DO ANYTHING RIGHT TO BEGIN WITH

  20. To the lady that has less than $1103 a month income (higher in states that have Q1 programs) and pays the part B medicare premium each month. Please check with your state’s medicaid program. Most States have programs called SMB and SLMB and Q1. The paperwork is fairly simple and if you are eligible medicaid pays for your part B medicare premiums (that $110 or $96.40 each month out of your social security check). Of those on medicare I have assisted with completing the paperwork, I haven’t had anyone denied if they met the income guidelines.

  21. You lazy people get a job and quit kissing Obama’s but.You wanted the stupid bastard as president now live with it

  22. girltropical on May 28, 2010 at 8:16 pm

so this was a huge LIE. i am on ssdi, got a $250 check in 2009, and here this article says i will get same in 2010. but guess wHAT….. in 2010 it is only for people who pay for medicine, what then hell does this have to do with a social security raise that we did not get, and will not get this year? the president is a LIAR.
i am getting zero. i live on $900 a month, am alone, ill and no family. no raise, but my costs increased. i have a no frills life, and WHERE IS MY SS RAISE OR A STIMULUS CHECK????????????????????????????????

  23. sara a mann on May 25, 2010 at 11:09 am

I have always paid my bills and taxes on time. I am receivng Survivor benefits from my exhusband who was a postal worker. I am UNable to get POSTAL RETIREMENT; (why) they changed the law before I even applied; my own SS benefits would NOT be enough for me to have a pot to spit in. I’ve worked since I’m 13; but many times as an independent contractor, NANNY or something that would not pay enough to live on. As it is, the prices go up; my food allotment goes down; and the housing also goes up. After nearly dying of the heat last year; I planned to use some of that check for an AIR CONDITIONER to be able to live healthily thru the summer. I have not heard ANYthing since my taxes were done (there aren’t any) no additional income- very difficult to get a job when I tried for over 3 years; BEFORE I WAS 60 and working in FEDERAL JOB (SENIOR PLACEMENT offices for 3 1/2 years. I took early retirement so I could have an almost liveable income. SInce then things have goneup; but the SS has stayed the some… THIS YEAR has been most difficult. NO insurance; and food prices going up; with food card going down and nothing but a pat statement of; “we put the data in the computer and it tells you what your SUPPLEMENTAL FOOD ALLOWANCE IS.”…No empathy, no compassion, no expression whatsoever from caseworker; who, dosen’t ever have to see you; just updates the info. on a computer…Very easy for them…difficult for us. WHAT’s the SCOOP. Us seniors and disabled are NOT NAMELESS beings; we have a right to the basic needs of life. AMPLE FOOD CLOTHING AND SHELTER…THAT”S just OUR HUMAN RIGHT…and the gov’t is trying to CONTROL even our intake of food, the warmth or coolness in our homes and our inability to care for ourselves and our loved ones with a medical care which is only big business now. At least let usknow when and if we get the STIMULUS CHECK and when!!!

  24. Sounds like a lot of younger people do not understand Social Security. Let me help you, get a recent paycheck stub. Notice that the government takes out taxes,
social security, medicare, and medicaide. This is your payment toward your future
retirement, and Social Security retirement. You can exclude the payment for medicaide, that is your portion that is paid into the free government health care for those that live free, and unemployed their entire lives.

SSI is actually Suplemental Security Income. It is given to people that don’t work, and haven’t paid into Social Security. Some of these people are actually disabled.
The rest are homeless, drug addicts, and any other qualified excuse they can use to get a free ride.

Young people do NOT count on Social Security!!! For years we worked and paid into them…and the government has robbed us blind. They took our savings and spent it. Now they want us to get less than what we should receive..why aren’t they being punished???

You guys be smart and start an IRA with your bank. Secure your own future retirement …if you don’t the government will steal your money too…

  25. Its amazing….Congress has NO PROBLEM giving themselves a raise but they have trouble with the idea of money for the seniors, poor, veterans.

  26. The more a person makes on disablity the more benefits the person loses. I just lost $17 of food stamps for making an extra $10 per month! I work but I can only work part time. If I made up to the allowable $950 per month I would lose many benefits.
Here is what I would lose:
    SSI – $50
QMB program that pay my medicare premium of $120 plus $30 for part D.
    Food stamps- $200
then I would have a spenddown on medicaid of about $300.
    so that is $650
I already make about $200 additional per month.
So if worked enought to make $950 extra it would only amount to $100 extra. It is not worth working 30 hours a week when my disablity is worsened by stress.
I think people should never judge people on disablity unless they have lived on it themselves!

  27. listen to me people are sick . i work 60 hours a week plus take care of my dad so go to a rest home .it is 85 now .

  28. listen to me people are sick . i work 60 hours a week plus take care of my dad so go to a rest home .it is 85 now

  29. Obama should be ashamed…first president in history to allow seniors to suffer a no increase to their meager ss income…even Nixon didnt allow that. A good president would never have allowed that and I hope it causes him the senior vote in any future voting campaign he tries for. For petes sake all government slugs get their top salary in regirement plans for the rest of their lives….thats our money you pigs.

  30. Do you believe Wall Street and 3 Big 3 auto makers deserve billions, if not trillions of tax dollars to pay for their mistakes.
Do you believe we should be paying trillions for 2 wars that have lasted 9 years?
Do you believe The U.S. A. should send all manufacturing jobs off-shore?
Do you believe in lobbyists running your goverment?

Got something to say?
